Job 7
1Milicia es la vida del hombre sobre la tierra; como los del jornalero son sus días. The life of a man on the earth is a battle, and his days are like the days of a hired hand.2Como el siervo suspira por la sombra, y como el jornalero espera su salario; Just as a servant desires the shade, and just as the hired hand looks forward to the end of his work,3así heredé meses de calamidad, y noches de dolor me tocaron en suerte. so also have I had empty months and have counted my burdensome nights.4Si me acuesto, digo: “¿Cuándo me levantaré?” Mas la noche es larga, y me canso, dándome vuelta hasta el alba. If I lie down to sleep, I will say, “When will I rise?” And next I will hope for the evening and will be filled with sorrows even until darkness.5Mi carne está cubierta de gusanos y de una costra de barro; mi piel se rompe y se deshace. My flesh is clothed with particles of rottenness and filth; my skin is dried up and tightened.6Mis días pasan más ligeros que la lanzadera, y desaparecen sin esperanza. My days have passed by more quickly than threads are cut by a weaver, and they have been consumed without any hope.7Acuérdate de que mi vida es un soplo; mis ojos ya no verán la felicidad. Remember that my life is wind, and my eye will not return to see good things.8No me verá más el ojo del que ahora me ve; apenas tus ojos me ven, y ya no subsisto. Neither will the sight of man gaze upon me; your eyes are upon me, and I will not endure.9La nube se disipa y pasa; así no sube más el que desciende al sepulcro. Just as a cloud is consumed and passes away, so he who descends to hell will not ascend.10No volverá más a su casa, ni le reconocerá su lugar. He will not return again to his house, nor will his own place know him any longer.11Por eso, no refrenaré mi lengua, hablaré en la angustia de mi espíritu, me quejaré en la amargura de mi alma. And because of this, I will not restrain my mouth. I will speak in the affliction of my spirit. I will converse from the bitterness of my soul.12¿Soy yo el mar, o algún monstruo marino, para que me tengas encerrado con guardias? Am I an ocean or a whale, that you have encircled me in a prison?13Cuando digo: Mi lecho me consolará, mi cama aliviará mi pesar, If I say, “My bed will comfort me, and I will find rest, speaking with myself on my blanket,”14entonces me aterras con sueños, y me espantas con visiones. then you will frighten me with dreams, and strike dread through visions,15Por eso prefiero ser ahogado, deseo la muerte para estos mis huesos. so that, because of these things, my soul would choose hanging, and my bones, death.16Tengo asco; no quiero vivir más; déjame, ya que mi vida es un soplo. I despair; by no means will I live any longer. Spare me, for my days are nothing.17¿Qué es el hombre, para que tanto le estimes, y fijes en él tu atención, What is man, that you should praise him? Or why do you place your heart near him?18para que le visites cada mañana, y a cada momento le pruebes? You visit him at dawn, and you test him unexpectedly.19¿Cuándo cesarás de mirarme, y me das tiempo para tragar mi saliva? How long will you not spare me, nor release me to ingest my saliva?20Si he pecado, ¿qué te he hecho con eso, oh Guardador de los hombres? ¿Por qué me pones por blanco a mí, que soy una carga para mí mismo? I have sinned; what should I do for you, O keeper of men? Why have you set me against you, so that I have become burdensome even to myself?21¿Por qué no perdonas mi pecado ni borras mi iniquidad? Pues pronto me dormiré en el polvo; y si me buscas, ya no existiré.” Why do you not steal away my sin, and why do you not sweep away my iniquity? Behold, now I will sleep in the dust, and if you seek me in the morning, I will not remain.
