Jeremías 50
1Palabra que Yahvé dirigió a Babilonia, a la tierra de los caldeos, por boca del profeta Jeremías: The word that the Lord has spoken about Babylon and about the land of the Chaldeans, by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.2“Publicadlo entre los pueblos, pregonadlo; alzad bandera, proclamadlo, no lo encubráis; decid: «Tomada ha sido Babilonia; avergonzado está Bel y abatido Merodac. Sus simulacros están cubiertos de ignominia, sus ídolos tiemblan de terror». “Announce it among the Gentiles, and make it known. Lift up a sign. Proclaim it and do not conceal it. Say this: ‘Babylon has been captured. Bel has been confounded. Merodach has been conquered. Their graven things have been confounded. Their idols have not survived.’3Pues desde el Septentrión marcha contra ella una nación, que hará de su tierra una soledad sin habitantes; hombres y bestias huyeron, se marcharon. For a nation has ascended against her from the north, which will set her land in desolation. And there will be no one who may live within it, from man even to beast. For they have been removed and have gone away.4En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo, dice Yahvé, vendrán los hijos de Israel, y con ellos los hijos de Judá; vendrán llorando y buscando a Yahvé, su Dios. In those days and in that time, says the Lord, the sons of Israel will advance, they and the sons of Judah together. Weeping as they walk, they will hurry on, and they will seek the Lord their God.5Preguntarán por el camino de Sión, dirigiendo hacia allá sus rostros, (y diciendo): «Vamos y liguémonos con Yahvé en alianza eterna, que nunca será borrada.» They will ask the way to Zion; their faces will be set toward this place. They will arrive and will be joined to the Lord by an everlasting covenant, which nothing will wipe away into oblivion.6Mi pueblo ha venido a ser un rebaño de ovejas perdidas, sus pastores lo han descarriado; por los montes lo hicieron ir vagando; y andando de monte en collado se han olvidado del aprisco. My people have become a lost flock. Their shepherds have led them astray and have caused them to wander in the mountains. They have crossed from mountain to hill. They have forgotten their resting place.7Cuantos los hallaban, los devoraban; y sus opresores se decían: «No hacemos mal, pues han pecado contra Yahvé, la morada de justicia; contra Yahvé, la esperanza de sus padres.» All whom they have found, they have devoured. And their enemies have said: ‘We have not sinned. For it is they who have sinned against the Lord, the beauty of justice, and against the Lord, the hope of their fathers.’8Huid de en medio de Babel, y salid del país de los caldeos, sed como los carneros que van delante del rebaño. Withdraw from the midst of Babylon, and go forth from the land of the Chaldeans. And be like young goats before the flock.9Pues he aquí que Yo suscitaré y lanzaré contra Babel una multitud de grandes naciones desde el país del Norte, se apostarán contra ella, y de ese lado será tomada; sus flechas son como de hábil guerrero; no vuelven vacías. For behold, I am raising up, and I will lead against Babylon, a congregation of great nations from the land of the north. And they will be prepared against her, and from there she will be taken. Their arrows, like those of a strong man, a killer, will not return empty.10Y Caldea será saqueada; todos sus saqueadores se hartarán”, dice Yahvé. And Chaldea will become a prey. All who lay waste to her will be filled, says the Lord.11Aunque os alegráis y saltáis de gozo, oh saqueadores de mi herencia; aunque brincáis como novilla en la hierba y relincháis como caballos, For you exult and you speak great things, plundering my inheritance. For you have spread out like calves upon the grass, and you have bellowed like bulls.12quedará muy avergonzada vuestra madre, será cubierta de ignominia la que os dio a luz. He aquí que será la última de las naciones, desierto, tierra árida, estepa. Your mother has been exceedingly shamed, and she who bore you has become equal to the dust. Behold, she will be the last among the nations, a desert, impassable and dry.13A causa de la ira de Yahvé no será habitada, y toda ella se convertirá en soledad. Cuantos pasaren junto a Babilonia, se pasmarán y harán rechifla de todas sus plagas. By the wrath of the Lord, it will not be inhabited. Instead, it will be entirely desolate. Everyone who passes by Babylon will be stupefied and will hiss over all her wounds.14Tomad posiciones contra Babilonia a la redonda; los que tendéis el arco, tirad contra ella, no escatiméis las flechas, porque ha pecado contra Yahvé. Prepare yourselves against Babylon, on every side, all you who bend the bow. Make war against her! You should not spare the arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.15Alzad contra ella el grito por todos lados; se rinde ya, caen sus baluartes, derribados están sus muros. Es la venganza de Yahvé; tomad venganza de ella; tratadla como ella os ha tratado a vosotros. Cry out against her! For where she has put forth a hand, her foundations have fallen, her walls have been destroyed. For it is the vengeance of the Lord. Take