Proverbios 6
1Hijo mío, si saliste fiador de tu prójimo. Si tendiste tu mano a un extraño, My son, if you have taken a pledge on behalf of your friend, then you have bound your hand to an outsider,2si te ligaste con la palabra de tu boca, y quedaste preso por lo que dijeron tus labios, then you are ensnared by the words of your own mouth, and taken captive by your own words.3haz esto, hijo mío: Recobra la libertad; ya que has caído en manos de tu prójimo. Ve sin tardanza e importuna a tu amigo. Therefore, my son, do what I say, and free yourself, for you have fallen into the hand of your neighbor. Run, hurry, awaken your friend.4No concedas sueño a tus ojos, ni reposo a tus párpados. Do not grant sleep to your eyes, nor let your eyelids slumber.5Líbrate, como el corzo, de su mano, como el pájaro de la mano del cazador. Rescue yourself like a gazelle from the hand, and like a bird from the hand of the fowler.6Ve, oh perezoso, a la hormiga; observa su obra y hazte sabio. When will you rise up from your sleep?10Un poco dormir, un poco dormitar, cruzar un poco las manos para descansar; You will sleep a little, you will slumber a little, you will fold your hands a little to sleep,11y te sobrevendrá cual salteador la miseria, y la necesidad cual hombre armado. and then destitution will meet with you, like a traveler, and poverty, like an armed man. Yet truly, if you would be diligent, then your harvest will arrive like a fountain, and destitution will flee far from you.12Hijo de Belial es el hombre inicuo, anda con perversidad en la boca, An apostate man, a harmful man, walks with a perverse mouth;13guiña los ojos, hace señas con los pies, habla con los dedos. he winks with the eyes, touches with the foot, speaks with the finger.14En su corazón habita la perversidad; urde el mal en todo tiempo, y siembra discordias. To this one, his perdition will arrive promptly, and he shall be crushed suddenly: he will no longer have any remedy.16Seis son las cosas que aborrece Yahvé, y una séptima abomina su alma: Six things there are that the Lord hates, and the seventh, his soul detests:17Ojos altivos, lengua mentirosa, manos que vierten sangre inocente, haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,18corazón que maquina designios perversos, pies que corren ligeros tras el mal, a heart that devises the most wicked thoughts, feet running swiftly unto evil,19testigo falso que respira calumnias, y quien siembra discordia entre hermanos. a deceitful witness bringing forth lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.20Guarda, hijo mío, la doctrina de tu padre; y no desprecies la enseñanza de tu madre. My son, preserve the precepts of your father, and do not dismiss the law of your mother.21Tenlas siempre atadas a tu corazón, enguirnalda con ellas tu cuello. Bind them to your heart unceasingly, and encircle them around your throat.22Te guiarán en tu camino, velarán por ti cuando durmieres; y hablarán contigo al despertar. When you walk, let them keep step with you. When you sleep, let them guard you. And when you keep watch, speak with them.23Porque el precepto es una antorcha, y la ley una luz, y senda de vida son las amonestaciones dadas para corrección. For commandment is a lamp, and law is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.24Pues te guardarán de la mala mujer, de los halagos seductores de la ajena. So may they guard you from an evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the outsider.25No codicies en tu corazón la hermosura de ella, no te seduzcan sus ojos. Would a man be able to conceal fire in his bosom, so that his garments would not burn?28¿O andar sobre brasas, sin quemarse los pies? Or could he walk over burning coals, so that his feet would not be burned?29Así (sucede con) aquel que se llega a la mujer de su prójimo; no quedará sin castigo quien la tocare. So also, he who enters to the wife of his neighbor shall not be clean when he touches her.30¿No es acaso despreciado el ladrón que roba para saciar su apetito cuando tiene hambre? Not so great is the fault when someone has stolen. For he steals so as to satisfy a hungry soul.31Si es hallado, ha de pagar siete veces otro tanto, tendrá que dar hasta toda la sustancia de su casa. Also, if he is apprehended, he shall repay sevenfold and hand over all the substance of his house.32Quien comete adulterio con una mujer es un insensato; quien hace tal cosa se arruina a sí mismo. But whoever is an adulterer, because of the emptiness of his heart, will destroy his own soul.33Cosechará azotes e ignominia, y no se borrará su afrenta. He gathers shame and dishonor to himself, and his disgrace will not be wiped away.34Porque los celos excitan el furor del marido, y no tendrá compasión en el día de la venganza; For the jealousy and fury of the husband will not spare him on the day of vindication,35no se aplacará por ninguna indemnización; no aceptará regalos, por grandes que sean. nor will he agree to the pleadings of anyone, nor will he accept, as repayment, a multitude of gifts.
