1Hijo, entrando en el servicio de Dios, persevera firme en la justicia, y en el temor, y prepara tu alma para la tentación. Son, when you apply yourself to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare your soul for temptation.2Humilla tu corazón, y ten paciencia; inclina tus oídos y recibe los consejos prudentes; y no agites tu espíritu en tiempo de la oscuridad. Humble your heart, and persevere. Incline your ear, and accept words of understanding. And you should not hurry away in the time of distress.3Aguarda con paciencia lo que esperas de Dios. Estréchate con Dios, y ten paciencia, para que a tu fin sea próspera tu vida. Endure steadfastly for God. Join yourself to God, and persevere, so that your life may increase in the very end.4Acepta todo cuanto te enviare, en los dolores sufre con constancia, y lleva con paciencia tu abatimiento. Accept everything that will happen to you, and persevere in your sorrow, and have patience in your humiliation.5Pues como en el fuego se prueba el oro y la plata, así los hombres aceptos se prueban en la fragua de la humillación. For gold and silver are tested in fire, yet truly, acceptable men are tested in the furnace of humiliation.6Confía en Dios, y Él te sacará a salvo; endereza tu camino, y espera en Él; conserva su temor, hasta el fin de tus días. Believe God, and he will restore you to health. And straighten your way, and hope in him. Observe his fear, and grow old in it.7Vosotros los temerosos del Señor, aguardad su misericordia; nunca os desviéis de Él, porque no caigáis. You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy. And do not turn away from him, lest you fall.8Los que teméis al Señor, creed a Él; pues no se malogrará vuestro galardón. You who fear the Lord, believe in him. And your reward will not be taken away.9Los que teméis al Señor, esperad en Él; que su misericordia vendrá a consolaros. You who fear the Lord, hope in him. And mercy will approach you, to your delight.10Los que teméis al Señor, amadle y serán iluminados vuestros corazones. You who fear the Lord, love him. And your hearts will be illuminated.11Contemplad, hijos, las generaciones de los hombres: y veréis cómo ninguno, que confió en el Señor, quedó burlado. My sons, consider the nations of men, and know that not one of them hoped in the Lord and was confounded.12Porque, ¿quién perseveró en sus mandamientos que fuese desamparado? ¿O quién le invocó que haya sido despreciado? For who has remained in his commandment and been abandoned? Or who has called upon him, and yet he despised him?13Pues Dios es benigno y misericordioso; en el día de la tribulación perdonará los pecados; y es protector de cuantos de veras le buscan. For God is upright and merciful, and he will forgive sins in the day of tribulation. And he is the Protector to all those who seek him in truth.14¡Ay del que es de corazón doble, y de labios malvados, y de manos facinerosas! ¡Ay del pecador que anda sobre la tierra por dos senderos! Woe to the duplicitous heart, and to the wicked lips, and to the hands that do evil, and to the sinner who walks the earth by two ways!15¡Ay de los hombres de corazón flojo, que no confían en Dios, que por lo mismo no serán protegidos por Él! Woe to the dissolute in heart, who do not trust God! For, as a result, they will not be protected by him.16¡Ay de los que pierden la paciencia, y abandonan los caminos rectos, y se van por sendas torcidas! Woe to those who have lost endurance, and who have abandoned upright ways, and who have turned aside to depraved ways!17¿Qué harán cuando comience el Señor su juicio? And what will they do when the Lord begins to examine them?18Los que temen al Señor no dejarán de creer en su palabra; y los que le aman seguirán su camino. Those who fear the Lord will not be unbelieving toward his Word. And those who love him will keep to his way.19Los que temen al Señor inquirirán lo que le es agradable; y aquellos que le aman estarán penetrados de su ley. Those who fear the Lord will seek the things that are well-pleasing to him. And those who love him will be filled with his law.20Los que temen al Señor prepararán sus corazones; y en la presencia de Él santificarán sus almas. Those who fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and they will sanctify their souls in his sight.21Los que temen al Señor guardan sus mandamientos; y tendrán paciencia hasta el día que los visite, Those who fear the Lord keep his commandments, and they will have patience even until his examination,22diciendo: Si no hacemos penitencia, caeremos en las manos del Señor, y no en manos de hombres. saying: “If we do not do penance, then we will fall into the hands of the Lord, and not into the hands of men.”23Porque cuanto Él es grande, otro tanto es misericordioso. For according to his greatness, so also is his mercy with him.
