Lucas 2
1En aquel tiempo, apareció un edicto del César Augusto, para que se hiciera el censo de toda la tierra. And it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, so that the whole world would be enrolled.2Este primer censo, tuvo lugar cuando Quirino era gobernador de Siria. This was the first enrollment; it was made by the ruler of Syria, Quirinius.3Y todos iban a hacerse empadronar, cada uno a su ciudad. And all went to be declared, each one to his own city.4Subió también José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Betlehem, porque él era de la casa y linaje de David, Then Joseph also ascended from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,5para hacerse inscribir con María su esposa, que estaba encinta. in order to be declared, with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.6Ahora bien, mientras estaban allí, llegó para ella el tiempo de su alumbramiento. Then it happened that, while they were there, the days were completed, so that she would give birth.7Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito; y lo envolvió en pañales, y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en la hostería. And she brought forth her firstborn son. And she wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them at the inn.8Había en aquel contorno unos pastores acampados al raso, que pasaban la noche custodiando su rebaño, And there were shepherds in the same region, being vigilant and keeping watch in the night over their flock.9y he aquí que un ángel del Señor se les apareció, y la gloria del Señor los envolvió de luz, y los invadió un gran temor. And behold, an Angel of the Lord stood near them, and the brightness of God shone around them, and they were struck with a great fear.10Díjoles el ángel: “¡No temáis! porque os anuncio una gran alegría que será para todo el pueblo: And the Angel said to them: “Do not be afraid. For, behold, I proclaim to you a great joy, which will be for all the people.11Hoy os ha nacido en la ciudad de David un Salvador, que es Cristo Señor. For today a Savior has been born for you in the city of David: he is Christ the Lord.12Y esto os servirá de señal: hallaréis un niño envuelto en pañales, y acostado en un pesebre”. And this will be a sign for you: you will find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”13Y de repente vino a unirse al ángel una multitud del ejército del cielo, que se puso a alabar a Dios diciendo: And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the celestial army, praising God and saying,14“Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz entre los hombres (objeto) de la buena voluntad”. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will.”15Cuando los ángeles se partieron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: “Vayamos, pues, a Betlehem y veamos este acontecimiento, que el Señor nos ha hecho conocer”. And it happened that, when the Angels had departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us cross over to Bethlehem and see this word, which has happened, which the Lord has revealed to us.”16Y fueron a prisa, y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre. And they went quickly. And they found Mary and Joseph; and the infant was lying in a manger.17Y al verle, hicieron conocer lo que les había sido dicho acerca de este niño. Then, upon seeing this, they understood the word that had been spoken to them about this boy.18Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de las cosas que les referían los pastores. And all who heard it were amazed by this, and by those things which were told to them by the shepherds.19Pero María retenía todas estas palabras ponderándolas en su corazón. But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.20Y los pastores se volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto según les había sido anunciado. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told to them.21Habiéndose cumplido los ocho días para su circuncisión, le pusieron por nombre Jesús, el mismo que le fue dado por el ángel antes que fuese concebido en el seno. And after eight days were ended, so that the boy would be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, just as he was called by the Angel before he was conceived in the womb.22Y cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, según la Ley de Moisés, lo llevaron a Jerusalén a fin de presentarlo al Señor, And after the days of her purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem, in order to present him to the Lord,23según está escrito en la Ley de Moisés: “Todo varón primer nacido será llamado santo para el Señor”, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “For every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord,”24y a fin de dar en sacrificio, según lo dicho en la Ley del Señor, “un par de tórtolas o dos pichones”. and in order to offer a sacrifice, according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”25Y he aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, hombre justo y piadoso, que esperaba la consolación de Israel, y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and God-fearing, awaiting the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was with him.26Y le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de haber visto al Ungido del Señor. And he had received an answer from the Holy Spirit: that he would not see his own death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.27Y, movido por el Espíritu, vino al templo; y