¹¡Ay de la ciudad sanguinaria que está toda llena de mentiras y de robo, y nunca suelta la presa! Woe to the city of blood, filled with all manner of lies and violence. Crime shall not depart from you:²Estruendo de látigos, y estrépito de ruedas. Caballos que corren y carros que saltan. the voice of the whip, and the voice of the turning wheels, and of the neighing horse, and the burning chariot, and the horsemen who ride,³jinetes erguidos, fulgentes espadas, lanzas relampagueantes. Multitud de traspasados, cadáveres en masa, muertos sin fin. Tropieza la gente con los cuerpos muertos. and of the flashing sword and the shining spear, and of a multitude executed and a grievous ruination. Neither is there an end to the dead bodies, and they will fall down upon their dead bodies.⁴Es a causa de las muchas fornicaciones de la ramera, bella y encantadora, maestra en hechicerías, que con sus fornicaciones esclavizaba a las naciones, y con sus hechizos a los pueblos. Because of the multitude of fornications of the kept woman, beautiful and pleasing and practicing evil deeds, who sold nations by her fornications, and families by her evil doing:⁵Heme aquí contra ti, dice Yahvé de los ejércitos; descubriré las faldas de tu (vestido) hasta sobre tu cara, y mostraré a las naciones tu desnudez, y a los reinos tu vergüenza. behold, I will come to you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will reveal your shame to your face, and I will show your nakedness to the Gentiles, and your disgrace to kingdoms.⁶Arrojaré sobre ti inmundicias, te cubriré de afrenta y te pondré por espectáculo. And I will cast abominations over you, and I will afflict you with abuse, and I will make an example of you.⁷Cuantos te vean, retrocederán de ti, diciendo: ¡Destruida está Nínive! ¿Quién tendrá compasión de ella? ¿Dónde buscaré a quien te consuele? And this shall be: everyone who sees you, will recoil from you, and he will say: “Nineveh has been devastated.” Who will shake his head over you? Where might I seek consolation for you?⁸¿Eres tú acaso mejor que No-Amón, que se sentaba sobre los ríos, que estaba rodeada de aguas, cuyo baluarte era el mar y cuya muralla formaban las aguas? Are you better than the populous Alexandria, which dwells along the rivers? Waters encircle it: the sea, with its riches. All your fortresses will be like fig trees with their green figs. If they are shaken violently, they will fall into the mouth of the one who devours.¹³He aquí que el pueblo que está en medio de ti es como mujeres; las puertas de tu país se abren de par en par a tus enemigos; el fuego devora tus cerrojos. Behold, women are at the center of your people. The gates of your land will be opened wide for your enemies; fire will devour your bars.¹⁴¡Sácate agua para el asedio, refuerza tus baluartes; entra en el lodo, pisa el barro, toma el molde de ladrillos! Draw in water because of the blockade; build up your fortresses. Go into the clay and tread; work it to make brick.¹⁵Allí te consumirá el fuego, te destruirá la espada; te devorará como devora la langosta. ¡Multiplícate como la langosta, hazte numerosa como la langosta! There, fire will devour you. You will perish by the sword; it will devour you like the beetle. Gather together like the beetle. You have made more negotiations than there are stars in the sky. Your guardians are like locusts, and your little ones are like locusts among locusts, which alight on hedges on a cold day. The sun rose up, and they flew away, and there was no way to know the place where they had been.¹⁸Tus pastores, oh rey de Asiria, duermen; tus nobles descansan (en el sepulcro), tu pueblo anda disperso sobre los montes, y no hay quien lo congregue. Your shepherds have become drowsy, king Assur. Your princes will be buried. Your people have remained hidden in the mountains, and there is no one to gather them.¹⁹No hay remedio para tu ruina; tu herida es gravísima; cuantos oyeren hablar de tu (ruina), batirán palmas contra ti; pues ¿sobre quién no pasó de continuo tu maldad? Your destruction is not hidden; your wound is grievous. All who have heard of your fame have clenched their hands over you, because over whom has your wickedness not trampled continually?
