Habacuc 1
1Carga que vio Habacuc profeta. The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.2¿Hasta cuándo, Yahvé, he de clamar sin que Tú me escuches? ¿Hasta cuándo daré voces a Ti por la violencia sin que me salves? How long, O Lord, shall I cry out, and you will not heed? Shall I shout to you while suffering violence, and you will not save?3¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad y contemplas lo que sufro? Devastación y violencia están ante mis ojos; hay pleitos y surgen contiendas. Why have you revealed to me iniquity and hardship, to see plunder and injustice opposite me? And there has been judgment, but the opposition is more powerful.4Por eso se embota la ley, y nunca sale sentencia justa; el inicuo rodea al justo, y así sale torcido el derecho. Because of this, the law has been torn apart, and judgment does not persevere to its conclusion. For the impious prevail against the just. Because of this, a perverse judgment is issued.5Mirad a las naciones y observad; admiraos y llenaos de espanto; pues voy a hacer una obra en vuestros días, que no creeríais si alguien la contase. Gaze among the nations, and see. Admire, and be astounded. For a work has been done in your days, which no one will believe when it is told.6Pues he aquí que suscitaré a los caldeos, ese pueblo cruel e impetuoso que recorre las anchuras de la tierra, para ocupar moradas que no son suyas. For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift people, marching across the width of the earth, to possess tabernacles not their own.7Es horrible y espantoso, y crea él mismo su derecho y su grandeza. It is dreadful and terrible. From themselves, judgment and their burden will issue.8Sus caballos son más ligeros que el leopardo y más feroces que el lobo nocturno. Their horses are more nimble than leopards and swifter than wolves in the evening; their horsemen will spread out. And then their horsemen will approach from far away; they will fly like the eagle, hurrying to devour.9Vienen todos ellos para hacer violencia; viento abrasador va delante de ellos; toman cautivos tan numerosos como la arena. They will all approach towards the prey; their face is like a burning wind. And they will gather captives together like sand.10(Es un pueblo) que se burla de los reyes, y se ríe de los príncipes; se mofa de todas las fortalezas, alza terraplenes y las toma. And concerning kings, he will triumph, and sovereign rulers will be his laughingstock, and he will laugh over every fortress, and he will transport a rampart and seize it.11Luego, como el huracán, cambia de rumbo y pasa, y se acarrea culpa (imputando) su fuerza a su dios. Then his spirit will be altered, and he will cross over and fall. Such is his strength from his god.12¿No eres Tú, oh Yahvé, desde la eternidad, el Dios mío, mi Santo? No moriremos, porque Tú, Yahvé, hiciste (aquel pueblo) para ejercer tu justicia; Tú, oh Roca, le has establecido para aplicar castigos. Have you not existed from the beginning, Lord my God, my holy one, and so we shall not die? Lord, you have stationed him for judgment, and you have established that his strength will be swept away.13Tus ojos son demasiado puros para mirar el mal, y no puedes ver la injusticia. ¿Por qué, pues, soportas a los pérfidos y callas cuando el inicuo devora al que es más justo que él? Your eyes are pure, you do not behold evil, and you cannot look towards iniquity. Why do you look upon the agents of iniquity, and remain silent, while the impious is devouring one who is more just than himself?14¿Por qué hiciste a los hombres como los peces del mar, como los reptiles que no tienen quien los gobierne? And you will make men like the fish of the sea and like the creeping things that have no ruler.15A todos ellos los pesca aquel con el anzuelo; los arrastra con su red, y los reúne en su barredera; por eso se goza y está alegre. He lifted up everything with his hook. He drew them in with his dragnet, and gathered them into his netting. Over this, he will rejoice and exult.16Y por eso ofrece sacrificios a su red, e incienso a su barredera; pues gracias a ellos es pingüe su porción, y suculenta su comida. For this reason, he will offer victims to his dragnet, and he will sacrifice to his netting. For through them, his portion has been made fat, and his meals elite.17¿Es posible que siga vaciando su red, y continúe destrozando sin piedad a los pueblos? Because of this, therefore, he expands his dragnet and will not be lenient in continually putting to death the peoples.
