1No divulgues la conversación que has oído, revelando el secreto, y no tendrás de qué avergonzarte, y hallarás gracia ante todos los hombres. No te avergüences de las cosas siguientes; ni por respeto a nadie cometas pecado. You should not repeat a claim heard from the revealing of a hidden word. And then, truly, you will be without shame, and you will find favor in the sight of all men. You should not accept the reputation of someone, so that you would sin, nor should you be confounded in any of the following things:2No te avergüences de la Ley del Altísimo, ni de su Testamento; ni de modo que justifiques en juicio al impío; in the law of the Most High and his covenant, or by giving a judgment to justify the impious;3ni del trato con compañeros y peregrinos, ni en la repartición de herencias entre amigos; in a word among companions and fellow travelers, or by distributing the inheritance of friends;4ni de tener balanzas y pesos fieles, ni hacer mucha o poca ganancia; in the fairness of scales and weights, or in acquiring much or little;5ni de impedir los fraudes de los negociantes en el vender; ni de contener a los hijos con severidad; ni de azotar al esclavo malvado hasta que salte la sangre. by the corruption of buying and negotiating, or in the ample discipline of children, or in causing the side of a wicked servant to bleed.6A la mujer mala es bueno tenerla encerrada. A seal is good over a wicked wife.7Donde hay muchas manos, echa la llave; y todo cuanto entregares cuéntalo, y pésalo; y apunta aquello que das y aquello que recibes. Where there are many hands, seal and deliver all things by number and weight; and truly, give and receive everything in writing.8No te avergüences de corregir a los insensatos, y a los necios; ni de los ancianos que son condenados por los mozos; y así te mostrarás sabio en todo, y serás bien visto delante de todos los vivientes. You should not have shame in correcting the senseless, the foolish, and those youths who would judge their elders. And so shall you be well-instructed in all things and well-approved in the sight of all the living.9La hija tiene desvelado a su padre; pues el cuidado de ella le quita el sueño, temiendo que pase de la mocedad a la edad adulta y sea odiosa cuando tome marido. The vigilance of a father for his daughter is hidden, and his concern for her takes away his sleep. For perhaps, in her adolescence, she might be brought into adulthood. Or when she lives with her husband, she might become hateful.10y por el temor de que sea manchada su virginidad, y se halle estar encinta en la casa paterna, o estando casada peque, o tal vez sea estéril. In her virginity, she might be defiled, and then she may be found to be pregnant in her father’s house. Or perhaps, when she lives with her husband, she might stray, or at least become barren.11A la hija libertina guárdala con estrecha custodia, no sea que algún día te haga escarnio de tus enemigos, fábula de la ciudad y befa de la plebe, y te cubra de ignominia delante de todo el pueblo. Keep a close watch over a self-indulgent daughter. Otherwise, at some time, she might bring you into disgrace before your enemies, and into disrepute in the city, and into reproach among the people, and so she may confound you before the multitude of the people.12No quieras fijar tus ojos en la hermosura de persona alguna, ni estar de asiento en medio de las mujeres. She should not choose to gaze upon the beauty of every man, and she should not choose to spend her time in the midst of married women.13Pues como de las ropas nace la polilla, así de la mujer la malicia del hombre. For a moth goes forth from garments, and iniquity over a man goes forth from a woman.14Porque menos te dañará la malignidad del hombre, que la mujer benéfica que es causa de tu confusión e ignominia. Yet iniquity over a man is better for her than if a married woman, seeking to benefit her, instead leads her into confusion and disgrace.15Ahora traeré a la memoria las obras del Señor, y publicaré aquello que he visto. Por la palabra del Señor existen sus obras. And now, I will remember the works of the Lord, and I will announce what I have seen. The words of the Lord are in his works.16Como el sol resplandeciente ilumina todas las cosas, así la obra del Señor está llena de su gloria. The sun illuminates and considers all things, and its work shows the fullness of the glory of the Lord.17¿No ordenó el Señor a los santos que pregonasen todas sus maravillas, que el Señor Todopoderoso ha perpetuado para monumento estable de su gloria? Has not the Lord caused the holy ones to describe all his miracles, which the all-powerful Lord has firmly established in his glory?18Él penetra el abismo, y los corazones de los hombres, y tiene caladas sus astucias. He has examined the abyss and the hearts of men. And he has considered their astuteness.19Porque el Señor sabe cuánto hay que saber, y distingue las señales de los tiempos. Declara las cosas pasadas y las futuras, y descubre los rastros de las que están escondidas. For the Lord comprehends all knowledge, and he has gazed upon the signs of the times: announcing the things of the past, as well as the things of the future, and revealing the traces of hidden things.20No se le escapa pensamiento alguno, ni se le oculta una sola palabra. No thought passes by him unnoticed, and no word can conceal itself from him.21Hermoseó las maravillas de su sabiduría. Él existe antes de los siglos, y hasta el siglo, y nada se le puede añadir, He has adorned the magnificent works of his wisdom. He is before eternity and even unto eternity. And nothing can be added,22ni disminuir, ni ha menester consejo de nadie. and nothing can be taken away. And he has no need of any counselor.23¡Cuán amables son todas sus obras! Y eso que de ellas podemos comprender, viene a ser como una centella. O how desirable are all his works! And all that we consider is but a spark.24Todas estas cosas subsisten, y duran para siempre; y todas en toda ocasión a Él obedecen. All these works exist, and they remain in the present age, and they all obey him in every purpose.25Pareadas son todas, y una opuesta a otra, y ninguna hizo imperfecta. All things are two-fold, one facing another, and he has not made anything to be lacking.26Aseguró el bien de cada una de ellas. La gloria de Él ¿quién se saciará de contemplarla? He has confirmed each thing as good. And who would tire of beholding his glory?
