1Coré, hijo de Ishar, hijo de Caat, hijo de Leví, se confabuló con Datan y Abirón, hijos de Eliab, y On, hijo de Félet, de la tribu de Rubén, Then, behold, Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and also On the son of Peleth, of the sons of Ruben,2y se levantaron contra Moisés y Aarón, con doscientos cincuenta hombres de los hijos de Israel, príncipes de la Congregación, miembros del Consejo, varones distinguidos, rose up against Moses, with two hundred fifty others of the sons of Israel, leading men of the assembly, and who, at the time of a council, would be called by name.3se juntaron en torno a Moisés y Aarón, y les dijeron: “Os baste ya; pues todo el pueblo, cada uno de ellos, es santo, y Yahvé está en medio de ellos. ¿Por qué os ensalzáis sobre la Asamblea de Yahvé?” And when they had stood against Moses and Aaron, they said: “Let it be sufficient for you that the entire multitude is of holy ones, and that the Lord is among them. Why do you elevate yourselves above the people of the Lord?”4Al oírlo Moisés, cayó sobre su rostro; When Moses had heard this, he fell prone on his face.5después habló a Coré y a todo su bando, diciendo: “Mañana Yahvé dará a conocer quién es suyo, y quién es santo, para acercarse a Él; y al que Él escogiere, a este permitirá que se le acerque. And speaking to Korah, and to the entire multitude, he said: “In the morning, the Lord will cause it to be known who belongs to him, and which holy ones he will join to himself. And whomever he will choose, they shall be close to him.6Haced esto: Tomad incensarios, Coré y todo su grupo; Therefore, do this: Each one of you, Korah and all your associates, take your censer,7y mañana poned en ellos fuego, y echad encima incienso ante Yahvé; y aquel a quien Yahvé escogiere, ese será el santo. Bástenos esto, hijos de Leví.” and drawing fire into it tomorrow, place incense upon it before the Lord. And whomever he will choose, the same shall be holy. You sons of Levi have been raised up greatly.”8Y dijo Moisés a Coré: “Oíd, os ruego, hijos de Leví: And he said again to Korah: “Listen, sons of Levi.9¿Os parece acaso poca cosa que el Dios de Israel os haya escogido de entre la Congregación de Israel, allegándoos a Sí, para hacer el servicio de la Habitación de Yahvé, y para estar delante de la Congregación como ministros suyos? Is it a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from all the people, and has joined you to himself, so that you would serve him in the rituals of the tabernacle, and stand before gatherings of the people, and minister to him?10¡Y ahora, después de haceros Él allegados suyos a ti, Coré, y a todos tus hermanos, los hijos de Leví contigo, ambicionáis también el sacerdocio! Was the reason that he caused you and all your brothers, the sons of Levi, to approach him, so that you would even claim for yourselves the priesthood too,11Por eso es que tú, y todo tu grupo os habéis juntado contra Yahvé. Pues ¿qué es Aarón, para que murmuréis contra él?” and so that your entire group would stand against the Lord? For what is Aaron that you should murmur against him?”12Envió Moisés también a llamar a Datan y a Abirón, hijos de Eliab, mas ellos respondieron: “No iremos. Therefore, Moses sent to call for Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, who responded: “We will not come.13¿Es acaso poca cosa el que nos haya sacado de una tierra que mana leche y miel, para hacernos morir en el desierto? ¡Y ahora quieres también erigirte en señor nuestro! Is it a small matter to you, that you have led us away from a land that was flowing with milk and honey, so as to kill us in the desert, unless you could also be a ruler over us?14Tú no nos has traído a una tierra que mana leche y miel; ni nos has dado en posesión campos o viñas. ¿Quieres por ventura sacar a estos hombres los ojos? No iremos.” You have led us, it is true, to a land that flows with streams of milk and honey, and you have given us possession of fields and vineyards. But will you also tear out our eyes? We will not come.”15Moisés se irritó en gran manera, y dijo a Yahvé: “No atiendas a su oblación. Yo no he tomado de ellos ni siquiera un asno, y a nadie de ellos he hecho mal alguno.” And Moses, being very angry, said to the Lord: “Do not look with favor on their sacrifices. You know that I have not accepted from them, at any time, so much as a young donkey, nor have I afflicted any of them.”16Y dijo Moisés a Coré: “Presentaos mañana tú y todo tu grupo ante Yahvé, tú y ellos y Aarón. And he said to Korah: “You and your congregation, stand alone before the Lord, and apart from Aaron, tomorrow.17Y tomad cada uno