There are those who rule with their authority, men of great virtue, who are gifted with prudence. There are those who announce among the prophets, with the dignity of prophets.4Gobernaron al pueblo de su tiempo con la virtud de la prudencia, dando muy santas instrucciones a sus súbditos. And there are those who rule over the present generation, by the virtue of prudence, with very holy words for the people.5Con su habilidad inventaron tonos musicales y compusieron los cánticos de las Escrituras. There are those who, by their skill, compose musical themes, so as to set the verses of Scripture to music.6Hombres ricos en virtudes, solícitos del decoro, pacíficos en sus casas. There are men rich in virtue, who make a study of beauty, who live in peacefulness in their houses.7Todos estos alcanzaron gloria, en los tiempos de su pueblo, y eran honrados en su siglo. All these obtained glory in their generations, and they had praise in their days.8Los que de ellos nacieron, dejaron un nombre que hace recordar sus alabanzas. They left behind a name for those who were born of them, so that their praises might be described.9Mas hay de quienes no queda memoria, que perecieron como si nunca hubieran existido. Nacieron como si no hubiesen nacido, así ellos como sus hijos. But for some of them, there is no memorial. They have passed away as if they had never existed; and they have become as if they had never been born, and their sons along with them.10Pero aquellos fueron varones misericordiosos, y su piedad no salió fallida. But these were men of mercy, whose pious deeds have not failed.11En su descendencia permanecen sus bienes. Good things continue with their offspring.12Sus nietos son una sucesión santa, y su posteridad se mantuvo constante en las alianzas. Their descendants are a holy inheritance, and their offspring stand firm in the covenants.13Por el mérito suyo durará para siempre su descendencia; nunca perecerá su gloria. And because of them, their sons remain even unto eternity. Their offspring and their glory will not be forsaken.14Sepultados en paz fueron sus cuerpos; y vive su nombre por todos los siglos. Their bodies were buried in peace, and their name lives on, from generation to generation.15Celebren los pueblos su sabiduría, y repítanse sus alabanzas en la Iglesia. Let the people declare their wisdom, and let the Church announce their praise.16Henoc agradó a Dios, y fue transportado al paraíso para predicar a las naciones la penitencia. Enoch pleased God, and he was transferred to Paradise, so that he might offer repentance to the nations.17Noé fue hallado perfectamente justo; y en el tiempo de la ira vino a ser instrumento de reconciliación. Noah was found to be perfect and just, and so, in the time of wrath, he was made a reconciliation.18Por eso fue dejado un resto en la tierra cuando vino el diluvio. As a result, there was a remnant left for the earth, when the great flood was made.19A Noé fue hecha aquella promesa sempiterna, según la cual no pueden ser destruidos por diluvio todos los mortales. The covenants of the world were placed with him, so that all flesh would not be wiped away by the great flood.20Abrahán, aquel gran padre de muchas gentes, que no tuvo semejante en la gloria, el cual guardó la Ley del Altísimo, y estrechó con Él alianza, Abraham was the great father of a multitude of nations, and no one was found to be like him in glory. He observed the law of the Most High, and he formed a covenant with him.21la que ratificó con la circuncisión en su carne, y en la tentación fue hallado fiel. In his flesh, he caused the covenant to stand, and when tested, he was found to be faithful.22Por eso juró el Señor darle gloria en su descendencia, y que se multiplicaría como el polvo de la tierra, Therefore, by an oath, he gave glory to him among his people, so as to increase him like the dust of the earth,23y que su posteridad sería ensalzada como las estrellas, y que ella sería heredera de mar a mar, y desde el río hasta los términos de la tierra. and to exalt his offspring like the stars, and to give an inheritance to them from sea to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.24Del mismo modo se portó con Isaac por amor de Abrahán su padre. And he acted in like manner toward Isaac, because of his father Abraham.25A él le dio el Señor la bendición de todas las naciones, y confirmó su pacto sobre la cabeza de Jacob. The Lord gave the blessing of all the nations to him, and he confirmed his covenant upon the head of Jacob.26Al cual distinguió con sus bendiciones, y le dio la herencia, repartiéndosela entre las doce tribus. He acknowledged him in his blessings, and he gave an inheritance to him, and he distributed to him the portion of the twelve tribes.27Y le concedió que en su linaje hubiese siempre varones de misericordia que fuesen amados de todas las gentes. And he preserved for him men of mercy, who were found to have grace before the eyes of all flesh.
