Isaías 40
1Consolad, consolad a mi pueblo, dice vuestro Dios. “Be consoled, be consoled, O my people!” says your God.2Hablad al corazón de Jerusalén y gritadle que se ha acabado su servidumbre, que ha sido expiada su culpa, que ha recibido de la mano de Yahvé el doble por todos sus pecados. Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and call out to her! For her malice has reached its end. Her iniquity has been forgiven. She has received double for all her sins from the hand of the Lord.3Voz de uno que clama: “Preparad el camino de Yahvé en el desierto, enderezad en el yermo una senda para nuestro Dios. The voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight the paths of our God, in a solitary place.4Que se alce todo valle, y sea abatido todo monte y cerro; que la quebrada se allane y el roquedal se torne en valle. Every valley will be exalted, and every mountain and hill will be brought low. And the crooked will be straightened, and the uneven will become level ways.5Y se manifestará la gloria de Yahvé, y la verá toda carne a una; pues ha hablado la boca de Yahvé.” And the glory of the Lord will be revealed. And all flesh together will see that the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”6Una voz dice: “¡Clama!” y se le da por respuesta: “¿Qué he de clamar?” Toda carne es heno, y toda su gloria como flor del campo; The voice of one saying, “Cry out!” And I said, “What should I cry out?” “All flesh is grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field.7se seca el heno, se marchita la flor; cuando el soplo de Yahvé pasa sobre ella. Sí, el hombre es heno; The grass has dried up, and the flower has fallen. For the Spirit of the Lord has blown over it. Truly, the people are like grass.8se seca la hierba, la flor se marchita, mas la palabra de nuestro Dios permanece eternamente. The grass has dried up, and the flower has fallen. But the Word of our Lord remains for eternity.”9Oh Sión, anunciadora de buenas noticias, súbete a un monte alto, oh Jerusalén, heraldo de alegres nuevas, levanta con fuerza tu voz. Levántala, no temas. Di a las ciudades de Judá: “¡He ahí a vuestro Dios! You who evangelize Zion, climb a high mountain! You who evangelize Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength! Lift it up! Do not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah: “Behold, your God!”10He aquí que Yahvé, el Señor, viene con poder, y su brazo dominará, he aquí que su premio está con Él y delante de Él va su recompensa. Behold, the Lord God will arrive in strength, and his arm will rule. Behold, his reward is with him, and his work is before him.11Como pastor apacentará su rebaño, recogerá con su brazo los corderitos, para llevarlos en su regazo, y conducirá a las ovejas paridas.” He will pasture his flock like a shepherd. He will gather together the lambs with his arm, and he will lift them up to his bosom, and he himself will carry the very young.12¿Quién midió las aguas con el cuenco de su mano y fijó las dimensiones de los cielos con el palmo? ¿Quién encerró en el tercio de una medida todo el polvo de la tierra, pesó en la romana los montes, y en la balanza los collados? Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and who has weighed the heavens with his palm? Who has suspended the mass of the earth with three fingers, and who has weighed the mountains on a balance and the hills on a scale?13¿Quién ha dirigido al Espíritu de Yahvé, y quién fue su consejero para instruirle? Who has assisted the Spirit of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor and has revealed things to him?14¿A quién consultó Él para aprender inteligencia? ¿Quién le mostró el camino de la justicia, y le enseñó la ciencia? ¿Quién le dio a conocer el camino de la sabiduría? With whom has he consulted? And who has instructed him, and taught him the path of justice, and guided him to knowledge, and revealed the way of understanding to him?15Son los pueblos como una gota (suspendida) del balde, y como polvo en la balanza son reputados. He aquí que Él alza las islas como un granito de polvo. Behold, the nations are like a drop of water in a bucket, and they are considered as the smallest grain on a balance. Behold, the islands are like a little dust.16El Líbano no basta para leña, ni sus bestias para holocausto. And Lebanon will not be sufficient to start a fire, and its animals will not be sufficient for a burnt offering.17Todas las naciones son delante de Él como una nonada. Él las considera menos que la nada y menos que la vacuidad. All the nations in his sight are as if they did not exist, and they are considered by him as if they were nothingness and emptiness.18¿Con quién, pues, compararéis a Dios, o qué imagen haréis de Él? Therefore, to whom would you liken God? Or with what image would you replace him?19El ídolo es fundido por el artífice, el orfebre le cubre de oro, y le funde cadenillas de plata. Should the workman cast a statue? Or has the goldsmith formed it with gold, or the silversmith with plates of silver?20El pobre que no puede ofrecer mucho, elige una madera que no se pudre, y busca un hábil artífice, que le haga un ídolo que no se caiga. He has chosen strong wood that will not decay. The skillful artisan seeks a way to set up an idol that cannot be moved.21¿No lo sabéis, y no lo habéis oído? ¿No se os ha anunciado desde el principio? ¿No lo habéis entendido desde que se fundó la tierra? Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been announced to you from the beginning? Have you not understood the foundations of the earth?22Él es quien está sentado sobre el orbe terráqueo, cuyos habitantes son como langostas. Él extiende los cielos como un velo, y los despliega como una tienda, en que se habita. He is the One who sits upon the globe of the earth, and its inhabitants are like locusts. He extends the heavens as if they were nothing, and he spreads them out like a tent, in which to dwell.23Él reduce a los poderosos a la nulidad, y a los jueces de la tierra a la nada. He has brought those who examine what is secret to nothingness. He has brought the judges of the earth to emptiness.24Apenas plantados, apenas sembrados, apenas arraigado su tronco en la tierra, sopla Él sobre ellos, y se agostan, y como pajuela se los lleva el torbellino. And certainly, their stalk was neither planted, nor sown, nor rooted in the ground. He has suddenly blown across them, and they have withered, and a whirlwind will carry them away like chaff.25“¿Con quién, pues, me vais a comparar para que le sea semejante?” dice el Santo. “And to whom would you compare me or equate me?” says the Holy One.26Levantad vuestros ojos a lo alto y mirad: ¿Quién creó estas cosas? Aquel que hace marchar ordenadamente su ejército, y a cada uno de ellos lo llama por su nombre. No falta ninguno, tan enorme es su poder y tan inmensa su fuerza. Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things. He leads forth their army by number, and he calls them all by name. Because of the fullness of his strength and robustness and virtue, not one of them was left behind.27¿Por qué dices tú, oh Jacob, y hablas tú, oh Israel: “Yahvé no conoce mi camino, Dios no tiene interés en mi causa”? Why do you say this, O Jacob, and why do you speak this way, O Israel? “My way has been hidden from the Lord, and my judgment escaped notice by my God.”28¿No lo sabes y nunca lo has oído? Yahvé es el Dios eterno, el Creador de los confines de la tierra, no se fatiga, ni se cansa; su sabiduría es insondable. Do you not know, or have you not heard? The Lord is the eternal God, who has created the limits of the earth. He does not diminish, and he does not struggle. Neither is his wisdom searchable.29Él da fuerzas al desfallecido y aumenta el vigor del que carece de fortaleza, It is he who gives strength to the weary, and it is he who increases fortitude and strength in those who are failing.30Desfallecerán hasta los jóvenes, y se cansarán, y los mismos guerreros llegarán a vacilar. Servants will struggle and fail, and young men will fall into infirmity.31Pero los que esperan en Yahvé renovarán sus fuerzas; echarán a volar como águilas; correrán sin cansarse, caminarán sin desfallecer. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will take up wings like eagles. They will run and not struggle. They will walk and not tire.