su incensario, poned incienso en ellos, y llevad cada uno su incensario ante Yahvé: doscientos cincuenta incensarios; tú también y Aarón, cada uno con su incensario.” Let each one of you take censers, and place incense in them, offering to the Lord two hundred fifty censers. Let Aaron also hold his censer.”18Tomaron, pues cada uno su incensario, lo llenaron con fuego y pusieron encima incienso, y se presentaron a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión, juntamente con Moisés y Aarón. When they had done this, Moses and Aaron stood up,19Entre tanto Coré había congregado contra ellos todo el pueblo a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión. Entonces apareció la gloria de Yahvé a todo el pueblo; and, having crowded the entire multitude close to them at the door of the tabernacle, the glory of the Lord appeared to them all.20y Yahvé habló a Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: And the Lord, speaking to Moses and Aaron, said:21“Separaos de este pueblo, que Yo los voy a consumir en un momento.” “Separate yourselves from the midst of this congregation, so that I may suddenly destroy them.”22Mas ellos se prosternaron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron: “¡Oh Dios, Dios de los espíritus de todos los vivientes, uno solo ha pecado, y Tú te aíras contra todo el pueblo!” But they fell prone on their faces, and they said, “O most strong One, the God of the spirits of all flesh, should your anger rage against all, for the sin of one?”23A lo cual contestó Yahvé diciendo a Moisés: And the Lord said to Moses:24“Habla al pueblo y diles: Retiraos de en derredor de las tiendas de Coré, Datan y Abirón.” “Instruct the entire people to separate from the tents of Korah, and Dathan, and Abiram.”25Luego se levantó Moisés y fue hacia Datan y Abirón, siguiéndole los ancianos de Israel. And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram. And the elders of Israel followed him,26Y habló al pueblo diciendo: Apartaos de las tiendas de estos hombres impíos, y no toquéis cosa alguna de ellos, para que no seáis envueltos en todos sus pecados. and he said to the crowd, “Withdraw from the tabernacles of these impious men, and touch nothing which pertains to them, lest you become involved in their sins.”27Y ellos se retiraron de los alrededores de las moradas de Coré, Datan y Abirón, mientras Datan y Abirón salían y se ponían de pie a la entrada de sus tiendas, con sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus pequeñuelos. And when they had withdrawn from their tents all around, Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrance of their pavilions, with their wives and children, and with all their associates.28Dijo entonces Moisés: “En esto conoceréis que Yahvé me ha enviado a hacer todas estas obras, y que no las hice de propia iniciativa: And Moses said: “By this shall you know that the Lord has sent me to do all that you discern, and that I have not brought these things out of my own heart:29Si estos mueren del mismo modo que mueren todos los hombres y si a estos les toca la suerte que toca a todos los mortales, no es Yahvé quien me ha enviado. If these men pass away by the common death of men, or if they will be visited by a scourge, of a kind by which others are often visited, then the Lord did not send me.30Pero si Yahvé hace algo inaudito, de modo que la tierra abriendo su boca se los trague con todo cuanto es suyo y bajen vivos al scheol, conoceréis que estos hombres han despreciado a Yahvé.” But if the Lord accomplishes something new, so that the earth opens its mouth and swallows them whole, along with everything that belongs to them, and they descend alive into the underworld, then you shall know that they have blasphemed the Lord.”31Apenas acabó de decir todas estas palabras, cuando el suelo debajo de ellos se hendió, Therefore, as soon as he had ceased to speak, the earth broke open under their feet.32y la tierra abrió su boca tragándolos a ellos, sus casas y todos los partidarios de Coré, con todos sus bienes. And opening its mouth, it devoured them with their tabernacles and their entire substance.33Descendieron vivos al scheol con todo lo que tenían, y los cubrió la tierra. And they descended alive, the ground closing around them, into the underworld, and they perished from the midst of the multitude.34Y todo Israel que estaba en derredor de ellos, huyó al oír sus alaridos; porque decían: “No sea que nos trague la tierra.” Yet truly, all of Israel, which was standing all around, took flight at the clamor of those who were perishing, saying, “Lest perhaps the earth may swallow us whole also.”35También