1En cuanto terminaron de hablar, Holofernes indignado sobremanera, dijo a Aquior: But when they had ceased speaking, it happened that Holofernes, being very indignant, said to Achior:2“Ya que has profetizado, diciéndonos que el pueblo de Israel es defendido por su Dios, y para hacerte ver que no hay otro Dios fuera de Nabucodonosor, “Because you have prophesied to us, saying that the people of Israel may be defended by their God, and so as to reveal to you that there is no God, except Nebuchadnezzar:3pasaremos a cuchillo a todos ellos, como si fuesen un solo hombre, después perecerás tú también al filo de la espada de los asirios, y todo Israel perecerá contigo. when we will have struck them all as one man, then you also will pass away with them by the sword of the Assyrians, and all Israel will perish into perdition with you.4Entonces sabrás por experiencia que Nabucodonosor es el señor de toda la tierra; porque entonces la espada de mis soldados atravesará tu costado y caerás traspasado entre los heridos de Israel, y no respirarás más, sino que serás exterminado con ellos. And you will be shown that Nebuchadnezzar is the lord of the whole earth. And then, the sword of my army will pass through your sides, and, being stabbed, you will fall among the wounded of Israel, and you will breathe no longer, when you have been destroyed with them.5Si tú realmente tienes por cierta tu profecía, no se abata tu rostro; y apártese de ti esa palidez que cubre tu semblante, si de veras crees que no pueden cumplirse estas palabras mías. And furthermore, if you consider your prophecy to be true, do not let your countenance fall, and let the paleness that has taken hold of your face depart from you, if you claim that these my words cannot be fulfilled.6Mas para que sepas que has de sufrir esto juntamente con ellos, he aquí que desde ahora serás asociado a su pueblo, a fin de que cuando por mi espada reciban el castigo merecido, también tú seas envuelto en la venganza.” But so that you may know that you will experience these things together with them, behold, from this hour you will be associated with their people, so that, when they receive the punishment that they deserve from my sword, you will fall under the same vengeance.”7Entonces Holofernes ordenó a sus siervos que prendiesen a Aquior y lo llevasen a Betulia, para entregarlo en manos de los hijos de Israel. Then Holofernes instructed his servants to apprehend Achior, and to lead him through to Bethulia, and to deliver him into the hands of the sons of Israel.8Tomaron, pues, los siervos de Holofernes a Aquior y atravesaron la llanura; mas cuando llegaron a las montañas, salieron contra ellos los honderos, And, taking him, the servants of Holofernes traveled through the plains. But when they approached close to the mountains, the slingers of stones went forth against them.9por lo que declinando hacia un lado del monte amarraron a Aquior de pies y manos a un árbol; y así atado con cuerdas lo dejaron, volviéndose a su señor. Then, diverting by the side of the mountain, they tied Achior, hands and feet, to a tree, and so they abandoned him, bound with ropes, and they returned to their lord.10Los hijos de Israel descendieron de Betulia, y llegados a él, lo desataron y lo condujeron a Betulia, donde lo pusieron en medio del pueblo y le preguntaron cuál era la causa de haberlo atado los asirios. Thereafter, the sons of Israel, descending from Bethulia, came to him. Releasing him, they brought him to Bethulia. And so, standing him in the midst of the people, they interrogated him as to what event caused the Assyrians to abandon him, bound.11En aquel tiempo eran allí príncipes, Ocías, hijo de Micas, de la tribu de Simeón, y Carmí, llamado también Gotoniel. In those days, the rulers of that place were Uzziah, the son of Micah of the tribe of Simeon, and Chabris, also called Gothoniel.12Estando Aquior en medio de los ancianos y en presencia de todos, contó todo cuanto había respondido a las preguntas de Holofernes, y cómo la gente de Holofernes le había querido matar por haber hablado de aquella manera, And so, in the midst of the elders and in the sight of everyone, Achior explained all that he had said in reply to the questioning of Holofernes, and in what manner the people of Holofernes wanted to have him killed because of this word,13y cómo a causa de esto el mismo Holofernes irritado le había mandado entregar a los israelitas, para que, luego que estos fuesen vencidos, le quitara la vida por medio de varios suplicios, por haber dicho: “El Dios del cielo es el defensor de ellos.” and how Holofernes himself, being angry, had ordered him to be handed over to the Israelites, for this reason: so that when he would prevail over the sons of Israel, then he would also command Achior himself to be executed by diverse torments, because he had said that the God of heaven is their defender.14Explicadas todas estas cosas por Aquior, todo el pueblo se postró sobre su rostro para adorar al Señor, y con gemidos y llanto general derramaron unánimes sus plegarias ante el Señor, And when Achior had declared all these things, all the people fell on their faces, adoring the Lord, and, communing together with mourning and weeping, they poured out their prayers with one mind to the Lord,15diciendo: “Señor Dios del cielo y de la tierra, mira la soberbia de ellos y contempla nuestra humillación; considera el semblante de tus santos y muestra que no abandonas a los que confían en Ti, y que humillas a los que presumen de sí mismos y se jactan de su poder.” saying: “O Lord, God of heaven and earth, behold their arrogance, and gaze upon our humility, and attend to the face of your holy ones, and reveal that you do not abandon those who rely on you, and that those who rely on themselves and who glory in their own strength, you humble.”16Acabado el llanto y concluida la oración del pueblo, que duró todo el día, consolaron a Aquior, And so, when their weeping was ended, and the prayer of the people throughout the entire day was completed, they consoled Achior,17diciendo: “El Dios de nuestros padres, cuyo poder has pregonado, Ese mismo te dará, como recompensa, que veas tú antes la ruina de aquellos. saying: “The God of our fathers, whose power you have predicted, will give to you this in return: that you, instead, will see the destruction of them.18Cuando el Señor nuestro Dios hubiere dado libertad a sus siervos, esté Él también contigo en medio de nosotros, para que del modo que mejor te parezca vivas entre nosotros, así tú como los tuyos.” Truly, when the Lord our God will give this freedom to his servants, may God also be with you in our midst, so that, just as it pleases you, everyone who is with you may keep company with us.”19Entonces Ocías, despedida la asamblea, le hospedó en su casa y le ofreció un gran banquete, Then Uzziah, after the council was ended, received him into his own house, and he made him a great supper.20al cual convidó a todos los ancianos. Así después de haber ayunado todo el día, tomaron juntos su alimento. And all the elders were invited; together they refreshed themselves at the completion of their fast.21Después fue convocado todo el pueblo, y toda la noche hicieron oración dentro de la sinagoga, pidiendo socorro al Dios de Israel. In truth, after this, all the people were called together, and they prayed throughout the entire night within the assembly, petitioning help from the God of Israel.
