1Después de esto floreció Natán, profeta, en tiempo de David. After these things, Nathan the prophet arose, in the days of David.2Como la grosura de la víctima se separa de la carne; así fue David separado de entre los hijos de Israel. And just as fat is separated from meat, so was David separated from the sons of Israel.3En su juventud se burló de los leones, como si fuesen unos corderos; y otro tanto hizo con los osos, como si fuesen corderitos. He played with lions, as if with lambs, and he acted similarly with bears, as if they were lambs of the flock, in his youth.4¿No fue él quien mató al gigante quitando el oprobio de su nación? Did he not kill the giant, and take away the reproach from his people?5AIzando la mano, derribó con la piedra de su honda al orgulloso Goliat. By lifting up his hand, with a stone in a sling, he threw down the boasting of Goliath.6Por invocar al Señor todopoderoso, el cual dio fuerza a su brazo para degollar a un tan valiente campeón, y realzar los bríos de su nación. For he called upon the Almighty Lord, and he swore with his right hand to take away the mighty man of war, and to exalt the horn of his people.7Así el Señor le glorificó con diez mil, le hizo ilustre con sus bendiciones y le dio una corona gloriosa. So he glorified him amid ten thousand, and he praised him with the blessings of the Lord, by offering him a crown of glory.8Pues derrotó por todas partes a los enemigos, y exterminó hasta hoy día a los filisteos, sus contrarios; quebrantando sus fuerzas para siempre. For he crushed the enemies on every side, and he eradicated his adversaries, the Philistines, even to this day. He broke their horn, even for all time.9En todas sus obras dio la gloria al Santo y Excelso con palabras de suma alabanza. In all his works, he gave thanks to the Holy One, to the Most High, with words of glory.10Alabó al Señor con todo su corazón, y amó a Dios, su Creador; el cual le había armado de fortaleza contra los enemigos. With all his heart, he praised the Lord and he loved God, who made him and who gave him power against his enemies.11Estableció cantores enfrente del altar, y para sus cánticos les dio armoniosos tonos. And he appointed singers to stand opposite the altar, and by their voices he provided sweet music.12Puso decoro en la celebración de las fiestas, y hasta el fin de su vida dio magnificencia a cada tiempo, haciendo que se alabase el nombre santo del Señor, y se celebrase desde la madrugada la santidad de Dios. And he provided beauty for the celebrations, and he gave order to the times, even until the end of his life, so that they would praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the sanctity of God, from early morning.13El Señor le purificó de sus pecados, y ensalzó para siempre su poder, asegurándole con juramento la promesa del reino y el trono glorioso de Israel. The Lord purged his sins, and he exalted his horn forever. And he gave him the covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.14Le sucedió después el hijo sabio; y el Señor por amor de aquel tuvo abatido el poder de sus enemigos. After him, an understanding son rose up. And by means of him, he cast down all the power of the enemies.15El reinado de Salomón fue una época de paz; Dios le sometió todos los enemigos, a fin de que fabricase un templo a su nombre, y le preparase un eterno santuario. ¡Cuán bien instruido fuiste en tu juventud, Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God subjected all his enemies to him, so that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for all time. O how well-taught you were in your youth!16y cómo estuviste lleno de sabiduría cual río! Descubrió tu alma los secretos de la tierra. And you were filled with wisdom like a river, and your mind exposed the world.17En tus parábolas reuniste enigmas; llegó la fama de tu nombre, hasta las islas remotas, y fuiste amado en tu paz. And you explained mysteries by means of parables. Your name became known to far off islands, and you were beloved for your peace.18Todas las gentes admiraron tus cánticos y proverbios, las parábolas y las soluciones de los enigmas, The earth was in wonder over your canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,19y la protección del Señor Dios, que se apellida el Dios de Israel. and over the name of the Lord God, who is known as the God of Israel.20Tú reuniste oro, como si fuera cobre, y amontonaste la plata, como si fuese plomo. You gathered gold like copper, and you multiplied silver like lead.21Pero después te prostituiste a las mujeres, y tuviste quien ejerciese dominio sobre tu cuerpo; But you bent your thigh to women, and you were held by the power of your body.22echaste un borrón a tu gloria, y profanaste tu linaje, provocando la ira sobre tus hijos, y llevando a tal extremo tu necedad, You brought a stain upon your glory, and you profaned your seed, so as to bring wrath upon your children, and to incite your foolishness,23que causaste la división del reino en dos partes, y que de Efraím saliese un reino de rebeldes. so that you would cause the kingdom to be divided, and an obstinate kingdom to rule from Ephraim.24Pero no se desprenderá Dios de su misericordia, y no trastornará ni destruirá sus obras, ni arrancará de raíz los nietos de su escogido, ni extinguirá la descendencia de aquel varón amante del Señor. But God will not abandon his mercy, nor will he corrupt or abolish his own works. And he will not perish the stock of the descendants of his elect. And he will not destroy the offspring of him who loves the Lord.25Por eso dejó un residuo a Jacob y a David de su mismo linaje. Therefore, he left behind a remnant for Jacob and for David, from the same stock.26Pasó Salomón a descansar con sus padres, And Solomon had his end with his fathers.27y dejó después de sí a Roboam, su hijo, ejemplo de necedad para su nación, And he left behind himself some of his offspring, as the folly of the nation:28quien falto de prudencia, con su consejo enajenó de sí el corazón del pueblo; both Rehoboam, who had little prudence, and who turned away the people by his counsel,29y a Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que indujo a pecar a Israel, y enseñó el camino del pecado a Efraím, causando la grandísima inundación de sus vicios, and Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, and who provided a way of sin to Ephraim. And their sins were multiplied exceedingly.30por los cuales fueron muchas veces arrojados de su país. They thoroughly turned them away from their own land.31Porque buscaron toda suerte de maldades, hasta que descargó sobre ellos la venganza, que puso fin a todos sus pecados. And they sought every kind of wickedness, even until punishment overwhelmed them, and freed them from every kind of sin.
