Juan 1

1En el principio el Verbo era, y el Verbo era junto a Dios, y el Verbo era Dios. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.2Él era, en el principio, junto a Dios: He was with God in the beginning.3Por Él, todo fue hecho, y sin Él nada se hizo de lo que ha sido hecho. All things were made through Him, and nothing that was made was made without Him.4En Él era la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres. Life was in Him, and Life was the light of men.5Y la luz luce en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la recibieron. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.6Apareció un hombre, enviado de Dios, que se llamaba Juan. There was a man sent by God, whose name was John.7Él vino como testigo, para dar testimonio acerca de la luz, a fin de que todos creyesen por Él. He arrived as a witness to offer testimony about the Light, so that all would believe through him.8Él no era la luz, sino para dar testimonio acerca de la luz. He was not the Light, but he was to offer testimony about the Light.9La verdadera luz, la que alumbra a todo hombre, venía a este mundo. The true Light, which illuminates every man, was coming into this world.10Él estaba en el mundo; por Él, el mundo había sido hecho, y el mundo no lo conoció. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not recognize him.11Él vino a lo suyo, y los suyos no lo recibieron. He went to his own, and his own did not accept him.12Pero a todos los que lo recibieron, les dio el poder de llegar a ser hijos de Dios: a los que creen en su nombre. Yet whoever did accept him, those who believed in his name, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.13Los cuales no han nacido de la sangre, ni del deseo de la carne, ni de voluntad de varón, sino de Dios. These are born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.14Y el Verbo se hizo carne, y puso su morada entre nosotros —y nosotros vimos su gloria, gloria como del Unigénito del Padre— lleno de gracia y de verdad. And the Word became flesh, and he lived among us, and we saw his glory, glory like that of an only-begotten Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.15Juan da testimonio de él, y clama: “De Este dije yo: El que viene después de mí, se me ha adelantado porque Él existía antes que yo”. John offers testimony about him, and he cries out, saying: “This is the one about whom I said: ‘He who is to come after me, has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’ ”16Y de su plenitud hemos recibido todos, a saber, una gracia correspondiente a su gracia. And from his fullness, we all have received, even grace for grace.17Porque la Ley fue dada por Moisés, pero la gracia y la verdad han venido por Jesucristo. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.18Nadie ha visto jamás a Dios; el Dios, Hijo único, que es en el seno del Padre, Ese le ha dado a conocer. No one ever saw God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he himself has described him.19Y he aquí el testimonio de Juan, cuando los judíos enviaron a él, desde Jerusalén, sacerdotes y levitas para preguntarle: “¿Quién eres tú?”. And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him, so that they might ask him, “Who are you?”20Él confesó y no negó; y confesó: “Yo no soy el Cristo”. And he confessed it and did not deny it; and what he confessed was: “I am not the Christ.”21Le preguntaron: “¿Entonces qué?¿Eres tú Elías?” Dijo: “No lo soy”. “¿Eres el Profeta?” Respondió: “No”. And they questioned him: “Then what are you? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”22Le dijeron entonces: “¿Quién eres tú? para que demos una respuesta a los que nos han enviado. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?” Therefore, they said to him: “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”23Él dijo: “Yo soy la voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijo el profeta Isaías”. He said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”24Había también enviados de entre los fariseos. And some of those who had been sent were from among the Pharisees.25Ellos le preguntaron: “¿Por qué, pues, bautizas, si no eres ni el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el Profeta?” And they questioned him and said to him, “Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the Prophet?”26Juan les respondió: “Yo, por mi parte, bautizo con agua; pero en medio de vosotros está uno que vosotros no conocéis, John answered them by saying: “I baptize with water. But in your midst stands one, whom you do not know.27que viene después de mí, y al cual yo no soy digno de desatar la correa de su sandalia”. The same is he who is to come after me, who has been placed ahead of me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen.”28Esto sucedió en Betania, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan bautizaba. These things happened in Bethania, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.29Al