Romanos 13
1Todos han de someterse a las potestades superiores; porque no hay potestad que no esté bajo Dios, y las que hay han sido ordenadas por Dios. Let every soul be subject to higher authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those who have been ordained by God.2Por donde el que resiste a la potestad, resiste a la ordenación de Dios; y los que resisten se hacen reos de juicio. And so, whoever resists authority, resists what has been ordained by God. And those who resist are acquiring damnation for themselves.3Porque los magistrados no son de temer para las obras buenas, sino para las malas. ¿Quieres no tener que temer a la autoridad? Obra lo que es bueno, y tendrás de ella alabanza; For leaders are not a source of fear to those who work good, but to those who work evil. And would you prefer not to be afraid of authority? Then do what is good, and you shall have praise from them.4pues ella es contigo ministro de Dios para el bien. Mas si obrares lo que es malo, teme; que no en vano lleva la espada; porque es ministro de Dios, vengador, para (ejecutar) ira contra aquel que obra el mal. For he is a minister of God for you unto good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid. For it is not without reason that he carries a sword. For he is a minister of God; an avenger to execute wrath upon whomever does evil.5Por tanto es necesario someterse, no solamente por el castigo, sino también por conciencia. For this reason, it is necessary to be subject, not solely because of wrath, but also because of conscience.6Por esta misma razón pagáis también tributos; porque son ministros de Dios, ocupados asiduamente en este asunto. Therefore, you must also offer tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving him in this.7Pagad a todos lo que les debéis: a quien tributo, tributo; a quien impuesto, impuesto; a quien temor, temor; a quien honor, honor. Therefore, render to all whatever is owed. Taxes, to whom taxes is due; revenue, to whom revenue is due; fear, to whom fear is due; honor, to whom honor is due.8No tengáis con nadie deuda sino el amaros unos a otros; porque quien ama al prójimo, ha cumplido la Ley. You should owe nothing to anyone, except so as to love one another. For whoever loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.9Pues aquello de: “No cometerás adulterio; no matarás; no hurtarás; no codiciarás”; y cualquier otro mandamiento que haya, en esta palabra se resume: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”. For example: You shall not commit adultery. You shall not kill. You shall not steal. You shall not speak false testimony. You shall not covet. And if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.10El amor no hace mal al prójimo. Por donde el amor es la plenitud de la Ley. The love of neighbor does no harm. Therefore, love is the plenitude of the law.11Y (obrad) esto, conociendo el tiempo, que ya es hora de levantaros del sueño; porque ahora la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando abrazamos la fe. And we know the present time, that now is the hour for us to rise up from sleep. For already our salvation is closer than when we first believed.12La noche está avanzada, y el día está cerca; desechemos por tanto las obras de las tinieblas, y vistámonos las armas de luz. The night has passed, and the day draws near. Therefore, let us cast aside the works of darkness, and be clothed with the armor of light.13Andemos como de día, honestamente, no en banquetes y borracheras, no en lechos y lascivias, no en contiendas y rivalidades; Let us walk honestly, as in the daylight, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and sexual immorality, not in contention and envy.14antes bien, vestíos del Señor Jesucristo y no os preocupéis de servir a la carne en orden a sus concupiscencias. Instead, be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in its desires.
