1Cuando el Señor supo que los fariseos estaban informados de que Jesús hacía más discípulos y bautizaba más que Juan — And so, when Jesus realized that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made more disciples and baptized more than John,2aunque Jesús mismo no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos— (though Jesus himself was not baptizing, but only his disciples)3abandonó la Judea y se volvió a Galilea. he left behind Judea, and he traveled again to Galilee.4Debía, pues, pasar por Samaria. Therefore, he went into a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the estate which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.6Allí se encuentra el pozo de Jacob. And so Jesus, being tired from the journey, was sitting in a certain way on the well. It was about the sixth hour.7Vino una mujer de Samaria a sacar agua. Jesús le dijo: “Dame de beber”. A woman of Samaria arrived to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me to drink.”8Entretanto, sus discípulos se habían ido a la ciudad a comprar víveres. For his disciples had gone into the city in order to buy food.9Entonces la samaritana le dijo: “¿Cómo Tú, judío, me pides de beber a mí que soy mujer samaritana?” Porque los judíos no tienen comunicación con los samaritanos. And so, that Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, are requesting a drink from me, though I am a Samaritan woman?” For the Jews do not associate with the Samaritans.10Jesús le respondió y dijo: “Si tú conocieras el don de Dios, y quien es el que te dice: «Dame de beber», quizá tú le hubieras pedido a Él, y Él te habría dado agua viva”. Jesus responded and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give me to drink,’ perhaps you would have made a request of him, and he would have given you living water.”11Ella le dijo: “Señor, Tú no tienes con qué sacar, y el pozo es hondo; ¿de dónde entonces tienes esa agua viva? The woman said to him: “Lord, you do not have anything with which to draw water, and the well is deep. From where, then, do you have living water?12Acaso eres Tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio este pozo, del cual bebió él mismo, y sus hijos y sus ganados?” Surely, you are not greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and who drank from it, with his sons and his cattle?”13Respondiole Jesús: “Todos los que beben de esta agua, tendrán de nuevo sed; Jesus responded and said to her: “All who drink from this water will thirst again. But whoever shall drink from the water that I will give to him will not thirst for eternity.14mas quien beba el agua que Yo le daré, no tendrá sed nunca, sino que el agua que Yo le daré se hará en él fuente de agua surgente para vida eterna”. Instead, the water that I will give to him will become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.”15Díjole la mujer: “Señor, dame esa agua, para que no tenga más sed, ni tenga más que venir a sacar agua”. The woman said to him, “Lord, give me this water, so that I may not thirst and may not come here to draw water.”16Él le dijo: “Ve a buscar a tu marido, y vuelve aquí”. Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and return here.”17Replicole la mujer y dijo: “No tengo marido”. Jesús le dijo: “Bien has dicho: «No tengo marido»; The woman responded and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her: “You have spoken well, in saying, ‘I have no husband.’18porque cinco maridos has tenido, y el hombre que ahora tienes, no es tu marido; has dicho la verdad”. For you have had five husbands, but he whom you have now is not your husband. You have spoken this in truth.”19Díjole la mujer: “Señor, veo que eres profeta. The woman said to him: “Lord, I see that you are a Prophet.20Nuestros padres adoraron sobre este monte; según vosotros, en Jerusalén está el lugar donde se debe adorar”. Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”21Jesús le respondió: “Mujer, créeme a Mí, porque viene la hora, en que ni sobre este monte ni en Jerusalén adoraréis al Padre. Jesus said to her: “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you shall worship the Father, neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem.22Vosotros, adoráis lo que no conocéis; nosotros adoramos lo que conocemos, porque la salvación viene de los judíos. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know. For salvation is from the Jews.23Pero la hora viene, y ya ha llegado, en que los adoradores verdaderos adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad; porque también el Padre desea que los que adoran sean tales. But the hour is coming, and it is now, when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeks such persons who may worship him.24Dios es espíritu, y los que lo adoran, deben adorarlo en espíritu y en verdad”. God is Spirit. And so, those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”25Díjole la mujer: “Yo sé que el Mesías —es decir el Cristo— ha de venir. Cuando Él venga, nos instruirá en todo”. The woman said to him: “I know that the Messiah is coming (who is called the Christ). And then, when he will have arrived, he will announce everything to us.”26Jesús le dijo: “Yo lo soy. Yo que te hablo”. Jesus said to her: “I am he, the one who is speaking with you.”27En este momento llegaron los discípulos, y quedaron admirados de que hablase con una mujer. Ninguno, sin embargo, le dijo: “¿Qué preguntas?” o “¿Qué hablas con