Proverbios 22
1Vale más el buen nombre que grandes riquezas, y más que la plata y el oro, la buena estima. A good name is better than many riches. And good esteem is above silver and gold.2El rico y el pobre viven en mutua oposición; sin embargo, a entrambos los hizo Yahvé. The rich and poor have met one another. The Lord is the maker of them both.3El prudente ve venir el mal, y se precave, el necio pasa adelante y sufre el daño. The clever saw evil and hid himself. The innocent continued on and was afflicted with damage.4Frutos de la humildad son: el temor de Dios, riqueza, honra y vida. The end of moderation is the fear of the Lord, riches and glory and life.5Espinas y lazos hay en el camino del perverso; guarda su alma quien se aleja de ellos. Weapons and swords are on the way of the perverse. But he who guards his own soul withdraws far from them.6Enseña al niño el camino que debe seguir, y llegado a la vejez no se apartará de él. The proverb is: A youth is close to his way; even when he is old, he will not withdraw from it.7El rico domina a los pobres, y el que toma prestado sirve al que le presta. The rich rule over the poor. And the borrower is servant to the lender.8Quien siembra iniquidad cosecha desdicha, y será quebrada la vara de su furor. Whoever sows iniquity will reap evils, and by the rod of his own wrath he will be consumed.9El ojo compasivo será bendito, porque parte su pan con el pobre. Whoever is inclined to mercy shall be blessed, for from his bread he has given to the poor. Whoever gives gifts will acquire victory and honor. But he carries away the soul of the receiver.10Echa fuera al altivo, y se irá la discordia, cesarán las contiendas y las afrentas. Cast out the one who ridicules, and conflict will go out with him, and accusations and insults will cease.11Quien ama la pureza de corazón y tiene la gracia del bien hablar, es amigo del rey. Whoever loves cleanness of heart, because of the grace of his lips, will have the king as his friend.12Los ojos de Yahvé protegen a los sabios, pues Él desbarata los planes de los pérfidos. The eyes of the Lord watch over knowledge. And the words of the iniquitous are supplanted.13Dice el perezoso: “Un león anda por la calle; seré devorado en medio de la plaza.” The lazy one says: “There is a lion outside. I might be slain in the midst of the streets.”14Fosa profunda es la boca de la extraña; quien es objeto de la ira de Yahvé cae en ella. The mouth of a foreign woman is a deep pit; the Lord was angry with him who will fall into it.15La necedad se pega al corazón del joven, mas la vara de corrección la arroja fuera. Foolishness has been bound to the heart of a child, and a rod of discipline shall cause it to flee.16Quien oprime al pobre, lo enriquece; quien da al rico, lo empobrece. Whoever slanders the poor, so as to augment his own riches, will give it away to one who is richer, and will be in need.17Inclina tu oído y escucha las palabras de los sabios; aplica tu corazón a mis enseñanzas; Incline your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Then apply your heart to my doctrine.18porque es cosa dulce conservarlas en tu corazón, y tenerlas siempre prontas en tus labios. It shall be beautiful to you, if you preserve it in your inner self, and it shall overflow from your lips,19Para que tu confianza se apoye en Yahvé, quiero hoy darte esta instrucción. so that your confidence may be in the Lord. Therefore, I also have revealed it to you this day.20¿No te he escrito cosas excelentes en forma de consejos y enseñanzas, Behold, I have written it for you in three ways, and with meditations and knowledge,21para mostrarte la certeza de las palabras de verdad, a fin de que sepas dar claras respuestas a tus mandantes? so that I might reveal to you, firmly and with words of truth, in order to respond about these things to those who sent you.22No despojes al pobre, porque es pobre, ni oprimas en juicio al desvalido; Do not act with violence toward the pauper because he is poor. And do not weary the needy at the gate.23pues Yahvé defenderá su causa y quitará la vida a los que lo despojan. For the Lord will judge his case, and he will pierce those who have pierced his soul.24No seas de aquellos que se obligan con aquel que no puede dominar su furor, Do not be willing to be a friend to an angry man, and do not walk with a furious man,25no sea que aprendas sus caminos, y prepares un lazo para tu alma. lest perhaps you learn his ways, and take up a stumbling block to your soul.26No seas de aquellos que se obligan con apretón de manos, y por deudas ajenas prestan caución. Do not be willing to be with those who certify with their hands, and who offer themselves as a guarantee against debts.27Porque si no tienes con qué pagar, te quitarán la cama de debajo de tu cabeza. For if you do not have the means to restore, what reason should there be for him to take the covering from your bed?28No trasplantes los hitos antiguos, los que plantaron tus padres. Do not cross beyond the ancient limits that your fathers have set.29Mira al hombre hábil en su trabajo; ante los reyes estará y no quedará entre la plebe. Have you seen a man swift in his work? He shall stand in the sight of kings, and not before those who are disreputable.
