Josué 4
1Cuando todo el pueblo hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán, habló Yahvé a Josué, diciendo: And when they had crossed over, the Lord said to Joshua:2“Tomaos de entre el pueblo doce hombres, uno de cada tribu, “Choose twelve men, one from each tribe,3y dadles esta orden: De ahí, de en medio del Jordán, del lugar donde se han parado los pies de los sacerdotes, tomad doce piedras, que llevaréis con vosotros para colocarlas en el lugar donde acampéis esta noche.” and instruct them so that they may take from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, where the feet of the priests stood still, twelve very hard stones, which you shall station in the place of the camp, where you will pitch your tents this night.”4Llamó Josué a los doce hombres que había elegido de entre los hijos de Israel, uno de cada tribu; And Joshua called twelve men, whom he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one from each tribe,5y les dijo: “Id al medio del Jordán, hasta donde está el Arca de Yahvé, vuestro Dios, y cada uno de vosotros cargue una piedra sobre su hombro, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel. and he said to them: “Go before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and let each one carry from there one stone on your shoulders, according to the number of the sons of Israel,6y sirva esto de señal en medio de vosotros. Cuando el día de mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos diciendo: ‘¿Qué significan para vosotros estas piedras?’, so that it may be a sign among you. And when your sons will ask you, tomorrow, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’7les responderéis: “Las aguas del Jordán se cortaron ante el Arca de la Alianza de Yahvé. Cuando ella pasó el Jordán, se partieron en dos las aguas del Jordán; y estas piedras han de ser un monumento sempiterno para los hijos de Israel.” you shall respond to them: ‘The waters of the Jordan failed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, when the ark crossed over it. For this reason, these stones were placed as a monument for the sons of Israel, even forever.’ ”8Los hijos de Israel lo hicieron así como Josué había ordenado. Tomaron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, como Yahvé lo había mandado a Josué, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel; y llevándolas consigo al lugar en que habían de acampar las asentaron allí. Therefore, the sons of Israel did as Joshua instructed them, carrying twelve stones from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, just as the Lord had ordered him, according to the number of the sons of Israel, as far as the place where they made camp, and there they stationed them.9Josué erigió también doce piedras en medio del Jordán, donde habían estado los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca de la Alianza, y allí han quedado hasta el día de hoy. Similarly, Joshua positioned another twelve stones in the middle of the channel of the Jordan, where the priests stood who were carrying the ark of the covenant; and they are there, even to the present day.10Los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca se habían quedado parados en medio del Jordán hasta el cumplimiento de todo lo que Yahvé había mandado a Josué que intimara al pueblo, conforme a cuanto Moisés había ordenado a Josué. Entretanto, el pueblo atravesó a toda prisa (el Jordán), Now the priests who were carrying the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was accomplished which the Lord had instructed Joshua to speak to the people and which Moses had said to him. And the people hurried, and they passed over.11y cuando todo el pueblo hubo acabado de pasar, pasó también el Arca de Yahvé juntamente con los sacerdotes, a vista del pueblo. And when they had all crossed, the ark of the Lord also crossed, and the priests advanced before the people.12Pasaron también armados al frente de los israelitas los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, según les había ordenado Moisés. Likewise, the sons of Reuben, and of Gad, and of the one half tribe of Manasseh advanced with weapons before the sons of Israel, just as Moses had instructed them.13Estos, unos cuarenta mil, armados para la guerra, pasaron delante de Yahvé a la batalla, a los llanos de Jericó. And forty thousand fighters, by companies and divisions, advanced through the plains and fields of the city of Jericho.14En aquel día Yahvé engrandeció a Josué a los ojos de todo Israel, de manera que le respetaron como habían respetado a Moisés, todos los días de su vida. In that day, the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel, so that they would fear him, just as they had feared Moses while he lived.15Yahvé habló entonces a Josué, diciendo: And he said to him,16“Manda a los sacerdotes que llevan el Arca del Testimonio, que suban del Jordán.” “Command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant to ascend from the Jordan.”17Mandó, pues, Josué a los sacerdotes, diciendo: “¡Subid del Jordán!” And he commanded them, saying, “Ascend from the Jordan.”18Y cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca de la Alianza de Yahvé, subieron de en medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes hubieron alcanzado la tierra seca, volvieron las aguas del Jordán a su lugar, desbordándose, como anteriormente, por todas sus riberas. And when those who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord had ascended, and they began to step on dry soil, the waters returned to their channel, and they flowed as they usually did before.19El pueblo salió del Jordán el día diez del mes primero, y acamparon en Gálgala, en la frontera oriental de Jericó. Now the people ascended from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal, opposite the eastern portion of the city of Jericho.20En Gálgala erigió Josué aquellas doce piedras sacadas del Jordán, Likewise, the twelve stones that they had taken up from the channel of the Jordan, Joshua stationed at Gilgal.21y habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: “Cuando el día de mañana vuestros hijos preguntaren a sus padres, diciendo: ¿Qué significan estas piedras?, And he said to the sons of Israel: “When your sons will question their fathers, tomorrow, and they will say to them, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’22instruiréis a vuestros hijos, y diréis: A pie enjuto pasó Israel este Jordán, you shall teach them, and you shall say: ‘Israel passed over this Jordan, through the dry channel.’23secando Yahvé, vuestro Dios, delante de vosotros las aguas del Jordán hasta que hubisteis pasado, como lo hizo Yahvé, vuestro Dios, con el Mar Rojo, al cual secó delante de nosotros, hasta que hubimos pasado; For the Lord your God dried up its waters in your sight, until you crossed over,24para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan que la mano de Yahvé es poderosa y vosotros temáis a Yahvé, vuestro Dios, en todo tiempo.” just as he had done before, at the Red Sea, which he dried up until we crossed over.