ella?” And then his disciples arrived. And they wondered that he was speaking with the woman. Yet no one said: “What are you seeking?” or, “Why are you talking with her?”28Entonces la mujer, dejando su cántaro, se fue a la ciudad, y dijo a los hombres: And so the woman left behind her water jar and went into the city. Meanwhile, the disciples petitioned him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”32Pero Él les dijo: “Yo tengo un manjar para comer, que vosotros no conocéis”. But he said to them, “I have food to eat which you do not know.”33Y los discípulos se decían entre ellos: “¿Alguien le habrá traído de comer?” Therefore, the disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought him something to eat?”34Mas Jesús les dijo: “Mi alimento es hacer la voluntad de Aquel que me envió y dar cumplimiento a su obra. Jesus said to them: “My food is to do the will of the One who sent me, so that I may perfect his work.35¿No decís vosotros: Todavía cuatro meses, y viene la siega? Y bien, Yo os digo: Levantad vuestros ojos, y mirad los campos, que ya están blancos para la siega. Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then the harvest arrives?’ Behold, I say to you: Lift up your eyes and look at the countryside; for it is already ripe for the harvest.36El que siega, recibe su recompensa y recoge la mies para la vida eterna, para que el que siembra se regocije al mismo tiempo que el que siega. For he who reaps, receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.37Pues en esto se verifica el proverbio: «Uno es el que siembra, otro el que siega». For in this the word is true: that it is one who sows, and it is another who reaps.38Yo os he enviado a cosechar lo que vosotros no habéis labrado. Otros labraron, y vosotros habéis entrado en (posesión del fruto de) sus trabajos”. I have sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”39Muchos de los samaritanos de aquella ciudad creyeron en Él por la palabra de la mujer que testificaba diciendo: “Él me ha dicho todo cuanto he hecho”. Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him, because of the word of the woman who was offering testimony: “For he told me all the things that I have done.”40Cuando los samaritanos vinieron a Él, le rogaron que se quedase con ellos; y se quedó allí dos días. Therefore, when the Samaritans had come to him, they petitioned him to lodge there. And he lodged there for two days.41Y muchos más creyeron a causa de su palabra, And many more believed in him, because of his own word.42y decían a la mujer: “Ya no creemos a causa de tus palabras; nosotros mismos lo hemos oído, y sabemos que Él es verdaderamente el Salvador del mundo”. And they said to the woman: “Now we believe, not because of your speech, but because we ourselves have heard him, and so we know that he is truly the Savior of the world.”43Pasados aquellos dos días, partió para Galilea. Then, after two days, he departed from there, and he traveled into Galilee.44Ahora bien, Jesús mismo atestiguó que ningún profeta es honrado en su patria. For Jesus himself offered testimony that a Prophet has no honor in his own country.45Cuando llegó a Galilea, fue recibido por los galileos, que habían visto todas las grandes cosas hechas por Él en Jerusalén durante la fiesta; porque ellos también habían ido a la fiesta. And so, when he had arrived in Galilee, the Galileans received him, because they had seen all that he had done at Jerusalem, in the day of the feast. For they also went to the feast day.46Fue, pues, otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Y había un cortesano cuyo hijo estaba enfermo en Cafarnaúm. Then he went again into Cana of Galilee, where he made water into wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capernaum.47Cuando él oyó que Jesús había vuelto de Judea a Galilea, se fue a encontrarlo, y le rogó que bajase para sanar a su hijo, porque estaba para morir. Since he had heard that Jesus came to Galilee from Judea, he sent to him and begged him to come down and heal his son. For he was beginning to die.48Jesús le dijo: “¡Si no veis signos y prodigios, no creeréis!”. Therefore, Jesus said to him, “Unless you have seen signs and wonders, you do not believe.”49Respondiole el cortesano: “Señor, baja antes que muera mi hijo”. The ruler said to him, “Lord, come down before my son dies.”50Jesús le dijo: “Ve, tu hijo vive”. Creyó este hombre a la palabra que le dijo Jesús y se puso en marcha. Jesus said to him, “Go, your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and so he went away.51Ya bajaba, cuando encontró a algunos de sus criados que le dijeron que su hijo vivía. Then, as he was going down, his servants met him. And they reported to him, saying that his son was alive.52Preguntoles, entonces, la hora en que se había puesto mejor. Y le respondieron: “Ayer, a la hora séptima, le dejó la fiebre”. Therefore, he asked them at which hour he had become better. And they said to him, “Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.”53Y el padre reconoció que esta misma era la hora en que Jesús le había dicho: “Tu hijo vive”. Y creyó él, y toda su casa. Then the father realized that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And both he and his entire household believed.54Este fue el segundo milagro que hizo Jesús vuelto de Judea a Galilea. This next sign was the second that Jesus accomplished, after he had arrived in Galilee from Judea.
