1Se acercaron los jefes de las casas paternas de la familia de los hijos de Galaad, hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, de entre las familias de los hijos de José y dirigiéndose a Moisés y a los príncipes, jefes de las casas paternas de los hijos de Israel, Then the leaders of the families of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the stock of the sons of Joseph, approached and spoke to Moses before the leaders of Israel, and they said:2dijeron: “Yahvé mandó a mi señor dar por suertes la tierra de herencia a los hijos de Israel; también recibió mi señor orden de Yahvé de dar la herencia de nuestro hermano Salfaad a sus hijas. “The Lord has instructed you, our ruler, so that you would divide the land by lot to the sons of Israel, and so that you would give to the daughters of Zelophehad, our brother, the possession owed to their father.3Mas si ellas se casan con uno de los hijos de las (otras) tribus de los israelitas, la herencia de ellas será sustraída a la herencia de nuestros padres, y aumentará la herencia de la tribu de la cual ellas formen parte, disminuyéndose así la herencia que nos tocó en suerte. But if men of another tribe receive them as wives, their possession will follow them, and having been transferred to another tribe, there will be a reduction in our inheritance.4Y cuando viene el año jubilar para los hijos de Israel, la herencia de ellas será agregada a la herencia de la tribu a la cual pertenezcan, y así su herencia será cortada de la herencia de la tribu de nuestros padres.” And so it may be that, when the Jubilee of remission, that is, the fiftieth year, has arrived, the distribution by lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall be transferred to others.”5Entonces Moisés, por mandato de Yahvé, dio esta orden a los hijos de Israel: “Ha dicho bien la tribu de los hijos de José. Moses answered the sons of Israel, and, at the instruction of the Lord, he said: “The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken correctly.6He aquí lo que manda Yahvé respecto de las hijas de Salfaad: Cásense como mejor les parezca, con tal que sea con una familia de la tribu de su padre, And so, this is the law which has been promulgated by the Lord about the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them marry whomever they may wish, but only among the men of their own tribe,7para que la herencia de los hijos de Israel no pase de una tribu a la otra; así que los hijos de Israel queden vinculados cada uno con la herencia de la tribu de sus padres. lest the possession of the sons of Israel become commingled, from tribe to tribe. For all men shall take wives from their own tribe and kinship;8Toda hija que tenga herencia en una de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, se casará dentro de la familia de la tribu de su padre; a fin de que los hijos de Israel conserven cada uno la herencia de sus padres. and all women shall take husbands from their same tribe, so that the inheritance may remain within the families,9Ninguna herencia pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que las tribus de los hijos de Israel conserven cada una su herencia.” and so that the tribes may not be mingled together, but may remain such as they were separated by the Lord.”10Como había mandado Yahvé a Moisés, así lo hicieron las hijas de Salfaad; And the daughters of Zelophehad acted according to what was ordered.11de modo que Maalá, Tirsá, Hoglá, Milcá y Noá, las hijas de Salfaad, se casaron con hijos de sus tíos. And Mahlah, and Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noa were wed to the sons of their paternal uncle,12Se casaron en familia de los hijos de Manasés, hijo de José; y quedó su herencia en la tribu de la familia de su padre. from the family of Manasseh, who was a son of Joseph. And the possession which had been distributed to them remained in the tribe and family of their father.13Estos son los preceptos y las leyes que prescribió Yahvé, por boca de Moisés, a los hijos de Israel, en las campiñas de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó. These are the commandments and judgments which the Lord ordered by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel, in the plains of Moab, above the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
