1Dios creó de la tierra al hombre, formándole a imagen suya; God created man from the earth, and he made him according to his own image.2mas le hizo volver a ser tierra, y le revistió de poder conforme a su ser. And he returned him again to it, and he clothed him with virtue according to himself.3Le señaló determinado tiempo, y número de días; y le dio potestad sobre las cosas que hay en la tierra. He gave him the number and time of his days, and he gave him authority over all the things that are upon the earth.4Le hizo temible a todos los animales; y le dio el dominio sobre las bestias, y sobre las aves. He placed the fear of him over all flesh, and he had dominion over wild beasts and flying things.5De la sustancia del mismo formó Dios una ayuda semejante a él; les dio razón y lengua, ojos y oídos e ingenio para inventar, y los llenó de las luces del entendimiento. He created from him a helper, similar to himself. He gave them counsel, and language, and sight, and hearing, and a heart, in order to think. And he filled them with the discipline of understanding.6Creó en ellos la ciencia del espíritu; les llenó el corazón de discernimiento, y les hizo conocer los bienes y los males. He created within them the knowledge of the spirit. He filled their heart with understanding, and he showed them both good and evil.7Puso su ojo sobre sus corazones, para mostrarles la magnificencia de sus obras; He set his eye upon their hearts, to reveal to them the greatness of his works,8a fin de que alaben su santo nombre, y ensalcen sus maravillas, y publiquen la grandeza de sus obras. so that they might highly praise the name of sanctification, and give glory to his wonders, so that they might declare the greatness of his works.9Les añadió instrucción, y les dio por herencia la ley de vida. In addition, he gave them discipline and the law of life, as their inheritance.10Asentó con ellos una alianza eterna, e les hizo conocer su justicia y sus preceptos. He established an eternal covenant with them, and he revealed to them his justice and judgments.11Vieron con los propios ojos la grandeza de su gloria, y la majestad de su voz les hirió los oídos, y les dijo: “Guardaos de toda suerte de iniquidad.” And their eye saw the greatness of his honor, and their ears heard the honor of his voice, and he said to them: “Beware of all iniquity.”12Y mandó a cada uno de ellos el amor a su prójimo. And he commanded each one concerning his neighbor.13Están siempre a su vista los procederes de ellos; no pueden encubrirse a sus ojos. Their ways are always in his sight; they are not hidden from his eyes.14A todas las naciones señaló quien las gobernase; Over each and every people, he has appointed a ruler.15mas Israel fue visiblemente porción de Dios. And Israel was made to be the manifest portion of God.16Todas las obras de ellos están como el sol en la presencia de Dios; cuyos ojos están siempre fijos sobre sus procederes. And in the sight of God, all their works are like the sun. And his eyes, without ceasing, inspect their ways.17Ni por sus maldades quedó oscurecida la alianza, y todas sus iniquidades están a la vista de Dios. The covenants are not hidden by their iniquity, and all their iniquities are in the sight of God.18La limosna del hombre la guarda como un sello, y tendrá cuidado de las buenas obras del hombre como de las niñas de sus ojos. The almsgiving of a man is like a seal upon him, which will guard the grace of a man like the pupil of an eye.19Después se levantará y les dará el pago, a cada uno en particular, y los enviará al profundo de la tierra. And afterward, it will rise up and repay them their reward, each one upon his head, and it will return to the hidden places of the earth.20Pero a los que se arrepienten les concede el volver a la justicia, y les da fuerzas, cuando les faltan para ir adelante, y destinó para ellos el premio de la verdad. Now, to the repentant, he has given the way of justice, and he has strengthened those lacking in patience, and he has fastened them to a destiny of truth.21Conviértete al Señor, y abandona tus vicios. Convert to the Lord, and relinquish your sins.22Haz oración ante la presencia del Señor, y remueve las ocasiones de caer. Make supplication before the face of the Lord, and diminish your offenses.23Conviértete al Señor, y vuelve las espaldas a tu iniquidad, y aborrece sumamente todo lo que es abominable. Return to the Lord, and turn away from your injustice, and have immense hatred for abomination.24Estudia los mandamientos y los juicios de Dios, y sé constante en el estado que se te ha propuesto, y en la oración al altísimo Dios. And acknowledge the justices and judgments of God, and stand firm in the circumstances set before you and in prayer to the most high God.25Entra en la compañía del siglo santo, con aquellos que viven, y dan alabanza a Dios. Go to the side of the holy generation, to those who live in order to give praise to God.26No te pares en el camino errado de los malos. Alaba a Dios antes de morir; pues el muerto, como si no fuese, no puede alabarle. You should not linger in the error of the impious; confess before death. Confession perishes from the dead as if it were nothing.27Vivo, vivo le has de alabar, y estando sano has de confesar y alabar a Dios, y gloriarte en sus misericordias. Confess while living; you should give thanks while you are still alive and healthy. And you should praise God and glory in his compassion.28¡Oh, cuán grande es la misericordia del Señor, y cuánta su clemencia para con los que a Él se convierten! How great is the mercy of the Lord, and his forgiveness, for those who convert to him!29Porque no todas las cosas pueden hallarse en el hombre, puesto que no existe ningún hijo del hombre que sea inmortal, y que no se complazca en la vanidad y en la malicia. For not all things can be in men, because the son of man is not immortal, and because they are pleased by the emptiness of malice.30¿Qué cosa hay más resplandeciente que el sol? y este también se eclipsa. O, ¿qué cosa más torpe que los pensamientos de carne y sangre?, pero no han de quedar ellos sin castigo. What is brighter than the sun? Yet this will fail. Or what is more wicked than that which flesh and blood has invented? And this will be reproved.31Aquel ve en torno de sí las virtudes del altísimo cielo; mas todos los hombres son polvo y ceniza. He beholds the power of the heights of heaven. And all men are earth and ashes.
