1Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo: And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:2“Venga a los hijos de Israel por lo que les han hecho los madianitas; después serás reunido con tu pueblo.” “First, avenge the sons of Israel from the Midianites, and then you shall be gathered to your people.”3Y habló Moisés al pueblo, diciendo: “Armad de entre vosotros gente para la guerra, y salgan contra Madián, para ejecutar la venganza de Yahvé contra Madián. And immediately Moses said: “Arm the men among you for a battle, so that they may be able to fulfill the retribution of the Lord on the Midianites.4Enviaréis a la guerra mil hombres de cada tribu de entre todas las tribus de Israel.” Let one thousand men be chosen from each tribe of Israel, who shall be sent to war.”5Fueron entonces elegidos para la guerra doce mil armados de entre los millares de Israel, mil por cada tribu, And they gave one thousand from each tribe, that is, twelve thousand foot soldiers for battle.6los que Moisés envió a la guerra, mil de cada tribu, y con ellos a Finés, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, que llevaba consigo los objetos sagrados y las trompetas de alarma. And when they had fought against the Midianites and had prevailed, they killed all the men.8Además de los hombres matados, dieron muerte a Eví, Requem, Sur, Hur y Reba, cinco reyes de Madián. And they put to death by the sword their kings: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five leaders of the nation, and also Balaam the son of Beor.9Los hijos de Israel tomaron cautivas a las mujeres de Madián con sus niños, y se apoderaron de todo su ganado, de todos sus rebaños y de todos sus bienes; And they seized their women and little ones, and all their cattle, and all their goods; whatever they were able to have, they despoiled.10y quemaron todas las ciudades que habitaban, y todos sus campamentos. But the young girls, and all female virgins, reserve for yourselves.19Y acampad fuera del campamento siete días; todos los que hubiereis matado a un hombre o tocado a un muerto, os purificaréis el día tercero y el día séptimo, así vosotros como vuestros prisioneros. And remain beyond the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed a man, or who has touched one that was killed, shall be purified on the third day and on the seventh day.20Purificaréis también todo vestido, todo objeto de cuero, toda obra hecha de pelo de cabra y todo utensilio de madera.” And all of the spoils, whether it is a garment, or a vessel, or another useful thing, made from the pelts or hair of goats, or from wood, shall be expiated.”21Dijo entonces el sacerdote Eleazar a los hombres del ejército que habían ido a la guerra: “He aquí lo que dispone la Ley que Yahvé ha mandado a Moisés: Likewise, Eleazar the priest spoke in this manner to the men of the army who had fought: “This is the precept of the law, which the Lord has commanded Moses:22El oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo, Gold, and silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin,23en fin, todo objeto que resiste al fuego, lo pasaréis por el fuego, y así quedará puro, con tal que sea purificado con el agua lustral. Mas todo lo que no resiste al fuego, lo pasaréis por el agua. and all that may be able to pass through fire, shall be purified by fire. But whatever is not able to sustain fire shall be sanctified with the waters of expiation.24Y después de haber lavado vuestros vestidos el día séptimo, quedaréis limpios; y luego podréis volver al campamento.” And you shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and, after having been purified, you shall enter the camp.”25Yahvé habló a Moisés diciendo: And the Lord also said to Moses:26“Haz el cómputo de todo el botín que se ha tomado, tanto en hombres como en animales; (hazlo) con el sacerdote Eleazar y las cabezas de las casas paternas del pueblo. “Take the sum of those things which were captured, from man even to beast, you and Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the common people.27Y distribuirás el botín por mitad entre los que como soldados salieron a la guerra y el resto del pueblo. And you shall divide the prey equally, among those who went out to war and fought, and among the remainder of the multitude.28Y de parte de los que como soldados salieron a la guerra, tomarás como tributo para Yahvé de cada quinientas cabezas una, tanto de las personas como del ganado mayor, de los asnos y de las ovejas. And you shall separate a portion for the Lord from the portion of those who fought and were in the battle: one soul out of five hundred, as much from humans, as from oxen and donkeys and sheep.29Lo tomarás de la mitad que les toca, y lo darás a Eleazar el sacerdote, como tributo para Yahvé. And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest, because these are the first-fruits of the Lord.30De la otra mitad perteneciente a los