Eclesiástico 3
1Los hijos de la sabiduría, son la congregación de los justos; y la estirpe de ellos es obediencia y amor. The sons of wisdom are the Church of the just: and their generation is obedience and love.2Escuchad, hijos, los preceptos de vuestro padre, y hacedlo así, si queréis salvaros. Sons, listen to the judgment of your father, and act accordingly, so that you may be saved.3Porque Dios quiso honrar al padre en los hijos, y vindica y confirma la autoridad de la madre sobre ellos. For God has honored the father in the sons, and, when seeking the judgment of the mother, he has confirmed it in the children.4Quien ama a Dios alcanzará perdón de los pecados; se abstendrá de ellos y será oído siempre que le ruegue. He who loves God will plead with him on behalf of sins, and will keep himself away from sin, and will be heeded in the prayers of his days.5Como quien acumula tesoros, así es el que tributa honor a su madre. And, like one who stores up treasure, so also is he who honors his mother.6Quien honra a su padre, tendrá consuelo en sus hijos, y al tiempo de su oración será oído. He who honors his father will find happiness in his own children, and he will be heeded in the day of his prayer.7El que honra a su padre, vivirá larga vida; y da consuelo a la madre quien al padre obedece. He who honors his father will live a long life. And he who obeys his father will be a refreshment to his mother.8Quien teme al Señor, honra a sus padres; y sirve, como a sus señores, a los que le dieron el ser. He who fears the Lord honors his parents, and he will serve them as masters, for it is they who conceived him.9Honra a tu padre con obras, y con palabras y con toda paciencia; In word and deed, and in all things, honor your father with patience,10para que venga sobre ti su bendición, la cual te acompañe hasta el fin. so that a blessing may come to you from him, and so that his blessing may remain to the very end.11La bendición del padre afirma las casas de los hijos; mas la maldición de la madre les arruina los cimientos. The blessing of the father strengthens the houses of the sons; but the curse of the mother uproots even its foundation.12No te alabes de la afrenta de tu padre, porque no es gloria tuya su ignominia; Do not boast in the disgrace of your father; for his shame is not your glory.13puesto que de la buena reputación del padre resulta gloria al hombre, y es desdoro del hijo un padre sin honra. For the glory of a man is from the honor of his father, and a father without honor is a discredit to the son.14Hijo, alivia la vejez de tu padre, y no le des pesadumbres en su vida. Son, support your father in his old age, and do not grieve him in his life.15Si llegare a volverse como un niño, compadécele, y jamás le desprecies por tener tú más vigor que él; porque la beneficencia con el padre no quedará en olvido. And if his mind should fail, show kindness; and do not spurn him when you are in your strength. For almsgiving to the father will never be forgotten.16Por los defectos de la madre recibirás tu recompensa. For even in return for the sin of the mother, good will be repaid to you.17La justicia será el fundamento de tu casa; y en el día de la tribulación se hará memoria de ti; como en un día sereno se deshace el hielo, de igual modo se disolverán tus pecados. And you will be built up in justice, and you will be remembered in the day of tribulation. And your sins will dissolve like ice in warm weather.18¡Oh, cuan infame es el que a su padre desampara! ¡Y cómo es maldito de Dios aquel que exaspera a su madre! What an evil form has he who forsakes his father! And whoever exasperates his mother is accursed by God.19Hijo, haz tus cosas con mansedumbre, y sobre ser alabado, serás amado de los hombres. Son, perform your works in meekness, and you shall be loved beyond the glory of men.20Cuanto fueres más grande, tanto más debes humillarte en todas las cosas, y hallarás gracia ante Dios. However great you may be, humble yourself in all things, and you will find grace in the presence of God.21Porque Dios es el solo grande en poder, y Él es honrado de los humildes. For only the power of God is great, and he is honored by the humble.22No busques lo que es sobre tu capacidad, ni escudriñes aquellas cosas que exceden tus fuerzas; sino piensa siempre en lo que te tiene mandado Dios, y no seas curioso de sus muchas obras. You should not seek the things that are too high for you, and you should not examine the things that are beyond your ability. But as for the things that God has entrusted to you, consider these always. But you should not be curious in too many of his works.23Porque no te es necesario el ver por tus ojos los ocultos arcanos. For it is not necessary for you to see with your own eyes the things that are hidden.24No escudriñes con ansias las cosas superfluas, ni tampoco indagues las muchas obras de Dios. In unnecessary matters, do not choose to be an examiner of many different things, and you should not be curious about too many of his works.25Porque muchas cosas se te han enseñado que sobrepujan la humana inteligencia. For many things have been revealed to you, beyond the understanding of men.26A muchos sedujo la falsa opinión que formaron de ellas; en la vanidad detuvo ella sus sentidos. Yet uncertainty in these things has also undermined many persons and has detained their minds in vanity.27El corazón duro lo pasará mal al fin; y quien ama el peligro perecerá en él. A hardened heart will have evil in the very end, and he who loves peril will perish in it.28El corazón que sigue dos caminos, no tendrá buen suceso, y el hombre de corazón depravado hallará en ellos su ruina. A heart advancing in two directions will not have success, and the depraved heart will be scandalized in this way.29El corazón perverso se irá cargando de dolores; y el pecador añadirá pecados a pecados. A wicked heart will be burdened with sorrows, and a sinner will add further sins.30La reunión de los soberbios es incorregible; porque la planta del pecado se arraiga en ellos sin que lo adviertan. The synagogue of the arrogant will not be healed. For the stalk of sinfulness will take root in them, and it will not be understood.31El corazón del sabio se deja conocer en la sabiduría, y el oído bien dispuesto escuchará a esta con sumo anhelo. The heart of the wise is understood by wisdom, and a good ear will listen to wisdom with all its desire.32El corazón sabio y prudente se guardará de pecar; y en las obras de justicia prosperará. A wise and understanding heart will abstain from sins, and will have success in works of justice.33El agua apaga el fuego ardiente, y la limosna resiste a los pecados. Water extinguishes a burning fire, and almsgiving withstands sins.34Dios es el proveedor del que hace bien, se acuerda de él para lo venidero, y al tiempo de su caída hallará apoyo. And God is the watchman for him who repays a kindness. He remembers him afterwards, and in the time of his fall, he will find a firm support.
