Job 9
1Respondió Job y dijo: And Job, responding, said:2“Bien sé que es así. ¿Cómo puede el hombre ser justo frente a Dios? Truly, I know that it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.3Si pretendiera contender con él, de mil (cargos) no respondería a uno solo. If he chooses to contend with him, he is not able to respond to him once out of a thousand times.4Él es sabio de corazón, poderoso y fuerte; ¿quién se le opuso y le salió bien? He is understanding in heart and mighty in strength; who has resisted him and yet had peace?5Él traslada los montes, sin que sepan quién los trastorna en su ira. He has moved mountains, and those whom he overthrew in his fury did not know it.6Él remueve la tierra de su sitio, y sus columnas son sacudidas. He shakes the earth out of its place and its pillars tremble.7Él manda al sol, y este no sale, y encierra bajo sello las estrellas. He commands the sun and it does not rise, and he closes the stars as if under a seal.8Él solo extiende los cielos, y anda sobre las olas del mar. He alone extends the heavens, and he walks upon the waves of the sea.9Él hizo la Osa, el Orión y las Pléyades, las constelaciones del cielo austral. He fashions Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the interior of the south.10Él hace cosas grandes e insondables, y maravillas sin cuento y número. He accomplishes great and incomprehensible and miraculous things, which cannot be numbered.11He aquí que pasa junto a mí, y yo no le veo; y si se retira, tampoco lo advierto. If he approaches me, I will not see him; if he departs, I will not understand.12Si Él toma una presa ¿quién hará que la devuelva? ¿quién podrá decirle: «¿Qué es lo que haces?» If he suddenly should question, who will answer him? Or who can say, “Why did you do so?”13Él es Dios, no hay quien pueda doblegar su ira; debajo de Él se encorvan los auxiliares de Rahab. God, whose wrath no one is able to resist, and under whom they bend who carry the world,14¿Cuánto menos podré yo responderle, elegir mis palabras frente a Él? what am I then, that I should answer him and exchange words with him?15Aun teniendo yo razón, nada le respondería; imploraría la clemencia del que me juzga. And if I now have any justice, I will not respond, but will beseech my judge.16Aun cuando respondiera a mis clamores, no creería que había escuchado mi voz, And if he should listen to me when I call, I would not believe that he had heard my voice.17Él, que me aplasta con un torbellino, y multiplica mis llagas sin causa. For he will crush me in a whirlwind and multiply my wounds, even without cause.18No me deja respirar y me harta de amargura. He does not permit my spirit to rest, and he fills me with bitterness.19Si se trata de fuerza, el poderoso es Él, y si de justicia (dice): «¿Quién me emplazará?» If strength is sought, he is most strong; if equity in judgment, no one would dare to give testimony for me.20Aun cuando yo tuviera razón mi boca me condenaría, aunque fuera inocente, me declararía culpable. If I wanted to justify myself, my own mouth will condemn me; if I would reveal my innocence, he would prove me depraved.21Soy inocente, pero no me importa mi existencia, no hago caso de mi vida. And if I now became simple, my soul would be ignorant even of this, and my life would weary me.22Es todo lo mismo; por eso he dicho: «Él acaba con el inocente como con el impío.» There is one thing that I have said: both the innocent and the impious he consumes.23¡Si al menos el azote matase de repente! Él se ríe de la prueba de los inocentes. If he scourges, let him kill all at once, and not laugh at the punishment of the innocent.24La tierra ha sido entregada en manos de los malvados; Él mismo tapa el rostro de sus jueces. Si no es Él, ¿quién lo será? Since the earth has been given into the hand of the impious, he covers the face of its judges; for if it is not him, then who is it?25Mis días pasaron más veloces que un correo, huyen sin ver cosa buena; My days have been swifter than a messenger; they have fled and have not seen goodness.26pasan como las naves de junco, cual águila que se arroja sobre la presa. They have passed by like ships carrying fruits, just like an eagle flying to food.27Si digo: «Olvidaré mis quejas, voy a mudar mi semblante, y me regocijaré», If I say: “By no means will I speak this way.” I change my face and I am tortured with sorrow.28me espantan todos mis dolores, pues sé que Tú no me declaras inocente. I have dreaded all my works, knowing that you did not spare the offender.29Y si soy juzgado culpable, ¿por qué fatigarme en vano? Yet, if I am also just as impious, why have I labored in vain?30Aunque me lavara con agua de nieve, y con lejía limpiara mis manos, If I had been washed with snow-like waters, and my hands were shining like the cleanest thing,31Tú me sumergirías en el fango, y hasta mis vestidos me darían asco. yet you would plunge me in filth, and my own garments would abhor me.32Porque Él no es un hombre como yo, a quien se pudiera decir: «¡Vamos juntos a juicio!» For even I would not answer a man who were like myself, nor one who could be heard with me equally in judgment.33No hay entre nosotros árbitro que ponga la mano sobre entrambos. There is no one who could both prevail in argument and in placing his hand between the two.34Aparte Él de mí su vara, y no me espante su terror: Let him take his staff away from me, and let not the fear of him terrify me.35entonces hablaré, sin tenerle miedo, porque así como estoy, no me conozco a mí mismo.” I will speak and I will not fear him, for in fearfulness I am not able to respond.