cuando los padres llevaron al niño Jesús para cumplir con él las prescripciones acostumbradas de la Ley, And he went with the Spirit to the temple. And when the child Jesus was brought in by his parents, in order to act on his behalf according to the custom of the law,28él lo tomó en sus brazos, y alabó a Dios y dijo: he also took him up, into his arms, and he blessed God and said:29“Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz, según tu palabra, “Now you may dismiss your servant in peace, O Lord, according to your word.30porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación, For my eyes have seen your salvation,31que preparaste a la faz de todos los pueblos. which you have prepared before the face of all peoples:32Luz para revelarse a los gentiles, y para gloria de Israel, tu pueblo”. the light of revelation to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.”33Su padre y su madre estaban asombrados de lo que decía de Él. And his father and mother were wondering over these things, which were spoken about him.34Bendíjolos entonces Simeón, y dijo a María, su madre: “Este es puesto para ruina y para resurrección de muchos en Israel, y para ser una señal de contradicción — And Simeon blessed them, and he said to his mother Mary: “Behold, this one has been set for the ruin and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and as a sign which will be contradicted.35y a tu misma alma, una espada la traspasará—, a fin de que sean descubiertos, los pensamientos de muchos corazones”. And a sword will pass through your own soul, so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”36Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad muy avanzada; había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad; And there was a prophetess, Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, from the tribe of Asher. She was very advanced in years, and she had lived with her husband for seven years from her virginity.37y en la viudez, había llegado hasta los ochenta y cuatro años, y no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo a Dios noche y día en ayunos y oraciones. And then she was a widow, even to her eighty-fourth year. And without departing from the temple, she was a servant to fasting and prayer, night and day.38Se presentó también en aquel mismo momento y se puso a alabar a Dios y a hablar de aquel (niño) a todos los que esperaban la liberación de Jerusalén. And entering at the same hour, she confessed to the Lord. And she spoke about him to all who were awaiting the redemption of Israel.39Y cuando hubieron cumplido todo lo que era exigido por la Ley del Señor, volvieron a su ciudad de Nazaret en Galilea. And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their city, Nazareth.40El niño crecía y se robustecía, lleno de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre Él. Now the child grew, and he was strengthened with the fullness of wisdom. And the grace of God was in him.41Sus padres iban cada año a Jerusalén, por la fiesta de Pascua. And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the time of the solemnity of Passover.42Cuando tuvo doce años, subieron, según la costumbre de la fiesta; And when he had become twelve years old, they ascended to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast day.43mas a su regreso, cumplidos los días, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin que sus padres lo advirtiesen. And having completed the days, when they returned, the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem. And his parents did not realize this.44Pensando que Él estaba en la caravana, hicieron una jornada de camino, y lo buscaron entre los parientes y conocidos. But, supposing that he was in the company, they went a day’s journey, seeking him among their relatives and acquaintances.45Como no lo hallaron, se volvieron a Jerusalén en su busca And not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.46Y, al cabo de tres días lo encontraron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, escuchándolos e interrogándolos; And it happened that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, listening to them and questioning them.47y todos los que lo oían, estaban estupefactos de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas. But all who listened to him were astonished over his prudence and his responses.48Al verlo (sus padres) quedaron admirados y le dijo su madre: “Hijo, ¿por qué has hecho así con nosotros? Tu padre y yo, te estábamos buscando con angustia”. And upon seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: “Son, why have you acted this way toward us? Behold, your father and I were seeking you in sorrow.”49Les respondió: “¿Cómo es que me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que conviene que Yo esté en lo de mi Padre?” And he said to them: “How is it that you were seeking me? For did you not know that it is necessary for me to be in these things which are of my Father?”50Pero ellos no comprendieron las palabras que les habló. And they did not understand the word that he spoke to them.51Y bajó con ellos y volvió a Nazaret, y estaba sometido a ellos, su madre conservaba todas estas palabras (repasándolas) en su corazón. And he descended with them and went to Nazareth. And he was subordinate to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, como en estatura, y en favor ante Dios y ante los hombres. And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and in age, and in grace, with God and men.
