Habacuc 2

¹Estaré en pie sobre mi atalaya, me apostaré sobre la muralla, y quedaré observando para ver que me dirá (Yahvé), y qué responderá a mi querella. I will stand firm during my watch, and fix my position over the fortification. And I will observe carefully, to see what might be said to me and what I might respond to my opponent.²Y Yahvé me respondió, y dijo: “Escribe la visión, gravándola en tablillas, para que se pueda leer corrientemente. And the Lord responded to me and said: Write the vision and explain it on tablets, so that he who reads it may run through it.³Porque la visión tardará en cumplirse hasta el tiempo fijado, llegará a su fin y no fallará; si tarda, espérala. Vendrá con toda seguridad, sin falta alguna. For as yet the vision is far off, and it will appear in the end, and it will not lie. If it expresses any delay, wait for it. For it is arriving and it will arrive, and it will not be hindered.⁴He aquí al soberbio, que en su interior no tiene alma recta; mas el justo por su fe vivirá.” Behold, he who is unbelieving, his soul will not be right within himself; but he who is just shall live in his faith.⁵Así como el vino es engañoso, así tampoco permanece el hombre orgulloso; se ensancha como el infierno su apetito, y es insaciable como la muerte; junta consigo todas las naciones, y reúne bajo su dominio todos los pueblos. And in the manner that wine deceives the heavy drinker, so will the arrogant man be deceived, and he will not be honored. He has enlarged his life like hellfire, and himself like death, and he is never fulfilled. And he will gather to himself all nations, and he will amass for himself all peoples.⁶¿No le tomarán todos estos como objeto de sus fábulas, sátiras y refranes? ¿Acaso no dirán: “Ay de aquel que amontona lo que no es suyo”? ¿Hasta cuándo carga sobre sí las prendas(robadas)? Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and an enigmatic utterance about him? And it will be said, “Woe to him who increases what is not his own.” How long, then, will he lay down dense clay against himself?⁷¿No se alzarán improvisamente los que te han de morder? ¿No se despertarán los que te han de sacudir, y serás presa de ellos? Shall they not suddenly rise up, who would bite you, and be stirred up, who would tear you, so that you will be a prey for them?⁸Por cuanto tú despojaste a muchas naciones, todo el resto de los pueblos te despojará a ti, por los homicidios y por las violencias que cometiste contra la tierra, contra la ciudad y sus habitantes. Because you have despoiled many peoples, all those who are left of the people shall despoil you, because of the blood of men, and the iniquity of the earth, of the city and all who dwell therein.⁹¡Ay de aquel que para su casa amontona ganancias injustas a fin de poner muy alto su nido, y salvarse del poder del mal! Woe to him who gathers together an evil greed for his house, so that his nest may be exalted, and thinking that he might free himself from the hand of evil.¹⁰Has ido trazando la deshonra de tu propia casa; destruyendo a muchos pueblos contra ti mismo pecaste. You have devised confusion for your house, you have cut to pieces many peoples, and your soul has sinned.¹¹Porque desde el muro clama (contra ti) la piedra, y desde el maderaje le responde la viga. For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the wood that is between the joints of the building will respond.¹²¡Ay de aquel que edifica una ciudad con sangre y cimienta una población sobre iniquidad. Woe to him who builds a town with blood and prepares a city by iniquity.¹³¿No viene esto de Yahvé de los ejércitos: que los pueblos trabajen para el fuego, y las gentes se fatiguen en vano? Are not these things before the Lord of hosts? For the people will labor amid a great fire, and the nations will labor in emptiness, and they will fail.¹⁴Mas (un día) la tierra se llenará del conocimiento de la gloria de Yahvé, como las aguas llenan el mar. For the earth shall be filled, that they might know the glory of the Lord, like the waters spreading over the sea.¹⁵¡Ay de aquel que da de beber a su prójimo, vertiendo su saña hasta embriagarlo para contemplar su desnudez! Woe to anyone who gives a drink to a friend, releasing a drug and inebriating, so as to look upon their nakedness.¹⁶Te saciaste de vergüenza en vez de gloria. ¡Bebe, pues, también tú, y muestra tu incircuncisión; a ti se te dará el cáliz de la diestra de Yahvé, e ignominia cubrirá tu gloria. You are filled with disgrace in place of glory. So then, drink and fall fast asleep, for the cup of the right hand of the Lord will surround you, and a disgraceful vomit will cover your glory.¹⁷Porque recaerá sobre ti la violencia hecha al Líbano, y el destrozo de sus animales te aterrará, así como también la sangre humana (que derramaste), y la violencia, que cometiste contra la tierra, contra la ciudad y todos sus habitantes. For the iniquity of Lebanon will cover you, and the devastation of animals which will deter them from the blood of men, and the iniquity of the earth and the city, and of all who dwell therein.¹⁸¿De qué sirve a la estatua el que la haya tallado su autor? ¿a la imagen fundida y al oráculo de mentiras, el que confíe en él el artista que hace ídolos mudos? Of what benefit is the graven image? For its maker has formed it, a molten and imaginary deception. For its maker has hoped in a figment of his own creation, so as to make a dumb likeness.¹⁹¡Ay del que dice al leño: “¡Despierta!”; y a una piedra muda: “¡Levántate!” ¿Acaso estos pueden ser sus maestros? Aunque estén cubiertos de oro y de plata, en su interior no hay espíritu alguno. Woe to him who says to wood, “Awaken,” to the silent stone, “Arise.” Is it able to teach? Behold, it has been entirely covered with gold and silver; and there is no spirit at all in its inner workings.²⁰Mas Yahvé está en su santo Templo. ¡Calla delante de Él la tierra entera! But the Lord is in his holy temple. May all the earth be silent before his face.
