Jeremías 4
1“Si te conviertes, oh Israel, conviértete a Mí, dice Yahvé; y si quitas de delante de Mí tus abominaciones, no andarás más errante. “O Israel, if you would return, says the Lord, then be converted to me. If you remove your offense from before my face, then you will not be shaken.2Si juras “¡Vive Yahvé!” en verdad, y con rectitud, y con justicia, serán bendecidas en Él las naciones y en Él se gloriarán. And you will swear, ‘As the Lord lives,’ in truth and in judgment and in justice.” And the Gentiles will bless him, and they will praise him.3Pues así dice Yahvé a los hombres de Judá y de Jerusalén: Preparaos un campo virgen y no sembréis entre zarzas. For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and of Jerusalem: “Break new ground, and do not choose to sow upon thorns.4Circuncidaos para Yahvé, y quitad los prepucios de vuestros corazones, varones de Judá y moradores de Jerusalén, no sea que estalle, cual fuego, mi ira, y arda sin que haya quien la apague, por la maldad de vuestras obras. Be circumcised to the Lord, and take away the foreskins from your hearts, O men of Judah, O inhabitants of Jerusalem. Otherwise my indignation may burst forth and flare up like a fire. And then there will be no one who can extinguish it, because of the wickedness of your thoughts.5Promulgadlo en Judá, y en Jerusalén dadlo a conocer; clamad y sonad la trompeta por el país, gritad fuerte y decid: «Juntaos, y retirémonos a las ciudades fortificadas.» Declare it in Judah, and make it known in Jerusalem! Speak out and sound the trumpet in the land! Cry out strongly and say: ‘Gather yourselves! And let us go forth to fortified cities!’6¡Alzad un estandarte, (para huir) a Sión, apresuraos, y no os detengáis! pues voy a traer desde el norte un mal y gran desolación. Lift up a standard in Zion. Be strengthened! Do not choose to stand still. For I am bringing an evil from the north, with great destruction.7Ya salió el león del matorral, el asolador de pueblos se ha puesto en marcha, salió de su lugar para trocar tu tierra en un yermo; tus ciudades serán asoladas, sin que quede habitante. The lion has ascended from his den, and the pillager of the nations has lifted himself up. He has gone forth from his place, so that he may set your land in desolation. Your cities will be laid waste, remaining without an inhabitant.8Por tanto ceñíos de saco, llorad y lamentaos, pues no se aparta de nosotros a ardiente ira de Yahvé. Concerning this, wrap yourselves in haircloth, mourn and wail: ‘For the wrath of the fury of the Lord has not been turned away from us.’9En aquel día, dice Yahvé, desfallecerá el corazón del rey y el corazón de los príncipes; los sacerdotes quedaran pasmados, y los profetas llenos de consternación.” And this shall be in that day, says the Lord: The heart of the king will perish, with the heart of the princes. And the priests will be stupefied, and the prophets will be in consternation.”10Y dije yo: “¡Ah, Señor Yahvé! Ciertamente has engañado a este pueblo y a Jerusalén, diciendo: «Tendréis paz», cuando la espada ha llegado ya hasta el alma.” And I said: “Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God! Could it be that you have deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying: ‘Peace shall be yours,’ while, behold, the sword reaches even to the soul?”11Entonces se dirá a este pueblo y a Jerusalén: “Un viento abrasador viene de los montes del desierto, en dirección a la hija de mi pueblo, mas no para aventar, ni para limpiar. “In that time, it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem: ‘A burning wind is in the ways that are in the desert, along the way of the daughter of my people, but not to winnow and not to cleanse.’12Será un viento impetuoso el que ha de llegar. Ahora voy también yo a pronunciar sentencia contra ellos.” A full spirit from these places will come to me. And now I will speak my judgments over them.13He aquí que avanza como las nubes; como torbellino son sus carros, y más ligeros que las águilas sus caballos. ¡Ay de nosotros, pues estamos perdidos! Behold, he will ascend like a cloud, and his chariot will ascend like a tempest. His horses are swifter than eagles. ‘Woe to us! For we are being devastated!’14¡Lava de malicia tu corazón, Jerusalén, para que seas salva! ¿Hasta cuándo hospedarás en tu corazón tus maliciosos pensamientos? Wash your heart from malice, O Jerusalem, so that you may be saved. How long will harmful thoughts abide in you?15Porque una voz trae las nuevas desde Dan, y anuncia la calamidad desde la montaña de Efraím. For there is a voice, of someone announcing from Dan, and he is making known the idol from mount Ephraim.16Hacedlo