Judit 12
1Entonces mandó que la llevasen adonde se guardaban sus tesoros, y que se quedase allí, y señaló lo que debía dársele de su mesa. Then he ordered her to enter where his valuables were stored, and he ordered her to wait there, and he appointed what should be given to her from his own feast.2Judit le respondió y dijo: “Por ahora no podré comer de esas cosas que mandas darme, por no acarrear culpa sobre mí, sino que comeré de lo que he traído conmigo.” And Judith responded to him, and she said: “Now, I am not able to eat from these things which you instructed to be allotted to me, lest an offense come upon me. But I will eat from that which I have brought.”3Holofernes le replicó: “Y cuando te lleguen a faltar esas cosas que has traído, ¿qué haremos contigo?” And Holofernes said to her, “If these things that you have brought with you should fail you, what shall we do for you?”4“Yo juro por tu vida, mi señor, respondió Judit, que no consumirá tu sierva todas estas cosas, sin que cumpla Dios por mi mano lo que he pensado.” Y los siervos de Holofernes la acompañaron al pabellón señalado. And Judith said, “As your soul lives, my lord, your maidservant will not expend all these things, until God accomplishes by my hand what I have in mind.” And his servants led her into the tabernacle, as he instructed.5Entrando allí, pidió permiso para salir fuera por la noche y antes de amanecer, para orar e invocar al Señor. And, as she was entering, she requested that it be permitted to her to go outside at night, before daylight, in order to pray and to petition the Lord.6Dio, pues, Holofernes orden a sus camareros que durante tres días la dejasen salir y entrar para adorar a su Dios como ella quisiese. And he instructed his chamberlains that she may exit and enter, just as it may please her, to adore her God, for three days.7De modo que salía por las noches al valle de Betulia, para lavarse en una fuente de agua. And she went out in the nights into the valley of Bethulia, and she washed herself in a fountain of water.8Cuando volvía oraba al Señor, Dios de Israel, para que enderezase su camino, a fin de librar a su pueblo. And, as she climbed up, she prayed to the Lord God of Israel that he would direct her way, to the liberation of his people.9Y volviéndose a su pabellón permanecía allí purificada hasta que al anochecer tomaba su alimento. And entering, she remained pure in the tabernacle, until she received her own food in the evening.10A los cuatro días celebró Holofernes un convite con sus servidores, y dijo a Vagao, su eunuco: “Anda y persuade a esa hebrea que espontáneamente consienta en cohabitar conmigo. And it happened on the fourth day that Holofernes made a supper for his servants, and he said to Vagao his eunuch: “Go, and persuade that Hebrew woman to willingly consent to live with me.11Porque es cosa vergonzosa entre los asirios que una mujer se burle de un hombre, logrando salir intacta de sus manos.” For it is disgraceful among the Assyrians, if a woman mocks a man, acting so as to pass through with immunity from him.”12Entonces Vagao entró donde estaba Judit, y le dijo: “No vacile esta hermosa sierva en venir a casa de mi señor, para ser honrada en su presencia, comer con él y beber vino con alegría.” Then Vagao entered toward Judith, and he said, “May she not dread, my good young woman, to enter to my lord, so that she may be honored before his face, so that she may eat with him and drink wine with cheerfulness.”13Judit le respondió: “¿Quién soy yo para oponerme a mi señor? Judith answered him: “Who am I, that I should contradict my lord?14Haré todo lo que le guste y mejor le parezca; y todo lo que sea de su agrado, esto será para mí lo mejor en todos los días de mi vida.” All that will be good and best before his eyes, I will do. Moreover, whatever will please him, to me, that will be what is best, all the days of my life.”15Con esto se levantó, y adornada con todas sus galas, entró a presentarse delante de él. And she arose and dressed herself with her garments, and entering, she stood before his face.16Y se conmovió el corazón de Holofernes, pues se abrasaba en deseos de poseerla; But the heart of Holofernes was struck. For he was burning with desire for her.17y le dijo: “Bebe ahora y siéntate a comer alegremente, porque has hallado gracia delante de mí.” And Holofernes said to her, “Drink now, and recline with cheerfulness, for you have found favor before me.”18Judit le contestó: “Beberé, señor, pues recibo en este día mayor gloria que en todos los días de mi vida.” And Judith said, “I will drink, my lord, because my soul has been magnified this day, beyond all my days.”19Y tomó de lo que su criada le había preparado, y comió y bebió en su presencia. And she accepted and ate and drank in his sight what her handmaid had prepared for her.20Holofernes estuvo muy alegre a causa de ella; y bebió vino sin medida, más de lo que nunca en su vida había tomado. And Holofernes became pleased with her, and he drank very much wine, more than he had ever drunk in his life.
