¹Cuando se aproximaron a Jerusalén, y llegaron a Betfagé, junto al Monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos discípulos, And when they had drawn near to Jerusalem, and had arrived at Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,²diciendoles: “Id a la aldea que está enfrente de vosotros, y encontraréis una asna atada y un pollino con ella: desatadlos y traédmelos. saying to them: “Go into the town that is opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Release them, and lead them to me.³Y si alguno os dice algo, contestaréis que los necesita el Señor; y al punto los enviará”. And if anyone will have said anything to you, say that the Lord has need of them. And he will promptly dismiss them.”⁴Esto sucedió para que se cumpliese lo que había sido dicho por el profeta: Now all this was done in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying,⁵“Decid a la hija de Sión: He ahí que tu rey viene a ti, benigno y montado sobre una asna y un pollino, hijo de animal de yugo”. “Tell the daughter of Zion: Behold, your king comes to you meekly, sitting on a donkey and on a colt, the son of one accustomed to the yoke.”⁶Los discípulos fueron pues, e hicieron como Jesús les había ordenado: Then the disciples, going out, did just as Jesus instructed them.⁷trajeron la asna y el pollino, pusieron sobre ellos sus mantos, y Él se sentó encima. And they brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their garments on them, and they helped him sit upon them.⁸Una inmensa multitud de gente extendía sus mantos sobre el camino, otros cortaban ramas de árboles, y las tendían por el camino. Then a very numerous crowd spread their garments on the way. But others cut branches from the trees and scattered them on the way.⁹Y las muchedumbres que marchaban delante de Él, y las que le seguían, aclamaban, diciendo: “¡Hosanna al Hijo de David! ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor! ¡Hosanna en lo más alto!” And the crowds that preceded him, and those that followed, cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!”¹⁰Y al entrar Él en Jerusalén, toda la ciudad se conmovió, y decían: “¿Quién es este?” And when he had entered into Jerusalem, the entire city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”¹¹Y las muchedumbres decían: “Este es Jesús, el profeta, de Nazaret de Galilea”. But the people were saying, “This is Jesus, the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”¹²Y entró Jesús en el Templo de Dios, y echó fuera a todos los que vendían y compraban en el Templo, y volcó las mesas de los cambistas, y las sillas de los que vendían las palomas; And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and he cast out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of the vendors of doves.¹³y les dijo: “Está escrito: “Mi casa será llamada casa de oración”, mas vosotros la hacéis “cueva de ladrones”. And he said to them: “It is written: ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer. But you have made it into a den of robbers.’ ”¹⁴y se llegaron a Él en el Templo ciegos y tullidos, y los sanó. And the blind and the lame drew near to him in the temple; and he healed them.¹⁵Mas los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, viendo los milagros que hacía, y oyendo a los niños que gritaban en el Templo y decían: “Hosanna al Hijo de David”, se indignaron, Then the leaders of the priests and the scribes became indignant, seeing the miracles that he wrought, and the children crying out in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”¹⁶y le dijeron: “¿Oyes lo que dicen estos?” Jesús les replicó: “Sí, ¿nunca habéis leído aquello: “De la boca de los pequeñitos y de los lactantes, me prepararé alabanza?”. And they said to him, “Do you hear what these ones are saying?” But Jesus said to them, “Certainly. Have you never read: For out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have perfected praise?”¹⁷Y dejándolos, salió de la ciudad a Betania, donde se albergó. And leaving them behind, he went out, beyond the city, into Bethania, and he lodged here.¹⁸Por la mañana, cuando volvía a la ciudad, tuvo hambre; Then, as he was returning to the city in the morning, he was hungry.¹⁹y viendo una higuera junto al camino, se acercó a ella, mas no halló en ella sino hojas. Entonces le dijo: “¡Nunca más nazca ya fruto de ti!” Y en seguida la higuera se secó. And seeing a certain fig tree beside the way, he approached it. And he found nothing on it, except only leaves. And he said to it, “May fruit never spring forth from you, for all time.” And immediately the fig tree was dried up.²⁰Viendo esto, los discípulos se maravillaron y dijeron: “¿Cómo al momento se secó la higuera?” And seeing this, the disciples wondered, saying, “How did it dry up so quickly?”²¹Y Jesús les dijo: “En verdad, os digo, si tenéis fe, y no dudáis, no solamente haréis lo de la higuera, sino que si decís a esta montaña: “Quítate de ahí y échate al mar”, eso se hará. And Jesus responded to them by saying: “Amen I say to you, if you have faith and do not hesitate, not only shall you do this, concerning the fig tree, but even if you would say to this mountain, ‘Take and cast yourself into the sea,’ it shall be done.²²Y todo lo que pidiereis con fe, en la oración, lo obtendréis”. And all things whatsoever that you shall ask for in prayer: believing, you shall receive.”²³Llegado al Templo, se acercaron a Él, mientras enseñaba, los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo y le dijeron: “¿Con qué autoridad haces esto, y quién te ha dado ese poder?”. And when he had arrived at the temple, as he was teaching, the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people approached him, saying: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given this authority to you?”