saber a las naciones, avisad a Jerusalén, que vienen sitiadores de una tierra remota, y lanzan gritos contra las ciudades de Judá. Say to the nations: ‘Behold, it has been heard in Jerusalem! Guardians are coming from a far away land, to utter their voice against the cities of Judah.’17Como guardas de campo están a la redonda contra ella, por cuanto se ha rebelado contra Mí —oráculo de Yahvé. They have been stationed over her, like the guardians of fields, all around. For she has provoked me to wrath, says the Lord.18Tu conducta y tus malas obras te han valido esto; es (el fruto de) tu maldad; (castigo) amargo que te llega hasta el corazón. Your ways and your thoughts have brought these things upon you. This is your own wickedness. And it is bitter, because it has touched your heart.19¡Mis entrañas! ¡Mis entrañas! ¡Qué dolor en las paredes de mi corazón! agitase mi corazón; no puedo estar quieto, por cuanto has oído, alma mía, el sonido de la trompeta, el grito estrepitoso de la guerra. I am afflicted in my heart, in my heart. The senses of my heart have been stirred up within me. I will not remain silent. For my soul has heard the voice of the trumpet, the clamor of the battle.20Llegan noticias de desastre sobre desastre; todo el país está devastado; súbitamente han sido destruidas mis tiendas, de un momento a otro mis pabellones. Destruction upon destruction has been called forth. And the entire earth has been devastated. My tabernacles have been destroyed suddenly, and my tents in an instant.21¿Hasta cuándo he de ver la bandera, y oír el sonido del clarín? How long shall I watch those who are fleeing, and listen to the voice of the trumpet?22¡Qué necio es mi pueblo!, no me han conocido; son hijos insensatos que no tienen inteligencia; son sabios para hacer el mal, pero el bien no saben hacerlo. For my foolish people have not known me. They are foolish and mad sons. They are clever in doing evil, but they do not know how to do good.23Miro la tierra, y he aquí que está desolada y vacía; los cielos, y no hay luz en ellos. I gazed upon the earth, and behold, it was empty and brought to nothing. And I gazed upon the heavens, but there was no light in them.24Miro los montes, y he aquí que tiemblan, y se conmueven todos los collados. I watched the mountains, and behold, they trembled, and all the hills were shaken.25Miro, y he aquí que no hay hombre alguno, y las aves del cielo han huido todas. I looked, and there was no man. And all the flying things of the air had gone away.26Miro, y he aquí que la tierra fértil es un desierto, y todas sus ciudades están destruidas, ante Yahvé, ante el ardor de su ira. I gazed, and behold, Carmel was a desert, and all its cities were destroyed before the face of the Lord, and before the face of the wrath of his fury.”27Porque así dice Yahvé: “Todo el país será un yermo, pero no lo arruinaré del todo. For thus says the Lord: “All the earth will be desolate, but I will not yet bring about its consummation.28Por esto la tierra se pondrá de luto y se oscurecerán los cielos allá arriba; porque Yo lo he dicho, Yo lo he resuelto, y no me arrepiento ni me retracto.” The earth will mourn, and the heavens will lament from above. For I have spoken, I have decided, and I have not regretted. Neither will I be turned away from it.29Al estruendo de la caballería y de los flecheros cada ciudad se pone en fuga; se retiran a las selvas y escalan las peñas; todas las ciudades están abandonadas, sin que en ellas quedase un solo habitante. Before the voice of the horsemen and of those who send forth arrows, the entire city has fled. They have entered steep places, and they have ascended the cliffs. All of the cities have been abandoned, and no man lives within them.30Y tú, ¿qué harás, oh desolada? Aunque te vistas de púrpura, aunque te cubras con adornos de oro, y te pintes los ojos con antimonio; en vano te embellecerás; tus amantes te desprecian, buscan tu vida. So then, when you have been devastated, what will you do? Though you will clothe yourself with scarlet, though you will adorn yourself with a gold necklace and tint your eyes with cosmetics, you will be dressing yourself up in vain. Your lovers have spurned you; they will be seeking your life.31Oigo gritos como de parturienta, gemidos como de la que por primera vez da a luz; es la voz de la hija de Sion, que lanza ayes y extiende sus manos: “¡Ay de mí! desfallece mi alma a causa de la mortandad.” For I have heard a voice, like that of a woman giving birth, during the difficulties of labor. It is the voice of the daughter of Zion, dying, extending her hands: ‘Woe to me! For my soul is failing because of those who have been slain!’ ”
