Génesis 3
1La serpiente, que era el más astuto de todos los animales del campo que Yahvé Dios había hecho, dijo a la mujer: “¿Cómo es que Dios ha mandado “No comáis de ningún árbol del jardín”?” However, the serpent was more crafty than any of the creatures of the earth that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Why has God instructed you, that you should not eat from every tree of Paradise?”2Respondió la mujer a la Serpiente: “Podemos comer del fruto de los árboles del jardín; The woman responded to him: “From the fruit of the trees which are in Paradise, we eat.3mas del fruto del árbol que está en medio del jardín, ha dicho Dios: “No comáis de él, ni lo toquéis, no sea que muráis”. Yet truly, from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of Paradise, God has instructed us that we should not eat, and that we should not touch it, lest perhaps we may die.”4Replicó la serpiente a la mujer: “De ninguna manera moriréis; Then the serpent said to the woman: “By no means will you die a death.5pues bien sabe Dios que el día en que comiereis de él, se os abrirán los ojos y seréis como Dios, conocedores del bien y del mal”. For God knows that, on whatever day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened; and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.”6Y como viese la mujer que el árbol era bueno para comida y una delicia para los ojos, y que el árbol era apetecible para alcanzar sabiduría, tomó de su fruto y comió y dio también a su marido (que estaba) con ella, y él comió también. And so the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and beautiful to the eyes, and delightful to consider. And she took from its fruit, and she ate. And she gave to her husband, who ate.7Efectivamente se les abrieron a entrambos los ojos, y se dieron cuenta de que estaba desnudos; por lo cual cosieron hojas de higuera y se hicieron delantales. And the eyes of them both were opened. And when they realized themselves to be naked, they joined together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves.8Cuando oyeron el rumor de Yahvé Dios que se paseaba en el jardín al tiempo de la brisa del día, Adán y su mujer se ocultaron de la vista de Yahvé Dios por entre los árboles del jardín. And when they had heard the voice of the Lord God taking a walk in Paradise in the afternoon breeze, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of Paradise.9Yahvé Dios llamó a Adán y le dijo: “¿Dónde estás?” And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: “Where are you?”10Este contestó: “Oí tu paso por el jardín y tuve miedo, porque estoy desnudo; por eso me escondí”. And he said, “I heard your voice in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and so I hid myself.”11Mas Él dijo: “¿Quién te ha dicho que estás desnudo? ¿Has comido acaso del árbol del cual te prohibí comer?” He said to him, “Then who told you that you were naked, if you have not eaten of the tree from which I instructed you that you should not eat?”12Respondió Adán: “La mujer que me diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y comí.” And Adam said, “The woman, whom you gave to me as a companion, gave to me from the tree, and I ate.”13Dijo luego Yahvé Dios a la mujer: “¿Qué es lo que has hecho?” Y contestó la mujer: “La serpiente me engañó, y comí.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “Why have you done this?” And she responded, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”14Entonces dijo Yahvé Dios a la serpiente: “Por haber hecho esto, serás maldita como ninguna otra bestia doméstica o salvaje. Sobre tu vientre caminarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida. And the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed among all living things, even the wild beasts of the earth. Upon your breast shall you travel, and the ground shall you eat, all the days of your life.15Y pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu linaje y su linaje: este te aplastará la cabeza, y tú le aplastarás el calcañar.” I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. She will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel.”16Después dijo a la mujer: “Multiplicaré tus dolores y tus preñeces; con dolor darás hijos a luz; te sentirás atraída por tu marido, pero él te dominará.” To the woman, he also said: “I will multiply your labors and your conceptions. In pain shall you give birth to sons, and you shall be under your husband’s power, and he shall have dominion over you.”17A Adán le dijo: “Por haber escuchado la voz de tu mujer y comido del árbol del que Yo te había prohibido comer, será maldita la tierra por tu causa; con doloroso trabajo te alimentarás de ella todos los días de tu vida; Yet truly, to Adam, he said: “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, from which I instructed you that you should not eat, cursed is the land that you work. In hardship shall you eat from it, all the days of your life.18te producirá espinas y abrojos, y comerás de las hierbas del campo. Thorns and thistles shall it produce for you, and you shall eat the plants of the earth.19Con el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan, hasta que vuelvas a la tierra; pues de ella fuiste tomado. Polvo eres y al polvo volverás.” By the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, until you return to the earth from which you were taken. For dust you are, and unto dust you shall return.”20Adán puso a su mujer el nombre de Eva, por ser ella la madre de todos los vivientes. And Adam called the name of his wife, ‘Eve,’ because she was the mother of all the living.21E hizo Yahvé Dios para Adán y su mujer túnicas de pieles y los vistió. The Lord God also made for Adam and his wife garments from skins, and he clothed them.22Y dijo Yahvé Dios: “He aquí que el hombre ha venido a ser como uno de nosotros, conocedor del bien y del mal; ahora, pues, no vaya a extender su mano para que tome todavía del árbol de la vida, y comiendo (de él) viva para siempre.” And he said: “Behold, Adam has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Therefore, now perhaps he may put forth his hand and also take from the tree of life, and eat, and live in eternity.”23Después Yahvé Dios lo expulsó del jardín de Edén, para que labrase la tierra de donde había sido tomado. And so the Lord God sent him away from the Paradise of enjoyment, in order to work the earth from which he was taken.24Y habiendo expulsado a Adán puso delante del jardín de Edén querubines, y la fulgurante espada que se agitaba, a fin de guardar el camino del árbol de la vida. And he cast out Adam. And in front of the Paradise of enjoyment, he placed the Cherubim with a flaming sword, turning together, to guard the way to the tree of life.
