Job 6
1Respondió Job y dijo: But Job, responding, said:2“¡Oh! ¡Si pudiera pesarse mi aflicción, ponerse en balanza toda mi calamidad! I wish that my sins, for which I deserve wrath, and the calamity that I endure, were weighed out on a balance.3Pesarían más que la arena del mar. Por eso mis palabras son sin moderación. Compared to the sand of the sea, they would appear heavier, and so my words are full of sorrow.4Pues las saetas del Omnipotente se han clavado en mí, y mi espíritu bebe su veneno; los terrores de Dios me combaten. For the arrows of the Lord are in me, my spirit drinks of their indignation, and the terrors of the Lord are soldiers against me.5¿Acaso el asno montés rebuzna teniendo hierba? ¿muge el buey si tiene su forraje? Will the wild ass bray when he has grass? Or will the ox bellow when he stands before a full manger?6¿Acaso se puede comer un manjar insípido, sin sal, o gustar el jugo de plantas sin sabor? Or can one eat bland food, which is not seasoned with salt? Or can anyone taste that which, if tasted, causes death?7Las cosas que mi alma rehúsa tocar, son mi repugnante comida. The things that my soul was unwilling to touch before, now, because of anguish, are my foods.8¡Ojalá que se cumpliese mi petición! y que Dios me diera lo que deseo: Who will grant that my petition may arrive and that God may bestow on me what I expect,9que quiera Dios acabar conmigo, que soltara su mano para cortarme (la vida). and that he who, at first, had crushed me, will let loose his hand and cut me down?10Entonces me quedaría al menos este consuelo, —y por eso brincaría de gozo aunque Él me aplasta— que no he traspasado las palabras del Santo. And may this be my consolation, that in afflicting me with sorrow, although he might not be lenient with me, I still do not contradict the words of the Holy One.11Pero ¿cuál es mi fuerza para esperar todavía, y cuál mi fin, para tener aún paciencia? For what is my strength, that I may continue? Or what is my goal, so that I may act patiently?12¿Es acaso mi fuerza la de las piedras; o es de bronce mi carne? My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh made of bronze.13¿No estoy privado de toda ayuda? ¿No se ha apartado de mí todo auxilio? Behold, there is no help for me in myself, and my loved ones also have withdrawn from me.14El abatido tiene derecho a la compasión de su amigo, a menos que este abandone el temor del Omnipotente. He who takes away mercy from his friend, abandons the fear of the Lord.15Mis hermanos son falaces como un arroyo seco, pasan como las aguas torrenciales, My brethren have disregarded me, like a torrent that passes swiftly through the steep valleys.16turbias a causa del hielo y de la nieve que en ellas se oculta; Those who fear frost, snow will rush over them.17cuando viene el calor desaparecen; a los (primeros) calores su cauce se seca; At that time, when they are scattered, they will perish, and when it becomes hot, they will be freed from their place.18se pierden en el curso de su camino, se evaporan y perecen. The paths of their steps are entangled; they will walk in vain and will perish.19Las caravanas de Temá van en su busca, suspiran por ellas los mercaderes de Sabá; Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.20más su esperanza será frustrada, llegados a ellas quedan defraudados. They have been thrown into confusion, just as I had hoped; they have even come to me and are overwhelmed with shame.21Así sois ahora vosotros para mí; os espantáis, viendo mis males. Now you have arrived, and merely by seeing my affliction, you are afraid.22¿Acaso os he pedido: “Dadme algo; dejadme participar de vuestros bienes.” Did I say: “Bring to me and give to me from your necessities?”23O bien: “Libradme del enemigo, salvadme del poder del opresor”? or, “Free me from the hand of the enemy and rescue me from the hand of the strong?”24Enseñadme, y yo callaré; explicadme en qué he errado. Teach me, and I will be silent, and if by chance I have been ignorant of anything, instruct me.25¡Qué fuerza tienen las palabras rectas! pero ¿a qué viene vuestra censura? Why have you diminished the words of truth, when there is none of you who is able to offer proof against me?26¿Pensáis acaso en censurar palabras? Las palabras de un desesperado ¿no son como viento? You prepare speeches as so much noise, and you offer words into the wind.27¡Oh! vosotros tendéis (un lazo) sobre el huérfano, y caváis (una fosa) a vuestro amigo. You encroach upon the orphan, and you strive to undermine your friend.28Ahora volveos, por favor, hacia mí, porque (juro) ante vosotros que no voy a mentiros en vuestra cara. Such is true, so finish what you have begun. Listen closely, and see if I lie.29¡Reparad, os ruego; no seáis injustos! Reflexionad de nuevo, y mi inocencia se hará manifiesta. Respond, I beg you, without contention, and, speaking what is just, pass judgment.30¿Hay acaso en mi lengua iniquidad? ¿Puede mi paladar ya no distinguir la maldad? And you will not find iniquity on my tongue, nor will foolishness resound in my throat.