hijos de Israel, tomarás, al azar, uno de cada cincuenta, tanto de las personas como del ganado mayor, de los asnos y de las ovejas, en fin, de todos los animales; y lo darás a los levitas, encargados de cuidar la Morada de Yahvé.” Likewise, from the half of the portion belonging to the sons of Israel, you shall receive the fiftieth head of humans, and of oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, and of all living things, and you shall give these to the Levites who stand watch over the care of the tabernacle of the Lord.”31Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron como Yahvé había mandado a Moisés. And Moses and Eleazar did just as the Lord had instructed.32Y era la presa, el resto del botín tomado por la gente del ejército: seiscientas setenta y cinco mil ovejas, Now the prey which the army had seized was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,33setenta y dos mil cabezas de ganado bovino, seventy-two thousand oxen,34sesenta y un mil asnos, sixty-one thousand donkeys,35y personas, es decir, las mujeres que no habían conocido varón, todas ellas fueron treinta y dos mil. and thirty-two thousand human lives, of the female sex, who had not known men.36La mitad que tocaba a los que habían salido a la guerra fue: trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas And one half of the portion was given to those who had been in the battle: three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep.37y el tributo para Yahvé: seiscientas setenta y cinco ovejas— From these, for the portion of the Lord, there were accounted: six hundred seventy-five sheep;38treinta y seis mil cabezas de ganado bovino —y el tributo para Yahvé: setenta y dos—; and from the thirty-six thousand oxen, seventy-two oxen;39treinta mil quinientos asnos —y el tributo para Yahvé: setenta y uno—; from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, sixty-one donkeys.40y diez y seis mil personas —y el tributo para Yahvé: treinta y dos personas—. From the sixteen thousand human souls, there fell to the portion of the Lord thirty-two souls.41Entregó Moisés el tributo que correspondía como ofrenda a Yahvé, al sacerdote Eleazar, como Yahvé había ordenado a Moisés. And Moses delivered the number of the first-fruits of the Lord to Eleazar the priest, just as had been commanded of him,42Y de la mitad perteneciente a los hijos de Israel, la cual Moisés había separado de la de los combatientes, from the one half portion belonging to the sons of Israel, which he had separated from the portion of those who had been in the battle.43esta mitad que correspondía al pueblo fue: trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas, Yet truly, from the one half portion which fell to the remainder of the multitude, that is, from the three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,44treinta y seis mil cabezas de ganado bovino, and from the thirty-six thousand oxen,45treinta mil quinientos asnos, and from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,46y diez y seis mil personas. and from the sixteen thousand persons,47De esta mitad correspondiente a los hijos de Israel tomó Moisés, al azar, uno de cada cincuenta, tanto de las personas como de los animales y los dio a los levitas, encargados de la guardia de la Morada de Yahvé, conforme Yahvé había mandado a Moisés. Moses took the fiftieth head, and gave it to the Levites who stand watch at the tabernacle of the Lord, just as the Lord had instructed.48Llegaron entonces a Moisés los jefes de las unidades del ejército, los jefes de los millares y los jefes de las centenas, And when the leaders of the army, and the tribunes, and the centurions had approached Moses, they said:49y dijeron a Moisés: “Tus siervos han hecho el cómputo de los combatientes que han estado a nuestras órdenes, y no falta ni uno de nosotros. “We, your servants, have taken a census of the number of the fighting men, whom we had under our hand, and indeed not one was lacking.50Por lo cual presentamos como obligación a Yahvé, los objetos de oro que cada uno de nosotros ha encontrado: brazaletes, cadenillas, anillos, pendientes y collares, en expiación por nosotros ante Yahvé. For this reason, we offer as gifts to the Lord whatever gold each one was able to find amid the spoils, in anklets and arm bands, rings and bracelets, and little chains, so that you may intercede for us to the Lord.”51Recibieron, pues, Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar de parte de ellos el oro y todos los objetos de arte. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received all the gold in its various kinds,52Y todo el oro que presentaron a Yahvé como ofrenda de los jefes de los millares y de los jefes de las centenas pesó diez y seis mil setecientos cincuenta siclos. weighing sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels, from the tribunes and the centurions.53Los combatientes se habían tomado cada cual su botín.
