Nehemías 6
1Cuando Sanballat, Tobías, Gésem el árabe y los demás enemigos nuestros supieron que yo había edificado las murallas, y que ya no quedaba brecha en ella, bien que hasta entonces no había puesto las hojas en las puertas, Now it happened that, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem, an Arab, and our other enemies, had heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no interruption remaining in it, (even though, at that time, I had not set up the double doors at the gates,)2Sanballat y Gésem enviaron a decirme: “Ven a una entrevista en las aldeas del valle de Onó”; pero ellos pensaban hacerme mal. Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying: “Come, and let us strike a pact together in the villages, on the plain of Ono.” But they were thinking that they would do me harm.3Les envié mensajeros que les dijeran: “Estoy haciendo una grandísima obra y no puedo bajar. ¿Ha de suspenderse acaso la obra, mientras yo, dejándola, me entreviste con vosotros?” Therefore, I sent messengers to them, saying: “I am doing a great work, and I cannot descend, lest perhaps it may be neglected when I go out and descend to you.”4Me enviaron este mismo mensaje cuatro veces, y yo les contesté de la misma manera. Then they sent to me, with this same word, four times. And I responded to them with the same word as before.5Sanballat me mandó decir lo mismo por quinta vez, por un criado suyo que (traía) en su mano una carta abierta. And Sanballat sent his servant to me a fifth time, with the former word, and he had a letter in his hand written in this manner:6En ella estaba escrito: “Se dice entre las gentes, y Gasmú lo confirma, que tú y los judíos pensáis en sublevaros; por cuyo motivo estás construyendo las murallas. Según estos mismos rumores tú pretendes también hacerte rey de ellos. “It has been heard among the Gentiles, and Geshem has said it, that you and the Jews are planning to rebel, and because of this, you are building the wall and thinking to raise yourself as a king over them. For this reason,7A más de esto, has constituido profetas que respecto de ti proclaman en Jerusalén diciendo: ¡Hay rey en Judá! Ahora bien, el rey va a ser informado de estas cosas; ven, pues, y pongámonos de acuerdo.” you also have stationed prophets, who preach about you in Jerusalem, saying: ‘There is a king in Judea!’ But the king will hear about these words. Therefore, come now, so that we may go to counsel together.”8Pero yo envié a decirle: “No se hace nada de lo que tú dices, sino que son invenciones de tu corazón.” And I sent to them, saying: “There has been nothing done according to these words, which you have spoken. For you are inventing these things from your own heart.”9Pues todos ellos querían amedrentarnos, diciéndose: “Se debilitarán sus manos y dejarán la obra, la cual no se cumplirá.” ¡Ahora, fortalece Tú mis manos! For all these men wished to frighten us, thinking that our hands would cease from the work, and that we would cease. For this reason, I strengthened my hands all the more.10Después fui a la casa de Semaías, hijo de Dalías, hijo de Mehetabel, que se había encerrado; y él me dijo: “Vamos juntos a la Casa de Dios, al interior del Templo, y cerraremos las puertas del Templo; porque vendrán a matarte. Sí, de noche vendrán a matarte.” And I entered into the house of Shemaiah, the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, in secret. And he said: “Let us consult together in the house of God, in the midst of the temple. And let us close the doors of the temple. For they will come to kill you, and they will arrive in the night to put you to death.”11Respondí yo: “¿Un hombre como yo ha de huir? ¿Un hombre como yo ha de entrar en el Templo para salvar su vida? ¡No entraré!” And I said: “How could anyone like me flee? And who like me should enter the temple, so that he may live? I will not enter.”12Y fijándome en él conocí que no era Dios quien le enviaba, sino que él mismo había hecho esta profecía contra mí; porque Tobías y Sanballat le habían sobornado. And I understood that God had not sent him, but he had spoken to me as if he were prophesying, and that Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.13Lo habían comprado para que yo tuviese miedo y obrando así cometiera un pecado; esto les habría servido para infamar mi nombre y cubrirme de oprobio. For he had accepted money, so that I would be afraid, and would sin, and so that they would have some evil with which to rebuke me.14¡Acuérdate, oh Dios mío, de Tobías y de Sanballat, según estas obras suyas; y también de Noadiá, la profetisa, y de los demás profetas que procuraban atemorizarme! Remember me, O Lord, because of Tobiah and Sanballat, because of their works of this kind. Then, too, Noadiah, a prophetess, and the rest of the prophets, would have made me afraid.15Se acabaron las murallas el veinte y cinco del mes de Elul, en cincuenta y dos días. Now the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth day of the month of Elul, in fifty-two days.16Cuando todos nuestros enemigos lo supieron, se atemorizaron todas las gentes que vivían alrededor de nosotros, y cayeron de ánimo, pues conocieron que por nuestro Dios había sido hecha esta obra. Then it happened that, when all our enemies had heard of it, all the nations that were around us were afraid, and they were downcast within themselves. For they knew that this work had been accomplished by God.17También en ese tiempo iban muchas cartas, de los nobles de Judá a Tobías, y venían a ellos cartas de parte de Tobías, But also, in those days, many letters were being sent by the nobles of the Jews to Tobiah, and were arriving from Tobiah to them.18porque muchos de Judá le estaban obligados por juramento, puesto que era yerno de Secanías, hijo de Arah, y su hijo Jonatán había tomado por mujer a la hija de Mesullam, hijo de Baraquías. For there were many in Judea who had sworn an oath to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah, the son of Arah, and because Jehohanan, his son, had married the daughter of Meshullam, the son of Berechiah.19Hablaban también en mi presencia de sus buenas cualidades y le comunicaron mis palabras. También Tobías envió cartas para intimidarme. Moreover, they praised him before me, and they reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters, so that he might make me afraid.