vengeance against her! Just as she has done, do so to her.16Exterminad de Babilonia al que siembra, y al que maneja la hoz en el tiempo de la siega. Ante la espada destructora vuélvase cada cual a su pueblo, y huya cada uno a su tierra. Destroy the founder from Babylon, and the one who holds the sickle in the time of harvest. Before the face of the sword of the dove, each one will turn back to his people, and every one will flee to his own land.17Un rebaño descarriado es Israel, lo dispersaron los leones. Primero lo devoró el rey de Asiria, y el último ha sido este Nabucodonosor, rey de Babel, que le rompió los huesos. Israel is a scattered flock. The lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him. And last, this Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, has taken away his bones.18Por tanto, así dice Yahvé de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “He aquí que Yo castigaré al rey de Babilonia y su tierra al modo que castigué al rey de Asiria. Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will visit the king of Babylon and his land, just as I have visited the king of Assyria.19Traeré a Israel a sus pastizales, y pacerá en el Carmelo y en Basán; sobre las montañas de Efraím y de Galaad se saciará. And I will lead back Israel to his habitation. And he will pasture on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul will be satiated at mount Ephraim and Gilead.20En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo, dice Yahvé, se buscará la iniquidad de Israel, y no se hallará; y los pecados de Judá, y no se encontrarán, porque seré propicio al resto que haya dejado. In those days and at that time, says the Lord, the iniquity of Israel will be sought, and there will be none. And the sin of Judah will be sought, and none will be found. For I will be forgiving to them, whom I will leave behind.21¡Sube contra la tierra de las rebeliones, sube contra ella y sus habitantes (que merecen) castigo! ¡Devasta y extirpa sus restos, dice Yahvé, y haz conforme a cuanto te tengo mandado!” Ascend against the land of the rulers, and visit against its inhabitants! Scatter and destroy whatever has been left behind them, says the Lord, and act according to all that I have instructed you.22¡Estruendo de guerra en la tierra, y ruina tremenda! A voice of war in the land, and great destruction!23¡Cómo ha sido roto y quebrado el martillo de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo ha venido a ser Babilonia un objeto de horror en medio de las naciones! How has the mallet of the entire earth been broken and crushed? How has Babylon been turned into a desert among the nations?24Te he tendido un lazo, y quedaste presa, oh Babilonia, sin darte cuenta. Fuiste sorprendida y tomada, porque hiciste guerra contra Yahvé. I have ensnared you, and you have been captured, O Babylon, and you did not realize it. You have been discovered and seized, because you provoked the Lord.25Abrió Yahvé su arsenal y sacó las armas de su indignación; porque el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos, quiere ejecutar una obra en el país de los caldeos. The Lord has opened his storehouse, and he has brought forth the instruments of his wrath. For there is work for the Lord, the God of hosts, within the land of the Chaldeans.26¡Venid contra ella desde los cabos (del mundo), abrid sus graneros, haced de (sus piedras) montones como gavillas y exterminadla; no le quede ni siquiera un resto! Advance against her from the furthest regions! Open, so that those who will trample her may go out! Take stones from the road, and gather them into piles, and destroy her. And let there be nothing left of her.27Matad a todos sus toros, sean conducidos al matadero. ¡Ay de ellos, pues ha llegado su día, el tiempo de su castigo! Scatter all her strong ones. Let them descend to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has arrived, the time of their visitation.28Se oye la voz de fugitivos que escapan de la tierra de Babel, para anunciar en Sión la venganza de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, la venganza de su Templo. It is the voice of those who are fleeing and of those who have escaped from the land of Babylon: to announce in Zion the revenge of the Lord our God, the revenge of his Temple.29Convocad contra Babilonia a muchos (pueblos), a todos los que entesan el arco; acampad contra ella a la redonda, para que nadie escape; dadle el pago de sus obras; haced con ella conforme a cuanto ella ha hecho, pues se ha alzado contra Yahvé, contra el Santo de Israel. Announce it to the many in Babylon, to all who bend the bow. Stand together against her all around, and let no one escape. Repay her according to her work. In accord with all that she has done, do to her. For she has raised herself up against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.30“Por eso caerán en sus plazas sus jóvenes, y todos sus guerreros perecerán en aquel día, dice Yahvé. For this reason, her young men will fall in her streets. And all her men of war will be silenced, in that day, says the Lord.31Heme aquí contra ti, oh soberbio, dice el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos; pues