Proverbios 1

¹Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel: The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,²para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, para entender las palabras sensatas; in order to know wisdom and discipline,³para instruirse en la sabiduría, en la justicia, equidad y rectitud; to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,⁴para enseñar discernimiento a los sencillos, y a los jóvenes conocimientos y discreción. so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.⁵Escuche el sabio y acrecerá en saber. El hombre inteligente adquirirá maestría By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.⁶en entender las parábolas y su sentido misterioso, las sentencias de los sabios y sus enigmas. He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.⁷El temor de Yahvé es el principio de la sabiduría; solo los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la doctrina. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.⁸Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre; y no deseches las enseñanzas de tu madre. Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,⁹Serán una corona de gracia para tu cabeza, un collar para tu cuello. so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.¹⁰Hijo mío, si los malvados quieren seducirte, no les des oído; My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.¹¹si te dicen: “Ven con nosotros; pongamos asechanzas a la vida ajena, tendamos por mero antojo celadas al inocente; If they should say: “Come with us. Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.²⁴Os convidé y no respondisteis, tendí mis manos, y nadie prestó atención; For I called, and you refused. You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.²⁶Por eso también yo me reiré de vuestra calamidad, y me burlaré cuando os sobrevenga el espanto, Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.²⁷cuando os sobrevenga cual huracán el terror, cuando caiga sobre vosotros, como torbellino, la calamidad, y os acometan la angustia y la tribulación. When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,²⁸Entonces me llamarán, y no les responderé; madrugarán a buscarme, y no me hallarán, then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.²⁹por cuanto aborrecieron la instrucción y abandonaron el temor de Dios, For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;³⁰no amando mi consejo, y desdeñando mis exhortaciones. they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.³¹Comerán los frutos de su conducta, y se saciarán de sus propios consejos. Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.³²Porque la indocilidad lleva a los necios a la muerte, y la prosperidad de los insensatos es causa de su ruina. The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.³³Mas el que me escucha, habitará seguro, y vivirá tranquilo sin temer el mal. But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”
