1Los hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, y Yahvé los entregó en manos de los filisteos durante cuarenta años. And again, the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. And he delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.2Vivía entonces en Saraá un hombre de la familia de los danitas, de nombre Manué, cuya mujer era estéril y no tenía hijos. Now there was a certain man from Zorah, and of the stock of Dan, whose name was Manoah, having a barren wife.3Apareció el Ángel de Yahvé a la mujer y le dijo: “He aquí que eres estéril y no has tenido hijo; pero concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. And an Angel of the Lord appeared to her, and he said: “You are barren and without children. But you shall conceive and bear a son.4Ahora guárdate de beber vino o bebida fuerte, y no comas cosa inmunda. Therefore, take care that you do not drink wine or strong drink. Neither shall you eat anything unclean.5Pues he aquí que concebirás y darás a luz un hijo sobre cuya cabeza no ha de pasar navaja, porque este niño será desde su nacimiento nazareo de Dios; y él comenzará a librar a Israel del poder de los filisteos.” For you shall conceive and bear a son, whose head no razor shall touch. For he shall be a Nazirite of God, from his infancy and from his mother’s womb. And he shall begin to free Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”6Fue la mujer y habló con su marido, diciendo: “Un varón de Dios ha venido a mí, y era su aspecto como el del Ángel de Dios, muy temible, pero no le pregunté de dónde era, ni él me manifestó su nombre. And when she had gone to her husband, she said to him: “A man of God came to me, having the countenance of an Angel, exceedingly terrible. And when I had inquired of him, who he was, and where he was from, and what name he was called, he was not willing to tell me.7Me dijo: «He aquí que concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. No bebas vino ni bebida fuerte, ni comas de ninguna cosa inmunda; porque el niño será nazareo de Dios, desde su nacimiento hasta el día de su muerte».” But he responded: ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. Take care that you do not drink wine or strong drink. And you shall not consume anything unclean. For the boy shall be a Nazirite of God from his infancy, from his mother’s womb, even until the day of his death.’ ”8Entonces Manué oró a Yahvé, diciendo: “Oh Señor, te ruego que el varón de Dios que enviaste venga otra vez a nosotros y nos enseñe qué debemos hacer con el niño que ha de nacer.” And so Manoah prayed to the Lord, and he said, “I beg you Lord, that the man of God, whom you sent, may come again, and may teach us what we ought to do about the boy who is to be born.”9Escuchó Dios el ruego de Manué y vino el Ángel de Dios otra vez a la mujer, cuando estaba sentada en el campo, pero Manué, su marido no se hallaba con ella. And the Lord heeded the prayer of Manoah, and the Angel of the Lord appeared again to his wife, sitting in a field. But her husband Manoah was not with her. And when she had seen the Angel,10Entonces corrió la mujer a toda prisa y avisó a su marido, diciéndole: “He aquí, se me ha aparecido el varón que vino a mí el otro día.” she hurried and ran to her husband. And she reported to him, saying, “Behold, the man appeared to me, whom I had seen before.”11Manué se levantó y siguió a su mujer, y llegado donde estaba el varón, le preguntó: “¿Eres tú el hombre que hablaste con esta mujer?” Respondió él: “Yo soy.” And he rose up and followed his wife. And going to the man, he said to him, “Are you the one who spoke to my wife?” And he responded, “I am.”12Y dijo Manué: “Cuando se cumpla tu palabra, ¿cuáles son los preceptos que habrá que observar respecto del niño y que ha de hacerse con él?” And Manoah said to him: “When will your word be fulfilled. What do you want the boy to do? Or from what should he keep himself?”13Contestó el Ángel de Yahvé a Manué: “Que la mujer se abstenga de cuanto le he indicado; And the Angel of the Lord said to Manoah: “Concerning all the things about which I have spoken to your wife, she herself should abstain.14que no coma nada de lo que viene de la vid, que no beba vino ni bebida fuerte ni coma cosa inmunda; que ella observe todo cuanto le he mandado.” And let her eat nothing from the vine. She may not drink wine or strong drink. She may consume nothing unclean. And let her observe and keep what I have instructed to her.”15Entonces Manué dijo al Ángel: “Permítenos que te retengamos para prepararte un cabrito.” And Manoah said to the Angel of the Lord, “I beg you to agree to my petition, and to let us prepare a kid from the goats.”16Pero el Ángel de Yahvé dijo a Manué: “Por más que me retengas no comeré de tu alimento; mas si quieres preparar un holocausto, lo has de ofrecer a Yahvé.” Pues Manué no sabía que era el Ángel de Yahvé. And the Angel answered him: “Even if you compel me, I will not eat from your bread. But if you are willing to offer a holocaust, offer it to the Lord.” And Manoah did not know that he was an Angel of the Lord.17Y así preguntó al Ángel de Yahvé: “¿Cuál es tu nombre, para que te honremos cuando se cumpla tu palabra?” And he said to him, “What is your name, so that, if your word is fulfilled, we may honor you?”18A lo cual respondió el Ángel de Yahvé: “¿Por qué preguntas por mí nombre, siendo él admirable?” And he answered him, “Why do you ask my name, which is a wonder?”19Tomó, entonces, Manué un cabrito con la oblación correspondiente, y lo ofreció sobre la peña a Yahvé quien hizo una cosa milagrosa, a la vista de Manué y su mujer. And so, Manoah took a kid from the goats, and libations, and he placed them upon a rock, as an offering to the Lord, who accomplishes wonders. Then he and his wife watched.20Pues al subir la llama de sobre el altar hacia el cielo, subió también el Ángel de Yahvé con la llama del altar. Viéndolo Manué y su mujer, se postraron en tierra sobre sus rostros. And when the flame of the altar ascended to heaven, the Angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. And when Manoah and his wife had seen this, they fell prone on the ground.21El Ángel de Yahvé no volvió a aparecerse a Manué y su mujer. Entonces conoció Manué que era el Ángel de Yahvé; And the Angel of the Lord no longer appeared to them. And immediately, Manoah understood him to be an Angel of the Lord.22y dijo Manué a su mujer: “Debemos morir porque hemos visto a Dios.” And he said to his wife, “We shall certainly die, since we have seen God.”23Pero su mujer le dijo: “Si Yahvé quisiera quitarnos la vida no habría aceptado de nuestras manos holocausto y oblación y no nos habría mostrado todas estas cosas, ni nos habría hecho oír palabras como estas.” And his wife answered him, “If the Lord wished to kill us, he would not have accepted the holocaust and the libations from our hands. He would not have revealed all these things to us, nor would he have told us the things that are in the future.”24La mujer dio a luz un hijo, al cual puso por nombre Sansón. Creció el niño y Yahvé le bendijo. And so she bore a son, and she called his name Samson. And the boy grew up, and the Lord blessed him.25Y el Espíritu de Yahvé comenzó a inspirarle en Mahané-Dan, entre Saraá y Estaol. And the Spirit of the Lord began to be with him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
