Lucas 20
1Un día en que Él enseñaba al pueblo en el Templo, anunciando el Evangelio, se hicieron presentes los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas con los ancianos, And it happened that, on one of the days when he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Gospel, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, gathered together with the elders,2y le dijeron: “Dinos, ¿con qué autoridad haces esto, o quién es el que te ha dado esa potestad?” and they spoke to him, saying: “Tell us, by what authority do you do these things? Or, who is it that has given you this authority?”3Respondioles diciendo: “Yo quiero, a mi vez, haceros una pregunta. Decidme: And in response, Jesus said to them: “I will also question you about one word. Respond to me:4El bautismo de Juan ¿venía del cielo o de los hombres?” The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?”5Entonces ellos discurrieron así en sí mismos: “Si contestamos: «del cielo», dirá: «¿Por qué no le creísteis?» So they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’6Y si decimos: «de los hombres», el pueblo todo entero nos apedreará, porque está convencido de que Juan era profeta”. But if we say, ‘Of men,’ the whole people will stone us. For they are certain that John was a prophet.”7Por lo cual respondieron no saber de dónde. And so they responded that they did not know where it was from.8Y Jesús les dijo: “Ni Yo tampoco os digo con cuál potestad hago esto”. And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”9Y se puso a decir al pueblo esta parábola: “Un hombre plantó una viña, y la arrendó a unos labradores, y se ausentó por un largo tiempo. Then he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, and he loaned it to settlers, and he was on a sojourn for a long time.10En su oportunidad envió un servidor a los trabajadores, a que le diesen del fruto de la viña. Pero los labradores lo apalearon y lo devolvieron vacío. And in due time, he sent a servant to the farmers, so that they would give to him from the fruit of the vineyard. And they beat him and drove him away, empty-handed.11Envió aún otro servidor; también a este lo apalearon, lo ultrajaron y lo devolvieron vacío. And he continued to send another servant. But beating him and treating him with contempt, they likewise sent him away, empty-handed.12Les envió todavía un tercero a quien igualmente lo hirieron y lo echaron fuera. And he continued to send a third. And wounding him also, they drove him away.13Entonces, el dueño de la viña dijo: “¿Qué haré? Voy a enviarles a mi hijo muy amado; tal vez a Él lo respeten”. Then the lord of the vineyard said: ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps when they have seen him, they will respect him.’14Pero, cuando lo vieron los labradores deliberaron unos con otros diciendo: “Este es el heredero. Matémoslo, para que la herencia sea nuestra”. And when the settlers had seen him, they discussed it among themselves, saying: ‘This one is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance will be ours.’15Lo sacaron, pues, fuera de la viña y lo mataron. ¿Qué hará con ellos el dueño de la viña? And forcing him outside of the vineyard, they killed him. What, then, will the lord of the vineyard do to them?”16Vendrá y hará perecer a estos labradores, y entregará la viña a otros”. Ellos, al oír, dijeron: “¡Jamás tal cosa!” “He will come and destroy those settlers, and he will give the vineyard to others.” And upon hearing this, they said to him, “Let it not be.”17Pero Él, fija la mirada sobre ellos, dijo: “¿Qué es aquello que está escrito: «La piedra que desecharon los que edificaban, esa resultó cabeza de esquina?» Then, gazing at them, he said: “Then what does this mean, which is written: ‘The stone which the builders have rejected, the same has become the head of the corner?’18Todo el que cayere sobre esta piedra, quedará hecho pedazos; y a aquel sobre quien ella cayere, lo hará polvo”. Everyone who falls on that stone will be shattered. And anyone upon whom it falls will be crushed.”19Entonces los escribas y los sumos sacerdotes trataban de echarle mano en aquella misma hora, pero tuvieron miedo del pueblo; porque habían comprendido bien, que para ellos había dicho esta parábola. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, were seeking to lay hands on him in that same hour, but they feared the people. For they realized that he had spoken this parable about them.20Mas no lo perdieron de vista y enviaron unos espías que simulasen ser justos, a fin de sorprenderlo en sus palabras, y así poder entregarlo a la potestad y a la jurisdicción del gobernador. And being attentive, they sent traitors, who would pretend that they were just, so that they might catch him in his words and then hand him over to the power and authority of the procurator.21Le propusieron, pues, esta cuestión: “Maestro, sabemos que Tú hablas y enseñas con rectitud y que no haces acepción de persona, sino que enseñas el camino de Dios según la verdad. And they questioned him, saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and that you do not consider anyone’s status, but you teach the way of God in truth.22¿Nos es lícito pagar el tributo al César o no?” Is it lawful for us to pay the tribute to Caesar, or not?”23Pero Él, conociendo su perfidia, les dijo: But realizing their deceitfulness, he said to them: “Why do you test me?24Mostradme un denario. ¿De quién lleva la figura y la leyenda?” Respondieron: “Del César”. Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” In response, they said to him, “Caesar’s.”25Les dijo: “Así pues, pagad al César lo que es del César, y lo que es de Dios, a Dios”. And so, he said to them: “Then repay the things that are Caesar’s, to Caesar, and the things that are God’s, to God.”26Y no lograron sorprenderlo en sus palabras delante del pueblo; y maravillados de su respuesta callaron. And they were not able to contradict his word before the people. And being amazed at his answer, they were silent.27Acercáronse, entonces, algunos saduceos, los cuales niegan la resurrección, y le interrogaron diciendo: Now some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,28“Maestro, Moisés nos ha prescripto, que si el hermano de alguno muere dejando mujer sin hijo, su hermano debe casarse con la mujer, para dar posteridad al hermano. saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote for us: If any man’s brother will have died, having a wife, and if he does not have any children, then his brother should take her as his wife, and he should raise up offspring for his brother.29Éranse, pues, siete hermanos. El primero tomó mujer, y murió sin hijo. And so there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and he died without sons.30El segundo, And the next one married her, and he also died without a son.31y después el tercero, la tomaron, y así (sucesivamente) los siete que murieron sin dejar hijo. And the third married her, and similarly all seven, and none of them left behind any offspring, and they each died.32Finalmente murió también la mujer. Last of all, the woman also died.33Esta mujer, en la resurrección, ¿de quién vendrá a ser esposa? porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer”. In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For certainly all seven had her as a wife.”34Díjoles Jesús: “Los hijos de este siglo toman mujer, y las mujeres son dadas en matrimonio; And so, Jesus said to them: “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.35mas los que hayan sido juzgados dignos de alcanzar el siglo aquel y la resurrección de entre los muertos, no tomarán mujer, y (las mujeres) no serán dadas en matrimonio, Yet truly, those who shall be held worthy of that age, and of the resurrection from the dead, will neither be married, nor take wives.36porque no pueden ya morir, pues son iguales a los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, siendo hijos de la resurrección. For they can no longer die. For they are equal to the Angels, and they are children of God, since they are children of the resurrection.37En cuanto a que los muertos resucitan, también Moisés lo dio a entender junto a la zarza, al nombrar al Señor “Dios de Abrahán, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob”. For in truth, the dead do rise again, as Moses also showed beside the bush, when he called the Lord: ‘The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’38Porque, no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues todos para Él viven”. And so he is not the God of the dead, but of the living. For all are alive to him.”39Sobre lo cual, algunos escribas le dijeron: “Maestro, has hablado bien”. Then some of the scribes, in response, said to him, “Teacher, you have spoken well.”40Y no se atrevieron a interrogarlo más. And they no longer dared to question him about anything.41Pero Él les dijo: “¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David? But he said to them: “How can they say that the Christ is the son of David?42Porque David mismo dice en el libro de los Salmos: «El Señor dijo a mi Señor: “Siéntate a mi diestra, Even David himself says, in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand,43hasta que Yo ponga a tus enemigos por escabel de tus pies”». until I set your enemies as your footstool.’44Así, pues, David lo llama “Señor”; entonces, ¿cómo es su hijo?”. Therefore, David calls him Lord. So how can he be his son?”45En presencia de todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos: Now in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples:46“Guardaos de los escribas, que se complacen en andar con largas vestiduras, y en ser saludados en las plazas públicas; que apetecen los primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los primeros divanes en los convites; “Be cautious of the scribes, who choose to walk in long robes, and who love greetings in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the first places at table during feasts,47que devoran las casas de las viudas, y afectan orar largamente. ¡Para esas gentes será más abundante la sentencia!” who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayers. These will receive the greater damnation.”
