1Dos días después era la Pascua y los Ázimos, y los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, buscaban cómo podrían apoderarse de Él con engaño y matarlo. Now the feast of Passover and of Unleavened Bread was two days away. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, were seeking a means by which they might deceitfully seize him and kill him.2Mas decían: “No durante la fiesta, no sea que ocurra algún tumulto en el pueblo”. But they said, “Not on the feast day, lest perhaps there may be a tumult among the people.”3Ahora bien, hallándose Él en Betania, en casa de Simón, el Leproso, y estando sentado a la mesa, vino una mujer con un vaso de alabastro lleno de ungüento de nardo puro de gran precio; y quebrando el alabastro, derramó el ungüento sobre su cabeza. And when he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, and was reclining to eat, a woman arrived having an alabaster container of ointment, of precious spikenard. And breaking open the alabaster container, she poured it over his head.4Mas algunos de los presentes indignados interiormente, decían: “¿A qué este despilfarro de ungüento? But there were some who became indignant within themselves and who were saying: “What is the reason for this waste of the ointment?5Porque el ungüento este se podía vender por más de trescientos denarios, y dárselos a los pobres”. Y bramaban contra ella. For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and been given to the poor.” And they murmured against her.6Mas Jesús dijo: “Dejadla. ¿Por qué la molestáis? Ha hecho una buena obra conmigo. But Jesus said: “Permit her. What is the reason that you trouble her? She has done a good deed for me.7Porque los pobres los tenéis con vosotros siempre, y podéis hacerles bien cuando queráis; pero a Mí no me tenéis siempre. For the poor, you have with you always. And whenever you wish, you are able to do good to them. But you do not have me always.8Lo que ella podía hacer lo ha hecho. Se adelantó a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura. But she has done what she could. She has arrived in advance to anoint my body for burial.9En verdad, os digo, dondequiera que fuere predicado este Evangelio, en el mundo entero, se narrará también lo que acaba de hacer, en recuerdo suyo”. Amen I say to you, wherever this Gospel shall be preached throughout the entire world, the things she has done also shall be told, in memory of her.”10Entonces, Judas Iscariote, que era de los Doce, fue a los sumos sacerdotes, con el fin de entregarlo a ellos. And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away, to the leaders of the priests, in order to betray him to them.11Los cuales al oírlo se llenaron de alegría y prometieron darle dinero. Y él buscaba una ocasión favorable para entregarlo. And they, upon hearing it, were gladdened. And they promised him that they would give him money. And he sought an opportune means by which he might betray him.12El primer día de los Azimos, cuando se inmolaba la Pascua, sus discípulos le dijeron: “¿Adónde quieres que vayamos a hacer los preparativos para que comas la Pascua?” And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they immolate the Passover, the disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?”13Y envió a dos de ellos, diciéndoles: “Id a la ciudad, y os saldrá al encuentro un hombre llevando un cántaro de agua; seguidle, And he sent two of his disciples, and he said to them: “Go into the city. And you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.14y adonde entrare, decid al dueño de casa: “El Maestro dice: ¿Dónde está mi aposento en que voy a comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?”. And wherever he will have entered, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says: Where is my dining room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’15Y él os mostrará un cenáculo grande en el piso alto, ya dispuesto; y allí aderezad para nosotros”. And he will show you a large cenacle, fully furnished. And there, you shall prepare it for us.”16Los discípulos se marcharon, y al llegar a la ciudad encontraron como Él había dicho; y prepararon la Pascua. And his disciples departed and went into the city. And they found it just as he had told them. And they prepared the Passover.17Venida la tarde, fue Él con los Doce. Then, when evening came, he arrived with the twelve.18Y mientras estaban en la mesa y comían, Jesús dijo: “En verdad os digo, me entregará uno de vosotros que come conmigo”. And while reclining and eating with them at table, Jesus said, “Amen I say to you, that one of you, who eats with me, will betray me.”19Pero ellos comenzaron a contristarse, y a preguntarle uno por uno: “¿Seré yo?” But they began to be sorrowful and to say to him, one at a time: “Is it I?”20Respondioles: “Uno de los Doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato. And he said to them: “It is one of the twelve, who dips his hand with me in the dish.21El Hijo del hombre se va, como está escrito de Él, pero ¡ay del hombre, por quien el Hijo del hombre es entregado! Más le valdría a ese hombre no haber nacido”. And indeed, the Son of man goes, just as it has been written of him. But woe to that man by whom the Son of man will be betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had never been born.”22Y mientras ellos comían, tomó pan, y habiendo bendecido, partió y dio a ellos y dijo: “Tomad, este es el cuerpo mío”. And while eating with them, Jesus took bread. And blessing it, he broke it and gave it to them, and he said: “Take. This is my