1¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro! ¡Cómo el oro fino perdió su valor! Dispersas están las piedras del Santuario en las esquinas de todas las calles. ALEPH. O how the gold has become dulled, the finest color has been altered, the stones of the sanctuary have been scattered at the head of every street.2Los nobles hijos de Sión, estimados como oro puro, ¡cómo son tenidos por vasos de barro, obra de manos de alfarero! BETH. The famous sons of Zion, and those clothed with the foremost gold: how they have become like earthen vessels, the work of the hands of a potter.3Aun los chacales dan la teta y amamantan a sus cachorros; la hija de mi pueblo se muestra cruel como los avestruces del desierto. GHIMEL. Yet even savages expose their breast and give milk to their young. But the daughter of my people is cruel, like the ostrich in the desert.4La lengua del niño de pecho, de sed se pega al paladar; los pequeñuelos piden pan, y no hay quien se lo reparta. DALETH. The tongue of the infant adheres to his palate out of thirst. The little ones have asked for bread, and there was no one to break it for them.5Los que comían manjares delicados, perecen por las calles; abrazan el estiércol los que se criaron entre púrpura. HE. Those who were fed indulgently have passed away in the roads. Those who were nourished with saffron have welcomed filth.6La maldad de la hija de mi pueblo es mayor que el pecado de Sodoma, que fue destruida en un momento, sin que nadie pusiera en ella la mano. VAU. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people has been made greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and yet hands did not take captives in her.7Brillaban sus príncipes más que la nieve, eran más blancos que la leche, y sus cuerpos más rojos que el coral; un zafiro era su talle. ZAIN. Her Nazirites were whiter than snow, shinier than milk, more ruddy than ancient ivory, more beautiful than sapphire.8Ahora su aspecto es más oscuro que la misma oscuridad; no se los reconoce en las calles; su piel se les pega a los huesos, seca como un palo. HETH. Their face has been blacked more than coals, and they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has adhered to their bones; it dried out and became like wood.9Más dichosos son los traspasados por la espada que los muertos de hambre, que mueren extenuados por falta de los frutos del campo. TETH. It was better for those slain by the sword, than for those put to death by famine. For these waste away, being consumed by the sterility of the land.10Las manos de las mujeres, de suyo, compasivas, cuecen a sus propios hijos; les sirven de comida entre las ruinas de la hija de mi pueblo. JOD. The hands of pitiable women have boiled their sons. They became their food in the grief of the daughter of my people.11Yahvé ha apurado su furor, derramando su ardiente ira; encendió en Sión un fuego que ha devorado sus fundamentos. CAPH. The Lord has completed his fury; he has poured out the wrath of his indignation. And he has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has devoured its foundations.12No creían los reyes de la tierra, ni cuantos habitan el orbe, que el adversario, el enemigo, entraría por las puertas de Jerusalén. LAMED. The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, did not believe that the adversary and the enemy would enter through the gates of Jerusalem.13(Entraron en ella) a causa de los pecados de sus profetas, y de las culpas de sus sacerdotes, que en medio de ella derramaron la sangre de los justos. MEM. It is because of the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, who have shed the blood of the just in her midst.14Erraban por las calles, como ciegos manchados de sangre, y no se podía tocar sus vestidos. NUN. They have wandered in the streets like the blind; they have been defiled with blood. And when they were not able, they held their garments.15¡Apartaos! ¡Un inmundo!, les gritaban. ¡Apartaos, apartaos! ¡No toquéis! Cuando huyendo vagaron errantes, los paganos decían: “No han de demorar (entre nosotros).” SAMECH. “Go back, you polluted ones!” they cried out to them. “Go back, go away, do not touch!” Of course, they argued, and being removed, they said among the Gentiles, “He will no longer dwell among them.”16El rostro de Yahvé los ha dispersado, no volverá a mirarlos, pues no respetaban a los sacerdotes, y nadie se compadecía de los ancianos. PHE. The face of the Lord has divided them. He will no longer respect them. They were not ashamed before the faces of the priests, nor did they take pity on the elderly.17Nuestros ojos desfallecían esperando en vano nuestro socorro; desde nuestra atalaya buscábamos con nuestras miradas un pueblo que no pudo salvar. AIN. While we were still standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively toward a nation that was not able to save.18Espiaban nuestros pasos, impidiéndonos pasar por nuestras plazas. Se acercó nuestro fin, se cumplieron nuestros días; porque nuestro fin ha llegado. SADE. Our footsteps have slipped on the paths of our own streets. Our end draws near. Our days have been completed, for our end has arrived.19Más veloces que las águilas del cielo, eran nuestros perseguidores; nos perseguían por los montes, nos armaban emboscadas en el desierto. COPH. Our persecutors have been swifter than the eagles of the sky. They have been pursuing us above the mountains; they have lain in wait for us in the desert.20El espíritu de nuestro rostro, el ungido de Yahvé, fue tornado preso en los hoyos de ellos; y nosotros decíamos que bajo su sombra viviríamos entre las naciones. RES. The spirit of our mouth, Christ the Lord, has been captured by our sins; to him, we said, “In your shadow, we will live among the Gentiles.”21Aunque prorrumpes en júbilo y te gozas, hija de Edom, que habitas en la tierra de Us; también a ti llegará el cáliz, y embriagada te desnudarás. SIN. Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, who dwells in the Land of Uz. The cup will also pass to you; you will be inebriated as well as naked.22Hija de Sión, tiene su término tu iniquidad; Él no volverá a llevarte al cautiverio; pero castigará tu iniquidad, oh hija de Edom, pondrá al descubierto tus pecados. THAU. Your iniquity has been completed, O daughter of Zion. He will no longer send you away to captivity. He has visited your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he has uncovered your sins.
