Job 22

1Entonces Elifaz temanita tomó la palabra y dijo: Then Eliphaz the Themanite responded by saying:2“¿Puede el hombre ser útil a Dios? Solo a sí mismo es útil el sabio. Can man be compared with God, even if he were perfect in knowledge?3¿Qué provecho tiene el Todopoderoso de que tú seas justo? ¿O qué ventaja, si son perfectos tus caminos? What advantage is it to God, if you were just? Or what do you provide for him, if your way should be immaculate?4¿Te castiga acaso por tu piedad, y entra en juicio contigo? Will he reprove you and take you to judgment for being afraid,5¿No es inmensa tu malicia, y no son innumerables tus maldades? and not because of your many evil deeds and your infinite unfairness?6Exigiste prendas a tus hermanos, sin justo motivo, y despojaste al desnudo de su ropa. For you have taken away the collateral of your brothers without cause, and stripped them naked of their clothing.7No diste agua al desfallecido, y al hambriento le negaste el pan, You have not given water to the weary; you have taken bread away from the hungry.8ya que el hombre de brazo (fuerte) ocupa la tierra, y se adueñan de ella los que gozan de privilegios. By the strength of your arm, you took possession of the land, and you retain it by being the strongest.9A las viudas las despachaste con las manos vacías, y rompiste los brazos al huérfano. You have sent widows away empty, and you have crushed the shoulders of orphans.10Por eso estás cercado de lazos, y te aterra de improviso el espanto. Because of this, you are surrounded by traps, and unexpected fears will disturb you.11(Te cubren) tinieblas y no puedes ver; te inundan aguas desbordadas. And did you think that you would not see darkness and that you were not to be overwhelmed by the onrush of overflowing waters?12¿No está Dios en lo alto del cielo? Mira las sublimes estrellas: ¡Qué altura! Have you not considered that God is higher than the heavens and is lifted above the height of the stars?13Y tú dices: «¿Qué sabe Dios? ¿acaso juzga a través de las nubes? And you say: “Well, what does God know?” and, “He judges, as if through a fog,”14Nubes espesas le envuelven y no puede ver; se pasea por el circuito del cielo.» and, “The clouds are his hiding-place,” and, “He does not examine us closely,” and, “He makes his rounds at the limits of the heavens.”15¿Quieres tú acaso seguir aquel antiguo camino, por donde marcharon los malvados? Do you not want to tend the path of the ages, which wicked men have spurned?16Fueron arrebatados antes de tiempo, y sobre sus cimientos se derramó un diluvio. These were taken away before their time, and a flood overthrew their foundation.17Decían a Dios: «¡Apártate de nosotros! ¿Qué podrá hacernos el Todopoderoso?» They said to God, “Withdraw from us,” and they treated the Almighty as if he could do nothing,18Y Él llenaba sus casas de bienes. ¡Lejos de mí el consejo de los impíos! though he had filled their houses with good things. May their way of thinking be far from me.19Los justos verán y se alegrarán (de su ruina), y los inocentes se reirán de ellos, The just will see and will rejoice, and the innocent will mock them.20(diciendo): «No ha sido aniquilada su fuerza, y sus restos consumidos por el fuego?» Has not their haughtiness been cut down, and has not fire devoured the remnants of them?21Reconcíliate con Él, y tendrás paz; así te vendrá la felicidad. So, repose yourself with him and be at peace, and, in this way, you will have the best fruits.22Recibe de su boca la Ley, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón. Accept the law from his mouth, and place his words in your heart.23Serás restablecido, si te convirtieres al Omnipotente, y apartas de tu tienda la iniquidad. If you will return to the Almighty, you will be rebuilt, and you will put sinfulness far from your tabernacle.24Echa al polvo el oro, y entre los guijarros del arroyo (los tesoros de) Ofir; He will give you stone in place of dirt, and torrents of gold in place of stone.25y será el Todopoderoso tu tesoro, y caudal de plata para ti. And the Almighty will be against your enemies, and silver will be gathered together for you.26Entonces te gozarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás tu rostro hacia Dios. Then will you flock together in delight over the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.27Le rogarás, y Él te escuchará; y tú le cumplirás tus votos. You will plead with him, and he will listen to you, and you will pay your vows.28Si proyectas una cosa, te saldrá bien, y sobre tus caminos brillará la luz. You will decide on something, and it will come to you, and the light will shine in your ways.29Si te abaten, podrás decir: «¡Arriba!» pues Él salva a los que humildemente bajan los ojos. For he who had been humbled, will be in glory; and he who will lower his eyes, will be the one saved.30Se salvará el inocente, será librado por la pureza de sus manos.” The innocent will be saved, and he will be saved with purity in his hands.