body.”23Tomó luego un cáliz, y después de haber dado gracias dio a ellos; y bebieron de él todos. And having taken the chalice, giving thanks, he gave it to them. And they all drank from it.24Y les dijo: “Esta es la sangre mía de la Alianza, que se derrama por muchos. And he said to them: “This is my blood of the new covenant, which shall be shed for many.25En verdad, os digo, que no beberé ya del fruto de la vid hasta el día aquel en que lo beberé nuevo en el reino de Dios”. Amen I say to you, that I will no longer drink from this fruit of the vine, until that day when I will drink it new in the kingdom of God.”26Y después de cantar el himno, salieron para el monte de los olivos. And having sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.27Entonces Jesús les dijo: “Vosotros todos os vais a escandalizar, porque está escrito: «Heriré al pastor, y las ovejas se dispersarán». And Jesus said to them: “You will all fall away from me in this night. For it has been written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’28Mas después que Yo haya resucitado, os precederé en Galilea”. But after I have risen again, I will go before you to Galilee.”29Díjole Pedro: “Aunque todos se escandalizaren, yo no”. Then Peter said to him, “Even if all will have fallen away from you, yet I will not.”30Y le dijo Jesús: “En verdad, te digo: que hoy, esta misma noche, antes que el gallo cante dos veces, tú me negarás tres”. And Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, that this day, in this night, before the rooster has uttered its voice twice, you will deny me three times.”31Pero él decía con mayor insistencia: “¡Aunque deba morir contigo, jamás te negaré!” Esto mismo dijeron también todos. But he spoke further, “Even if I must die along with you, I will not deny you.” And they all spoke similarly also.32Y llegaron al huerto llamado Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: “Sentaos aquí mientras hago oración”. And they went to a country estate, by the name of Gethsemani. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I pray.”33Tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan; y comenzó a atemorizarse y angustiarse. And he took Peter, and James, and John with him. And he began to be afraid and wearied.34Y les dijo: “Mi alma está mortalmente triste; quedaos aquí y velad”. And he said to them: “My soul is sorrowful, even unto death. Remain here and be vigilant.”35Y yendo un poco más lejos, se postró en tierra, y rogó a fin de que, si fuese posible, se alejase de Él esa hora; And when he had proceeded on a little ways, he fell prostrate on the ground. And he prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.36y decía: “¡Abba, Padre! ¡todo te es posible; aparta de Mí este cáliz; pero, no como Yo quiero, sino como Tú!”. And he said: “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take this chalice from me. But let it be, not as I will, but as you will.”37Volvió y los halló dormidos; y dijo a Pedro: “¡Simón! ¿duermes? ¿No pudiste velar una hora?. And he went and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter: “Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not able to be vigilant for one hour?38Velad y orad para no entrar en tentación. El espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil”. Watch and pray, so that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”39Se alejó de nuevo y oró, diciendo lo mismo. And going away again, he prayed, saying the same words.40Después volvió y los encontró todavía dormidos; sus ojos estaban en efecto cargados, y no supieron qué decirle. And upon returning, he found them sleeping yet again, (for their eyes were heavy) and they did not know how to respond to him.41Una tercera vez volvió, y les dijo: “¿Dormís ya y descansáis? ¡Basta! llegó la hora. Mirad: ahora el Hijo del hombre es entregado en las manos de los pecadores. And he arrived for the third time, and he said to them: “Sleep now, and take rest. It is enough. The hour has arrived. Behold, the Son of man will be betrayed into the hands of sinners.42¡Levantaos! ¡Vamos! Se acerca el que me entrega”. Rise up, let us go. Behold, he who will betray me is near.”43Y al punto, cuando Él todavía hablaba, apareció Judas, uno de los Doce, y con él una tropa armada de espadas y palos, enviada por los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos. And while he was still speaking, Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, arrived, and with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, sent from the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the elders.44Y el que lo entregaba, les había dado esta señal: “Aquel a quien yo daré un beso, Él es: prendedlo y llevadlo con cautela”. Now his betrayer had given them a sign, saying: “He whom I shall kiss, it is he. Take hold of him, and lead him away cautiously.”45Y apenas llegó, se acercó a Él y le dijo: “Rabí”, y lo besó. And when he had arrived, immediately drawing near to him, he said: “Hail, Master!” And he kissed him.46Ellos, pues, le echaron mano, y lo sujetaron. But they laid hands on him and held him.47Entonces, uno de los que ahí estaban, desenvainó su espada, y dio al siervo del sumo sacerdote un golpe y le amputó la oreja. Then a certain one of those standing near, drawing a sword, struck a servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.48Y Jesús, respondiendo, les dijo: “Como contra un bandolero habéis salido, armados de espadas y palos, para prenderme. And in response, Jesus said to them: “Have you set out to apprehend me, just as if to a