Josué 14

¹He aquí los territorios que los hijos de Israel tomaron en posesión en el país de Canaán. Se los dieron como porción el sacerdote Eleazar, Josué, hijo de Nun, y las cabezas de las casas paternas de las tribus de los hijos de Israel. This is what the sons of Israel possessed in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the leaders of the families, by the tribes of Israel, gave to them,²Las nueve tribus y media recibieron su porción por la suerte, como Yahvé había ordenado por boca de Moisés. dividing all by lot, just as the Lord had instructed by the hand of Moses, to the nine tribes and to the one half tribe.³Porque Moisés había ya dado su porción a las dos tribus y media al otro lado del Jordán; mas a los levitas no les dio porción alguna en medio de ellos. For to the two and one half tribes, Moses had given a possession beyond the Jordan, aside from the Levites, who received no land among their brothers.⁴Los hijos de José formaban dos tribus, Manasés y Efraím; y no se les dio parte a los levitas en el país, fuera de las ciudades de su habitación con los ejidos para sus ganados y su hacienda. For by succession, the sons of Joseph, in their place, were divided into two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. But the Levites did not receive another portion of land, except cities in which to live, and their suburbs, so as to feed their beasts of burden and cattle.⁵Así como Yahvé había mandado a Moisés, así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel cuando repartieron el país. Just as the Lord had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did, and they divided the land.⁶Cuando los hijos de Judá se acercaron a Josué en Gálgala, le dijo Caleb, hijo de Jefone, el ceniceo: “Tú sabes lo que Yahvé dijo a Moisés, varón de Dios, respecto de mí y de ti en Cadesbarnea. And so, the sons of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb, the son of Jephone, the Kenizzite, spoke to him: “You know what the Lord said to Moses, the man of God, at Kadesh-barnea, about me and you.⁷Tenía yo cuarenta años cuando Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, me envió desde Cadesbarnea a explorar el país, y yo le referí lo que tenía en mi corazón. I was forty years old when Moses, the servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh-barnea, so that I might consider the land. And I reported to him what seemed to me to be true.⁸Mis hermanos que conmigo habían subido desanimaron al pueblo, pero yo seguí fielmente a Yahvé, mi Dios. But my brothers, who had ascended with me, broke the heart of the people. And I nevertheless followed the Lord my God.⁹En aquel día juró Moisés, diciendo: «La tierra que tu pie ha pisado será porción tuya y de tus hijos para siempre; por cuanto has seguido fielmente a Yahvé, mi Dios». And Moses swore, on that day, saying: ‘The land that your foot has tread upon shall be your possession, and that of your sons, unto eternity. For you have followed the Lord my God.’¹⁰Y ahora, he aquí que Yahvé me ha conservado la vida, como lo prometió, durante los cuarenta y cinco años, desde que Yahvé dijo esta palabra a Moisés cuando Israel andaba por el desierto. La fuerza que tenía entonces la tengo todavía hoy, para luchar, para salir y para entrar. being just as strong as I was at that time, when I was sent to explore the land. The fortitude in me at that time continues even until today, as much to fight as to march.¹²Ahora bien, dame esta montaña de la cual habló Yahvé aquel día. Pues tú mismo oíste aquel día, que hay allí enaceos, con ciudades grandes y fortificadas. Quizá Yahvé esté conmigo, de manera que logre yo desposeerlos, como dijo Yahvé. Therefore, grant to me this mountain, which the Lord has promised in your hearing also, on which are the Anakim, and cities, great and fortified. Perhaps it may be that the Lord will be with me, and I will be able to destroy them, just as he promised to me.”¹³Entonces bendijo Josué a Caleb, hijo de Jefone, y le dio Hebrón por porción suya. And Joshua blessed him, and he delivered Hebron to him as a possession.¹⁴Por eso Hebrón vino a ser la porción de Caleb, hijo de Jefone, el ceniceo, hasta este día; por cuanto había seguido fielmente a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel. And from then on, Hebron was for Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, even to the present day. For he followed the Lord, the God of Israel.¹⁵Hebrón se llamaba antiguamente Kiryat Arba.
