Isaías 1

¹Visión que Isaías, hijo de Amós, tuvo acerca de Judá y Jerusalén en los días de Ocías, Joatán, Acaz y Ezequías, reyes de Judá. The vision of Isaiah, the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Joatham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.²Oíd, cielos, y tú, tierra, escucha; porque habla Yahvé: “He criado hijos y los he engrandecido, mas ellos se han rebelado contra Mí. Listen, O heavens, and pay attention, O earth, for the Lord has spoken. I have nurtured and raised children, but they have spurned me.³El buey conoce al que lo posee, y el asno el pesebre de su amo; pero Israel no (me) conoce; mi pueblo no tiene inteligencia.” An ox knows his owner, and a donkey knows the manger of his lord, but Israel has not known me, and my people have not understood.⁴¡Ay de ti, nación pecadora, pueblo cargado de culpa, raza de malvados, hijos corrompidos! Han abandonado a Yahvé, han despreciado al Santo de Israel, se han vuelto atrás. Woe to a sinful nation, a people burdened by iniquity, a wicked offspring, accursed children. They have abandoned the Lord. They have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel. They been taken away backwards.⁵¿De qué sirve daros golpes, si seguís rebelándoos? La cabeza toda está enferma, y todo el corazón doliente. For what reason shall I continue to strike you, as you increase transgressions? The entire head is feeble, and the entire heart is grieving.⁶Desde la planta del pie hasta la cabeza, no queda en él nada sano; hay solo heridas, contusiones y llagas inflamadas, que no han sido cerradas, ni vendadas, ni suavizadas con aceite. From the sole of the foot, even to the top of the head, there is no soundness within. Wounds and bruises and swelling sores: these are not bandaged, nor treated with medicine, nor soothed with oil.⁷Vuestra tierra es un desierto; vuestras ciudades han sido quemadas, a vuestra vista los extranjeros devoran vuestro suelo, que está desolado como si fuese destruido por extraños. Your land is desolate. Your cities have been set ablaze. Foreigners devour your countryside in your sight, and it will become desolate, as if devastated by enemies.⁸Y la hija de Sión queda como cabaña de viña, como choza de melonar, como ciudad sitiada. And the daughter of Zion will be left behind, like an arbor in a vineyard, and like a shelter in a cucumber field, and like a city being laid to waste.⁹Si Yahvé de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado un pequeño resto, seríamos como Sodoma y semejantes a Gomorra. If the Lord of hosts had not bequeathed us offspring, we would have been like Sodom, and we would have been comparable to Gomorrah.¹⁰¡Oíd la palabra de Yahvé, príncipes de Sodoma! ¡Escucha la ley de nuestro Dios, oh pueblo de Gomorra! Listen to the Word of the Lord, you leaders of the people of Sodom. Listen closely to the law of our God, O people of Gomorrah.¹¹¿De qué me sirve la multitud de vuestros sacrificios? dice Yahvé. Harto estoy de los holocaustos de carneros y del sebo de animales cebados; no me agrada la sangre de toros, ni la de corderos y machos cabríos. The multitude of your sacrifices, what is that to me, says the Lord? I am full. I do not desire holocausts of rams, nor the fat of fatlings, nor the blood of calves and of lambs and of he-goats.¹²¡Y venís a presentaros delante de Mí! ¿Quién os ha pedido que holléis mis atrios? When you approach before my sight, who is it that requires these things from your hands, so that you would walk in my courts?¹³No traigáis más vanas ofrendas; abominable es para Mí el incienso; no aguanto más las neomenias ni los sábados, ni las asambleas solemnes; son asambleas solemnes con crimen. You should no longer offer sacrifice in vain. Incense is an abomination to me. The new moons and the Sabbaths and the other feast days, I will not receive. Your gatherings are iniquitous.¹⁴Mi alma aborrece vuestras neomenias y vuestras fiestas; me son una carga, cansado estoy de soportarlas. My soul hates your days of proclamation and your solemnities. They have become bothersome to me. I labor to endure them.