ha llegado tu día, el tiempo de tu castigo. Behold, I am against you, O proud one, says the Lord, the God of hosts. For your day has arrived, the time of your visitation.32Tropezará el soberbio y caerá, sin que haya quien le levante; pues pegaré fuego a sus ciudades que devorará todos sus alrededores.” And the proud one will fall and be ruined. And there will be no one who may lift him up. And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour everything around him.”33Así dice Yahvé de los ejércitos: “Viven oprimidos los hijos de Israel juntamente con los hijos de Judá, y todos los que los cautivaron los retienen y rehúsan soltarlos. Thus says the Lord of hosts: “The sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have endured calumny together. All who have seized them are holding them and refusing to release them.34Pero su libertador es fuerte, Yahvé de los ejércitos es su nombre; Él no tardará en defender la causa de ellos, para dar descanso al país y hacer temblar a los habitantes de Babilonia. Their redeemer is strong. The Lord of hosts is his name. He will defend their case in judgment, so that he may terrify the land and disturb the inhabitants of Babylon.35¡Espada contra los caldeos, dice Yahvé, y contra los habitantes de Babilonia; contra sus príncipes y contra sus sabios! A sword is for the Chaldeans, says the Lord, and for the inhabitants of Babylon, and for her leaders, and for her wise ones.36¡Espada contra los impostores y se volverán estúpidos, espada contra sus combatientes y se amedrentarán! A sword is for her diviners, who will be fooled. A sword is for her strong ones, who will be afraid.37¡Espada contra sus caballos y contra sus carros, contra toda la turba de gentes en medio de ella, y serán como mujeres! ¡Espada contra sus tesoros, que serán saqueados! A sword is for their horses, and for their chariots, and for all the common people who are in her midst. And they will be like women. A sword is for her storehouses, and they will be plundered.38¡Sequedad sobre sus aguas, que se secarán! Porque es un país de ídolos, se vuelven locos con sus imágenes. A drought is over her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is a land of graven images, and they glory in portents.39Por eso habitarán (allí) las fieras con los chacales; y los avestruces tendrán en ella su morada; nunca jamás será habitada, ni volverá a ser poblada en los siglos. Because of this, dragons will live there with the fig fauns, and ostriches will live in it. And it will no longer be inhabited, even in perpetuity, nor will it be raised up, even from generation to generation.40Como cuando Dios destruyó a Sodoma y Gomorra y las ciudades vecinas, dice Yahvé, no habitará hombre allí, ni morará en ella hijo de hombre. Just as the Lord overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and their neighboring towns, says the Lord, no man will live there, and a son of man will not tend it.41He aquí que viene del Norte un pueblo; una nación grande y reyes poderosos; se alzan desde los extremos del orbe, Behold, a people arrives from the north, and a great nation. And many kings will rise up from the ends of the earth.42empuñan el arco y el venablo, son crueles y sin piedad, sus voces son como el mar que brama, montan caballos y vienen armados como guerreros contra ti, oh hija de Babilonia. They will take up the bow and the shield. They are cruel and merciless. Their voice will sound out, like the sea, and they will ride upon horses, like a man prepared for battle against you, O daughter of Babylon.43El rey de Babel oye la noticia, y se le debilitan los brazos; le sobrevienen angustias y dolores como de parturienta. The king of Babylon has heard the report about them, and his hands have been weakened. Anguish has overtaken him, like the pains of a woman giving birth.44He aquí que sube como león de los boscajes del Jordán a los pastos de perenne verdor. Pero lo expulsaré de allí en un momento, y estableceré sobre él a quien Yo escogiere. Porque ¿quién hay como Yo, y quién me pedirá cuenta? ¿O quién es el pastor que pueda enfrentarse conmigo?” Behold, he will ascend like a lion from the arrogance of the Jordan to the robust beauty. For I will cause him to rush upon her suddenly. And who will be the elect one, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who can endure me? And who is that pastor who can withstand my countenance?”45Por eso, oíd el designio que Yahvé ha tomado contra Babel, y los planes que ha trazado contra el país de los caldeos. Serán arrastrados hasta los endebles del rebaño y será devastado el pastizal juntamente con ellos. Because of this, listen to the counsel of the Lord, which he has conceived in his mind against Babylon, and to his thoughts, which he has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: “Certainly the little ones of the flocks will pull them down, unless their habitation will have been destroyed with them.46A la noticia de la conquista de Babilonia, temblará la tierra, darán alaridos las naciones. At the voice of the captivity of Babylon, the earth has been moved, and an outcry has been heard among the nations.”
