Proverbios 31
1Palabras del rey Lamuel, de Masa, (sentencias) que le enseñó su madre. The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:2¿Qué, hijo mío, qué, hijo de mis entrañas, que, hijo de mis votos (te diré)? “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?3No des tu vigor a las mujeres, ni tu fuerza a las que son la ruina de los reyes. Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.4No conviene a los reyes, Lamuel; no conviene a los reyes beber vino, ni a los príncipes, tomar bebidas embriagantes. Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.5Si los toman se olvidan de la ley, y pervierten el derecho de los pobres. And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.6Dad los licores a los que perecen, y el vino a los amargos de espíritu. Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.7Beban y olviden su miseria, y no se acuerden más de sus penas. Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.8Abre tu boca en favor del mudo, en defensa de todos los desamparados. Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.9Abre tu boca para juzgar con justicia, y haz justicia al desvalido y al pobre. Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.10Una mujer fuerte, ¿quién podrá hallarla? Mucho mayor que de perlas es su precio. Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.11Confía en ella el corazón de su marido, el cual no tiene necesidad de tomar botín (a otros). The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.12Le hace siempre bien, y nunca mal, todos los días de su vida. She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.13Busca lana y lino y trabaja con la destreza de sus manos. She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.14Es como navío de mercader, trae de lejos su pan. She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.15Se levanta antes que amanezca, para distribuir la comida a su casa, y la tarea a sus criadas. And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.16Pone la mira en un campo y lo compra; con el fruto de sus manos planta una viña. She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.17Se ciñe de fortaleza, y arma de fuerza sus brazos. She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.18Ve gustosa las ricas ganancias; no se apaga su lámpara durante la noche. She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.19Aplica sus manos a la rueca; y sus dedos manejan el huso. She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.20Abre su mano al pobre, y la alarga al mendigo. She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.21No teme por su familia a causa de la nieve, pues todos los de su casa tienen vestidos forrados. She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.22Labra ella alfombras de fino lino; y púrpura es su vestido. She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.23Conocido en las puertas es su marido, cuando se sienta entre los senadores del país. Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.24Fabrica telas y las pone en venta, vende ceñidores al mercader. She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.25Fortaleza y gracia forman su traje, y está alegre ante el porvenir. Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.26Abre su boca con sabiduría, y la ley del amor gobierna su lengua. She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.27Vela sobre la conducta de su familia, y no come ociosa el pan. She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.28Álzanse sus hijos, y la llaman bendita. La ensalza también su marido: Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.29“Muchas hijas obraron proezas; pero tú superas a todas.” Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.30Engañosa es la belleza, y un soplo la hermosura. La mujer que teme a Yahvé, esa es digna de alabanza. Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.31Dadle del fruto de sus manos, y sus obras sean su alabanza ante el pueblo. Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.