¹⁵Cuando extendéis vuestras manos, cierro ante vosotros mis ojos, y cuando multiplicáis las oraciones, no escucho; vuestras manos están manchadas de sangre. And so, when you extend your hands, I will avert my eyes from you. And when you multiply your prayers, I will not heed you. For your hands are full of blood.¹⁶Lavaos, purificaos; quitad de ante mis ojos la maldad de vuestras obras; cesad de obrar mal. Wash, become clean, take away the evil of your intentions from my eyes. Cease to act perversely.¹⁷Aprended a hacer el bien, buscad lo justo, poned coto al opresor, haced justicia al huérfano, defended la causa de la viuda. Learn to do good. Seek judgment, support the oppressed, judge for the orphan, defend the widow.¹⁸Venid, discutamos juntos, dice Yahvé. Aunque vuestros pecados fuesen como la grana, quedarán blancos como la nieve. Aunque fuesen rojos como el carmesí, vendrán a ser como lana. And then approach and accuse me, says the Lord. Then, if your sins are like scarlet, they shall be made white like snow; and if they are red like vermillion, they shall become white like wool.¹⁹Si queréis y si me escucháis, comeréis de lo mejor de la tierra. If you are willing, and you listen to me, then you will eat the good things of the land.²⁰Pero si no queréis y os rebeláis, seréis devorados por la espada; porque la boca de Yahvé ha hablado. But if you are not willing, and you provoke me to anger, then the sword will devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.²¹¡Cómo se ha convertido en prostituta la ciudad fiel! Llena estaba de justicia, la rectitud moraba en ella; pero ahora es (ciudad) de homicidas. How has the faithful city, full of judgment, become a harlot? Justice lived in her, but now murderers.²²Tu plata se ha tornado escoria; tu vino fue adulterado con agua; Your silver has turned into dross. Your wine has been mixed with water.²³tus príncipes son unos obstinados y compañeros de ladrones; todos aman el soborno y van tras los presentes; no hacen justicia al huérfano, ni llega a ellos la causa de la viuda. Your leaders are unfaithful, the associates of thieves. They all love gifts; they pursue rewards. They do not judge for orphans, and the widow’s case is not brought before them.²⁴Por esto dice el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos, el Fuerte de Israel: “Voy a tomar satisfacción de mis adversarios y venganza de mis enemigos, quitaré de ti todo el metal impuro. Because of this, the Lord God of hosts, the Strength of Israel, says: Ah! I will be consoled over my enemies, and I will be vindicated from my adversaries.²⁵Volveré mi mano sobre ti, y limpiaré como con lejía tus escorias, And I will turn my hand to you. And I will temper your dross unto purity, and I will take away all your tin.²⁶Restituiré tus jueces como fueron al principio, y tus consejeros como eran antes; después de lo cual serás llamada ciudad de justicia, ciudad fiel.” And I will restore your judges, so that they will be as before, and your counselors as in times long past. After this, you shall be called the City of the Just, the Faithful City.²⁷Sión será redimida con justicia, y sus convertidos, con equidad. Zion will be redeemed in judgment, and they will lead her back to justice.²⁸Los transgresores y los pecadores serán quebrantados juntamente, y anonadados los que abandonan a Yahvé. And he shall crush the accursed and sinners together. And those who have abandoned the Lord will be consumed.²⁹Pues os avergonzareis de las encinas que habéis amado, y os abochornaréis por los jardines que habéis escogido. For they shall be confounded because of the idols, to which they have sacrificed. And you shall be ashamed over the gardens that you chose,³⁰Seréis como encina cuya hoja se marchita, y como huerto sin agua. when you were like an oak with falling leaves, and like a garden without water.³¹Será el fuerte como estopa, y su obra cual chispa; arderán los dos juntos, y no habrá quien apague el fuego. And your strength will be like the embers from stubble, and your work will be like a spark, and both will burn together, and there will be no one to extinguish it.