día siguiente vio a Jesús que venía hacia él, y dijo: “He aquí el cordero de Dios, que lleva el pecado del mundo. On the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him, and so he said: “Behold, the Lamb of God. Behold, he who takes away the sin of the world.30Este es Aquel de quien yo dije: En pos de mí viene un varón que me ha tomado la delantera, porque Él existía antes que yo. This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me arrives a man, who has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’31Yo no lo conocía, mas yo vine a bautizar en agua, para que Él sea manifestado a Israel”. And I did not know him. Yet it is for this reason that I come baptizing with water: so that he may be made manifest in Israel.”32Y Juan dio testimonio, diciendo: “He visto al Espíritu descender como paloma del cielo, y se posó sobre Él. And John offered testimony, saying: “For I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove; and he remained upon him.33Ahora bien, yo no lo conocía, pero Él que me envió a bautizar con agua, me había dicho: “Aquel sobre quien vieres descender el Espíritu y posarse sobre Él, Ese es el que bautiza en Espíritu Santo”. And I did not know him. But he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: ‘He over whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’34Y bien: he visto, y testifico que Él es el Hijo de Dios”. And I saw, and I gave testimony: that this one is the Son of God.”35Al día siguiente, Juan estaba otra vez allí, como también dos de sus discípulos; The next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples.36y fijando su mirada sobre Jesús que pasaba, dijo: “He aquí el Cordero de Dios”. And catching sight of Jesus walking, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”37Los dos discípulos, oyéndolo hablar (así), siguieron a Jesús. And two disciples were listening to him speaking. And they followed Jesus.38Jesús, volviéndose y viendo que lo seguían, les dijo: “¿Qué queréis?” Le dijeron: Rabí, —que se traduce: Maestro—, ¿dónde moras?” Then Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi (which means in translation, Teacher), where do you live?”39Él les dijo: “Venid y veréis”. Fueron entonces y vieron dónde moraba, y se quedaron con Él ese día. Esto pasaba alrededor de la hora décima. He said to them, “Come and see.” They went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about the tenth hour.40Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de los dos que habían oído (la palabra ) de Juan y que habían seguido (a Jesús). And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard about him from John and had followed him.41Él encontró primero a su hermano Simón y le dijo: “Hemos hallado al Mesías —que se traduce: “Cristo”. First, he found his brother Simon, and he said to him, “We have found the Messiah,” (which is translated as the Christ).42Lo condujo a Jesús, y Jesús poniendo sus ojos en él, dijo: “Tú eres Simón, hijo de Juan: tú te llamarás Kefas —que se traduce: Pedro”. And he led him to Jesus. And Jesus, gazing at him, said: “You are Simon, son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas,” (which is translated as Peter).43Al día siguiente resolvió partir para Galilea. Encontró a Felipe y le dijo: “Sígueme”. On the next day, he wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”44Era Felipe de Betsaida, la ciudad de Andrés y Pedro. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.45Felipe encontró a Natanael y le dijo: “A Aquel de quien Moisés habló en la Ley, y también los profetas, lo hemos encontrado: es Jesús, hijo de José, de Nazaret”. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”46Natanael le replicó: “¿De Nazaret puede salir algo bueno?” Felipe le dijo: “Ven y ve”. And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”47Jesús vio a Natanael que se le acercaba, y dijo de él: “He aquí, en verdad, un israelita sin doblez”. Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and he said about him, “Behold, an Israelite in whom truly there is no deceit.”48Díjole Natanael: “¿De dónde me conoces?” Jesús le respondió: “Antes de que Felipe te llamase, cuando estabas bajo la higuera te vi”. Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus responded and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”49Natanael le dijo: “Rabí, Tú eres el Hijo de Dios, Tú eres el Rey de Israel”. Nathanael answered him and said: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”50Jesús le respondió: “Porque te dije que te vi debajo de la higuera, crees. Verás todavía más”. Jesus responded and said to him: “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. Greater things than these, you will see.”51Y le dijo: “En verdad, en verdad os digo: Veréis el cielo abierto y a los ángeles de Dios que suben y descienden sobre el Hijo del hombre”. And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the Angels of God ascending and descending over the Son of man.”