contra los doscientos cincuenta hombres que habían ofrecido el incienso, salió un fuego de Yahvé y los devoró. Then, too, a fire, going forth from the Lord, put to death the two hundred fifty men who were offering the incense.36Después Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo: And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:37“Di a Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, que recoja los incensarios de en medio del incendio, y esparza a una y otra parte el fuego, porque son santificados. “Instruct Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, to take up the censers which lie in the burning, and to scatter the fire to one side and another, because they were sanctified38De los incensarios de estos que pecaron contra sus propias almas, háganse laminas delgadas, para revestir el altar, pues los han presentado ante Yahvé, por tanto son santificados y servirán de señal para los hijos de Israel.” in the deaths of these sinners. And let him form them into plates, and affix them to the altar, because incense had been offered in them to the Lord, and they were sanctified, and so that the sons of Israel may discern in them a sign and a memorial.”39Tomó, pues, el sacerdote Eleazar los incensarios de bronce que habían presentado los abrasados, y se hicieron de ellos láminas para revestir el altar, Therefore, Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, by which those whom the burning devoured had made an offering, and he formed them into plates, affixing them to the altar,40como advertencia para los hijos de Israel, a fin de que ningún extraño, que no sea del linaje de Aarón, se acerque para quemar incienso ante Yahvé y para que no le acontezca lo mismo que a Coré y a su bando, como se lo había anunciado Yahvé por boca de Moisés. so that the sons of Israel would have, thereafter, something to admonish them, lest any stranger, or anyone who is not of the offspring of Aaron, might approach to offer incense to the Lord, and lest he endure what happened to Korah, and to all his congregation, when the Lord spoke to Moses.41Al día siguiente murmuró todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel contra Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: “Vosotros habéis exterminado al pueblo de Yahvé.” Then, the following day, the entire multitude of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying: “You have put to death the people of the Lord.”42Y como el pueblo se congregase contra Moisés y Aarón, estos volvieron el rostro hacia el Tabernáculo de la Reunión; y, he aquí, que lo cubrió la nube y apareció la gloria de Yahvé. And when there arose a sedition, and the tumult increased,43Fueron, pues, Moisés y Aarón al Tabernáculo de la Reunión; Moses and Aaron fled to the tabernacle of the covenant. But after they had entered it, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.44y Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo: And the Lord said to Moses:45“Retiraos de en medio de este pueblo, que Yo voy a consumirlo en un momento.” Mas ellos se postraron rostro en tierra. “Withdraw from the midst of this multitude, and I will destroy them immediately.” And while they were lying on the ground,46Y dijo Moisés a Aarón: “Toma el incensario, echa en él fuego de encima del altar, y pon incienso, y corre a toda prisa hacia el pueblo y haz expiación por ellos, porque el furor ha salido de la faz de Yahvé y ha comenzado ya la plaga.” Moses said to Aaron: “Take the censer, and draw fire into it from the altar; place incense upon it, and continue on, quickly, to the people, to pray for them. For already wrath has gone forth from the Lord, and the scourge rages.”47Y tomó Aarón (el incensario), como Moisés le había ordenado, y corrió al medio del pueblo, cuando ya comenzaba la plaga en el pueblo; echó incienso e hizo expiación por el pueblo, When Aaron had done this, and he had run into the midst of the multitude, which the burning fire was now destroying, he offered the incense.48colocándose entre los muertos y los vivos, y así se detuvo la plaga. And standing between the dead and the living, he prayed for the people, and the scourge ceased.49Murieron por esta plaga catorce mil setecientos, sin contar a los que perecieron en la sedición de Coré. But the number of those who were struck down was fourteen thousand men, and seven hundred, aside from those who had perished in the sedition of Korah.50Después que cesó la plaga, volvió Aarón adonde estaba Moisés, a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión. And Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of the covenant, after the destruction quieted.