robber, with swords and clubs?49Todos los días estaba Yo en medio de vosotros enseñando en el Templo, y no me prendisteis. Pero (es) para que se cumplan las Escrituras”. Daily, I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not take hold of me. But in this way, the scriptures are fulfilled.”50Y abandonándole, huyeron todos. Then his disciples, leaving him behind, all fled away.51Cierto joven, empero, lo siguió, envuelto en una sábana sobre el cuerpo desnudo, y lo prendieron; Now a certain young man followed him, having nothing but a fine linen cloth over himself. And they took hold of him.52pero él soltando la sábana, se escapó de ellos desnudo. But he, rejecting the fine linen cloth, escaped from them naked.53Condujeron a Jesús a casa del Sumo Sacerdote, donde se reunieron todos los jefes de los sacerdotes, los ancianos y los escribas. And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the priests and the scribes and the elders came together.54Pedro lo había seguido de lejos hasta el interior del palacio del Sumo Sacerdote, y estando sentado con los criados se calentaba junto al fuego. But Peter followed him from a distance, even into the court of the high priest. And he sat with the servants at the fire and warmed himself.55Los sumos sacerdotes, y todo el Sanhedrín, buscaban contra Jesús un testimonio para hacerlo morir, pero no lo hallaban. Yet truly, the leaders of the priests and the entire council sought testimony against Jesus, so that they might deliver him to death, and they found none.56Muchos, ciertamente, atestiguaron en falso contra Él, pero los testimonios no eran concordes. For many spoke false testimony against him, but their testimony did not agree.57Y algunos se levantaron y adujeron contra Él este falso testimonio: And certain ones, rising up, bore false witness against him, saying:58“Nosotros le hemos oído decir: ‘Derribaré este Templo hecho de mano de hombre, y en el espacio de tres días reedificaré otro no hecho de mano de hombre’”. “For we heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple, made with hands, and within three days I will build another, not made with hands.’ ”59Pero aun en esto el testimonio de ellos no era concorde. And their testimony did not agree.60Entonces, el Sumo Sacerdote, se puso de pie en medio e interrogó a Jesús diciendo: “¿No respondes nada? ¿Qué es lo que estos atestiguan contra Ti?” And the high priest, rising up in their midst, questioned Jesus, saying, “Do you have nothing to say in answer to the things that are brought against you by these ones?”61Pero Él guardó silencio y nada respondió. De nuevo, el Sumo Sacerdote lo interrogó y le dijo: “¿Eres Tú el Cristo, el Hijo del Bendito?” But he was silent and gave no answer. Again, the high priest questioned him, and he said to him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed God?”62Jesús respondió: “Yo soy. Y veréis al Hijo del Hombre sentado a la derecha del Poder, y viniendo en las nubes del cielo”. Then Jesus said to him: “I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power of God and arriving with the clouds of heaven.”63Entonces, el Sumo Sacerdote rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: “¿Qué necesidad tenemos ahora de testigos? Then the high priest, rending his garments, said: “Why do we still require witnesses?64Vosotros acabáis de oír la blasfemia. ¿Qué os parece?” Y ellos todos sentenciaron que Él era reo de muerte. You have heard the blasphemy. How does it seem to you?” And they all condemned him, as guilty unto death.65Y comenzaron algunos a escupir sobre Él y, velándole el rostro, lo abofeteaban diciéndole: “¡Adivina!” Y los criados le daban bofetadas. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face and to strike him with fists, and to say to him, “Prophesy.” And the servants struck him with the palms their hands.66Mientras Pedro estaba abajo, en el patio, vino una de las sirvientas del Sumo Sacerdote, And while Peter was in the court below, one of the maidservants of the high priest arrived.67la cual viendo a Pedro que se calentaba, lo miró y le dijo: “Tú también estabas con el Nazareno Jesús”. And when she had seen Peter warming himself, she stared at him, and she said: “You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.”68Pero él lo negó, diciendo: “No sé absolutamente qué quieres decir”. Y salió fuera, al pórtico, y cantó un gallo. But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you saying.” And he went outside, in front of the court; and a rooster crowed.69Y la sirvienta, habiéndolo visto allí, se puso otra vez a decir a los circunstantes: “Este es uno de ellos”. Y él lo negó de nuevo. Then again, when a maidservant had seen him, she began to say to the bystanders, “For this is one of them.”70Poco después los que estaban allí, dijeron nuevamente a Pedro: “Por cierto que tú eres de ellos; porque también eres galileo”. But he denied it again. And after a little while, again those standing near said to Peter: “In truth, you are one of them. For you, too, are a Galilean.”71Entonces, comenzó a echar imprecaciones y dijo con juramento: “Yo no conozco a ese hombre del que habláis”. Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, “For I do not know this man, about whom you are speaking.”72Al punto, por segunda vez, cantó un gallo. Y Pedro se acordó de la palabra que Jesús le había dicho: “Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me habrás negado tres”, y rompió en sollozos. And immediately the rooster crowed again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he began to weep.
