¹Oíd lo que dice Yahvé: ¡Levántate, contiende con los montes, y oigan tu voz los collados. Listen to what the Lord says: Rise, contend in judgment against the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.²Escuchad, oh montes, la querella de Yahvé, vosotros también, oh, inconmovibles fundamentos de la tierra; porque Yahvé pleitea con su pueblo, y entra en juicio con Israel. Let the mountains listen to the judgment of the Lord, and the strong foundations of the earth. For the judgment of the Lord is with his people, and he will enter into judgment with Israel.³¿Qué te he hecho Yo, oh pueblo mío, y en qué te he agraviado? Respóndeme. My people, what have I done to you, or how have I assailed you? Respond to me.⁴Pues Yo te saqué del país de Egipto, y te redimí de la casa de la esclavitud, y envié delante de ti a Moisés, a Aarón y a María. For I led you out of the land of Egypt, and I freed you from the house of servitude, and I sent before your face Moses, and Aaron, and Miriam.⁵Pueblo mío, acuérdate de lo que maquinó Balac, rey de Moab, y de la respuesta que le dio Balaam, hijo de Beor, entre Sitim y Gálgala, para que reconozcáis las justicias de Yahvé. My people, remember, I ask you, what Balak the king of Moab planned, and how Balaam the son of Beor responded to him, from Shittim even to Gilgal, so that you may know the justice of the Lord.⁶¿Con qué me presentaré ante Yahvé, y me postraré delante del Dios excelso? ¿Me presentaré acaso ante Él con holocaustos, con becerros primales? What worthy thing might I offer to the Lord, as I bend the knee before God on high? How could I offer holocausts to him, and one year-old calves?⁷¿Le agradan a Yahvé los miles de carneros, y las miríadas de ríos de aceite? ¿Daré acaso mi primogénito por mi prevaricación, el fruto de mis entrañas por el pecado de mi alma? Would the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with many thousands of fat he-goats? How could I give up my firstborn because of my evil deed, the fruit of my womb because of the sin of my soul?⁸Él te hizo conocer, oh hombre, lo que es bueno y lo que te pide Yahvé: practicar la justicia, y amar la misericordia, y andar humildemente en la presencia de tu Dios. I will reveal to you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requires from you, and how to act with judgment, and to love mercy, and to walk carefully with your God.⁹La voz de Yahvé llama a la ciudad —y es sabiduría temer tu Nombre—: Haced caso de la vara, y de aquel que la mandó. The voice of the Lord cries out to the city, “Listen, you tribes,” and who will confirm it? And salvation will be for those who fear your name.¹⁰¿Hay todavía tesoros de iniquidad en la casa del impío, y el abominable efa menguado? Nevertheless, there is a fire in the house of the impious, the treasury of iniquity, and a small measure, filled with wrath.¹¹¿Por ventura podré considerarme por justo teniendo balanzas falsas y el saquillo de pesos fraudulentos? Shall I justify unfaithful balances, and the deceitful weighing of a small bag?¹²Los ricos de la (ciudad) se han llenado de violencia, sus habitantes hablan mentiras, y la lengua de su boca es engañosa. By this, her wealthy have been filled with iniquity, and her inhabitants have spoken lies, and their tongue was deceitful in their mouth.¹³Por eso, Yo también te heriré de una llaga muy grave, te devastaré a causa de tus pecados. And I, therefore, began to strike you with perdition because of your sins.¹⁴Comerás, mas no te hartarás; quedará en ti tu hambre. Pondrás aparte (tus bienes), pero nada salvarás, y lo que salvares, lo entregaré Yo a la espada. You will consume and not be satisfied, and your humiliation will be in your midst. And you will take hold, and not save, and those whom you will save, I will deliver to the sword.¹⁵Sembrarás, mas no segarás; pisarás la aceituna sin ungirte con óleo; y la uva sin beber el vino. You will sow, and not reap. You will tread the olives, and not be anointed with oil, and crush the grapes, and not drink the wine.¹⁶Observáis lo que os mandó Amrí, y todas las obras de la casa de Acab; y seguís los consejos de ellos, para que Yo te entregue a la desolación y al escarnio a sus habitantes. Así llevaréis el oprobio de mi pueblo. For you have kept the precepts of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab. And you have walked according their wills, so that I should give you over to perdition and its hissing inhabitants, and you would carry the disgrace of my people.
