Eclesiástico 45
1Moisés fue el amado de Dios y de los hombres; su memoria se conserva en bendición. Moses was beloved by God and men. The remembrance of him is a blessing.2Él lo hizo semejante en la gloria a los santos, le engrandeció e le hizo terrible a los enemigos; y él con su palabra hizo cesar las horrendas plagas. He made him like the holy ones in glory, and he magnified him by the fear of his enemies, and he appeased great portents by his words.3Le glorificó en presencia de los reyes; le dio preceptos que promulgase a su pueblo, y le mostró su gloria. He glorified him in the sight of kings, and he gave commandments to him in the sight of his people, and he revealed his glory to him.4Le santificó por su fe y mansedumbre, y le escogió entre todos los hombres. He made him holy by his faith and meekness, and he chose him from among all flesh.5Por eso le hizo oír su voz y entrar en la nube; For he heard him and his voice, and he led him into a cloud.6donde cara a cara le dio los mandamientos, y la ley de vida y de ciencia, para que enseñase a Jacob su pacto y sus juicios a Israel. And he gave him precepts in his presence, with a law of life and discipline, so as to teach Jacob his covenant and Israel his judgments.7Ensalzó a Aarón, hermano de Moisés, y semejante a él, de la tribu de Leví. He exalted his brother Aaron and those who were similar to him from the tribe of Levi.8Asentó con él un pacto eterno, le dio el sacerdocio de la nación, y le llenó de felicidad y gloria. He established an eternal covenant with him, and he gave him the priesthood of the people, and he caused him to be blessed in glory.9Le ciñó con un cíngulo precioso, le vistió con vestiduras de gloria, y le honró con ornamentos de majestad. And he encircled him with a glorious belt, and he clothed him with a robe of glory, and he crowned him with virtuous attire.10Le puso la túnica talar, y la túnica interior; le dio el efod, y puso alrededor suyo muchísimas campanillas de oro, He placed upon him a garment to the feet, and pants, and an ephod, and he wrapped him all around with many little bells of gold,11para que sonasen cuando se moviese, y se oyese su sonido en el Templo; para acordar a los hijos de su pueblo. so that there would be a sound at his arrival, and so as to make a noise that would be heard in the temple, as a memorial for the sons of his people.12Le puso la vestidura santa, de oro, de jacinto y de púrpura, obra tejida, de varón sabio, dotado de verdadera prudencia; He provided him with a holy robe of gold and hyacinth and purple, a woven work for a wise man of judgment and truth,13labor artificiosa, hecha de hilo de púrpura torcido, con piedras preciosas, engastadas en oro, esculpidas por industrioso lapidario, según el número de las tribus de Israel, y para memoria de estas. a work of twisted scarlet, the work of an artist, with precious stones, cut and set in gold, and engraved by the work of a jeweler, as a memorial according to the number of the tribes of Israel.14Sobre su mitra una diadema de oro, donde estaba esculpido el sello de santidad, ornamento de gloria, obra primorosa, que con su belleza se llevaba tras sí los ojos. He provided him with a crown of gold upon his headdress, on which was written a symbol of holiness, a mark of honor. This was a work of virtue and a delight to the eyes in its beauty.15No hubo antes de él y desde el principio cosas tan preciosas. Prior to him, there was no one of such beauty, even from the beginning.16Jamás las vistió hombre alguno de otra gente; sino solamente los hijos de este y sus nietos perpetuamente. No foreigner was ever clothed with these things, but only his sons and his descendants alone, for all time.17Sus sacrificios eran diariamente consumidos por el fuego. His sacrifices were consumed by fire daily.18Moisés le llenó las manos, y le ungió con el óleo sagrado. Moses filled his hands and anointed him with holy oil.19Fue concedido a él y a su descendencia, por un pacto eterno, y duradero como los cielos, el ejercer las funciones del sacerdocio, cantar las alabanzas, y en Su nombre bendecir a su pueblo. An eternal covenant was made, with him and with his offspring, like the days of heaven, to execute the office of the priesthood, and to give praise and to glorify his people, in his name.20El Señor le escogió entre todos los vivientes para que le ofreciese los sacrificios, el incienso y olor suave; a fin de que haciendo memoria de su pueblo, se le mostrase propicio. He chose him from among all living men to offer to God sacrifice, incense, and a pleasing fragrance, as a memorial of appeasement on behalf of his people.21Le dio también autoridad acerca de sus preceptos y de sus alianzas y juicios, para enseñar a Jacob los testimonios, y dar a Israel la inteligencia de su Ley. And he gave him authority by his precepts, in the covenants of his judgments, to teach Jacob his testimonies, and to give light by his law to Israel.22Mas se sublevaron contra él en el desierto unos hombres extraños; y por envidia le embistieron los que estaban con Datan y Abirón y los de la facción de Coré. Then strangers stood up against him, and, because of envy, the men who were with Dathan and Abiram surrounded him in the desert, along with the congregation of Korah, in their anger.23El Señor Dios lo vio y se irritó, y con el ímpetu de su enojo los consumió. The Lord God saw this, and it did not please him, and so they were consumed by the force of his anger.24Obró horrendos prodigios contra ellos, y con ardientes llamas los aniquiló. He wrought great portents among them, and he consumed them with a flame of fire.25Y añadió gloria a Aarón y le señaló herencia; y le dio las primicias de los frutos de la tierra. And he added glory to Aaron, and he gave him an inheritance, and he allotted to him the first-fruits of the earth.26Con ellas le proveyó, a él y a sus hijos, de abundante sustento, y además comerán de los sacrificios del Señor, que les concedió a él y a su linaje. He prepared for them the finest bread unto fullness. And they shall also eat from the sacrifices of the Lord, which he gave to him and to his offspring.27Pero no tendrá herencia en la tierra de las naciones, ni se le dio porción entre su pueblo; pues el mismo Dios es la porción y herencia suya. And yet he will not have an inheritance among the people of the land, and he has no portion among the people. For the Lord himself is his portion and his inheritance.28Fineés, hijo de Eleazar, es el tercero en gloria, imitador de Aarón en el temor del Señor. Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, is third in glory, by imitating him in the fear of the Lord.29Por estar firme en la afrenta del pueblo, él con su bondad y ánimo resuelto aplacó al Señor a favor de Israel. And he stood up against the shamefulness of the people. By the goodness and responsiveness of his soul, he appeased God on behalf of Israel.30Por cuyo motivo le firmó un pacto de paz; le constituyó príncipe del Santuario, y de su pueblo, adjudicándole para siempre, a él y a su estirpe, la dignidad sacerdotal. For this reason, he made him a covenant of peace, a leader of the sanctuary and of his people, so that the dignity of the priesthood would remain with him and with his offspring unto eternity.31Semejante fue el pacto celebrado con el rey David, hijo de Jesé, de la tribu de Judá, cuando le hizo heredero del reino, a él y a su linaje, a fin de llenar de sabiduría nuestros corazones, y de que su pueblo fuese gobernado con justicia, para que no perdiese su felicidad. Así hizo eterna la gloria de estos entre sus gentes. And he made a covenant with king David, the son of Jesse from the tribe of Judah, an inheritance for him and for his offspring, so that he might provide wisdom for our hearts, so as to judge his people in justice, lest their good things be abolished. And he caused their glory within their nation to be everlasting.