²⁴Mas Jesús les respondió y dijo: “Yo también quiero preguntaros una cosa; si vosotros me la decís, Yo os diré a mi vez con qué autoridad hago esto: In response, Jesus said to them: “I also will question you with one word: if you tell me this, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.²⁵El bautismo de Juan ¿de dónde era? ¿Del cielo o de los hombres?” Ellos, entonces, discurrieron así en sí mismos: The baptism of John, where was it from? Was it from heaven, or from men?” But they thought within themselves, saying:²⁶Si decimos: “del cielo”, nos dirá: “Entonces ¿por qué no le creísteis?” “Si decimos: “de los hombres”, hemos de temer al pueblo, porque todos tienen a Juan por profeta”. “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John to be a prophet.”²⁷Respondieron, pues, a Jesús, diciendo: “No sabemos”. Y Él les dijo: “Ni Yo tampoco os digo con qué autoridad hago esto”. And so, they answered Jesus by saying, “We do not know.” So he also said to them: “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.²⁸“¿Qué opináis vosotros? Un hombre tenía dos hijos; fue a buscar al primero y le dijo: “Hijo, ve hoy a trabajar a la viña”. But how does it seem to you? A certain man had two sons. And approaching the first, he said: ‘Son, go out today to work in my vineyard.’²⁹Mas este respondió y dijo: “Voy, Señor”, y no fue. And responding, he said, ‘I am not willing.’ But afterwards, being moved by repentance, he went.³⁰Después fue a buscar al segundo, y le dijo lo mismo. Este contestó y dijo: “No quiero”, pero después se arrepintió y fue. And approaching the other, he spoke similarly. And answering, he said, ‘I am going, lord.’ And he did not go.³¹¿Cuál de los dos hizo la voluntad del padre?” Respondieron: “El último”. Which of the two did the will of the father?” They said to him, “The first.” Jesus said to them: “Amen I say to you, that tax collectors and prostitutes shall precede you, into the kingdom of God.³²Porque vino Juan a vosotros, andando en camino de justicia, y vosotros no le creísteis, mientras que los publicanos y las rameras le creyeron. Ahora bien, ni siquiera después de haber visto esto, os arrepentisteis, para creerle”. For John came to you in the way of justice, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Yet even after seeing this, you did not repent, so as to believe him.³³“Escuchad otra parábola. “Había un dueño de casa, que plantó una viña, la rodeó de una cerca, cavó en ella un lagar y edificó una torre; después, la arrendó a unos viñadores, y se fue a otro país. Listen to another parable. There was a man, the father of a family, who planted a vineyard, and surrounded it with a hedge, and dug a press in it, and built a tower. And he loaned it out to farmers, and he set out to sojourn abroad.³⁴Cuando llegó el tiempo de los frutos, envió sus siervos a los viñadores para recibir los frutos suyos. Then, when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, so that they might receive its fruits.³⁵Pero los viñadores agarraron a los siervos, apalearon a este, mataron a aquel, lapidaron a otro. And the farmers apprehended his servants; they struck one, and killed another, and stoned yet another.³⁶Entonces envió otros siervos en mayor número que los primeros; y los trataron de la misma manera. Again, he sent other servants, more than before; and they treated them similarly.³⁷Finalmente les envió su hijo, diciendo: “Respetarán a mi hijo”. Then, at the very end, he sent his son to them, saying: ‘They will revere my son.’³⁸Pero los viñadores, viendo al hijo, se dijeron entre sí: “Este es el heredero. Venid, matémoslo, y nos quedaremos con su herencia”. But the farmers, seeing the son, said among themselves: ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and then we will have his inheritance.’³⁹Lo agarraron, lo sacaron fuera de la viña y lo mataron. And apprehending him, they cast him outside the vineyard, and they killed him.⁴⁰Cuando vuelva pues el dueño de la viña, ¿qué hará con aquellos viñadores?” Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard arrives, what will he do to those farmers?”⁴¹Dijeron: “Hará perecer sin piedad a estos miserables, y arrendará la viña a otros viñadores, que le paguen los frutos a su tiempo”. They said to him, “He will bring those evil men to an evil end, and he will loan out his vineyard to other farmers, who shall repay to him the fruit in its time.”⁴²y díjoles Jesús: “¿No habéis leído nunca en las Escrituras: “La piedra que desecharon los que edificaban, esa ha venido a ser cabeza de esquina; el Señor es quien hizo esto, y es un prodigio a nuestros ojos?”. Jesus said to them: “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders have rejected has become the cornerstone. By the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes?’⁴³Por eso os digo: El reino de Dios os será quitado, y dado a gente que rinda sus frutos. Therefore, I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a people who shall produce its fruits.⁴⁴Y quien cayere sobre esta piedra, se hará pedazos; y a aquel sobre quien ella cayere, lo hará polvo”. And whoever will have fallen on this stone shall be broken, yet truly, on whomever it shall fall, it will crush him.”⁴⁵Los sumos sacerdotes y los fariseos, oyendo sus parábolas, comprendieron que de ellos hablaba. And when the leaders of the priests, and the Pharisees had heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.⁴⁶Y trataban de prenderlo, pero temían a las multitudes porque estas lo tenían por profeta. And though they sought to take hold of him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.
