1Simón, hijo de Onías, Sumo Sacerdote, durante su vida levantó de nuevo la Casa y en sus tiempos fortificó el Templo. Simon, the high priest, son of Onias: in his life, he propped up the house, and in his days, he strengthened the temple.2Por él fue también fundada la altura del Templo, el edificio doble y los altos muros del Templo. Even the height of the temple was established by him: the double building and the high walls of the temple.3En sus días se renovaron los manantiales de las aguas en los pozos, los cuales se llenaron sobremanera como un mar. In his days, waters flowed out from the wells, and these were full beyond measure, like the sea.4Este cuidó de su pueblo, y le libró de la perdición. He cared for his nation, and he freed it from perdition.5Consiguió engrandecer la ciudad, se granjeó gloria en medio de su nación; y ensanchó la entrada del Templo y del atrio. He prevailed, so as to enlarge the city. And he obtained glory by his behavior among the people. And he enlarged the entrance of the house and of the atrium.6Como el lucero de la mañana entre tinieblas, y como la luna en tiempo de su plenitud, He shined in his days like the morning star through the midst of a cloud, and like the full moon.7como el sol refulgente, así brillaba él en el Templo de Dios. And he shined forth in the temple of God in this manner: like the sun when it shines brightly,8Como el arco iris, que resplandece en las transparentes nubes, y como la flor de la rosa en tiempo de primavera, como las azucenas junto a la corriente de las aguas, y como el árbol del incienso que despide fragancia en tiempo del estío; and like a rainbow shining amid clouds of glory, and like flowering roses in the days of spring, and like lilies along the water’s edge, and like sweet smelling frankincense in the days of summer,9como luciente llama, y como incienso encendido en el fuego; like a fire shining brightly, and like frankincense burning within a fire,10como un vaso de oro macizo, guarnecido de toda suerte de piedras preciosas; like a vessel of solid gold, adorned with every precious stone,11como el olivo que retoña, y como el ciprés que descuella por su altura; (tal parecía Simón) cuando se ponía el manto glorioso y se revestía de todos los ornamentos de su dignidad. like an olive tree producing buds, and like a cypress tree lifting itself on high, when he received the robe of glory and was vested with the consummation of virtue.12Cuando subía al altar santo, hacía honor a las vestiduras sagradas. Then, when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, he himself stood next to the altar. And around him was the crown of his brethren, like a cedar planted on a mountain of Lebanon.14Como renuevos de palmera así estaban alrededor suyo todos los hijos de Aarón en su magnificencia. And they stood around him like palm branches, and all were sons of Aaron in their glory.15Los cuales tenían en sus manos la oblación que había de ofrecerse al Señor en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel; y él, consumando el sacrificio, para hacer más solemne la ofrenda al rey Altísimo, Then the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, in the sight of the entire synagogue of Israel. And completing his service at the altar, so as to magnify the offering to the Most High King,16extendía las manos para hacer la libación, y derramaba la sangre de la uva, he extended his hand to make a libation, and he offered from the blood of the grape.17esparciéndola al pie del altar en olor suavísimo al altísimo príncipe. At the base of the altar, he poured out a divine fragrance to the Most High Prince.18Entonces los hijos de Aarón alzaban sus voces, tocaban las trompetas hechas a martillo, y hacían sentir un gran concierto ante Dios para recuerdo. And the singers of Psalms raised their voices, and a full sweet sound increased in the great house.21Y presentaba el pueblo sus preces al Señor altísimo, hasta que quedaba terminado el culto de Dios, y se acababan las sagradas funciones. And the people petitioned the Most High Lord in prayer, even until the honor of the Lord was completed, and they finished offering their gifts.22Entonces bajaba el Sumo Sacerdote, y extendía sus manos hacia toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, para dar gloria a Dios con sus labios, y celebrar su santo nombre. Then, descending, he extended his hands over the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, to give glory to God from his lips, and to glory in his name.23Y segunda vez repetía su oración, deseoso de hacer conocer el poder de Dios. And he repeated his prayer, wanting to reveal the virtue of God.24Y ahora, vosotros, rogad al Dios de todo lo creado, que ha hecho cosas grandes en toda la tierra, que ha conservado nuestra vida desde el seno de nuestra madre; y que nos ha tratado siempre según su misericordia; And now, pray to the God of all, who has accomplished great things over all the earth, who has increased our days from our mother’s womb, and who has acted toward us in accord with his mercy.25para que nos dé el contentamiento del corazón, y que reine la paz en Israel en nuestros días y para siempre; May he give us joyfulness in heart, and may there be peace in our days, in Israel for unending days,26con lo cual crea Israel que la misericordia de Dios está con nosotros para librarnos en sus días. so that Israel may trust the mercy of God to be with us, in order to free us in his days.27A dos naciones tiene aversión mi alma; y la tercera que aborrezco no es nación: Two nations my soul hates, and a third, which I hate, is not a nation:28a los que habitan en la montaña de Seír, a los filisteos, y al pueblo insensato que mora en Siquem. those who sit upon mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people who live at Shechem.29Documentos de sabiduría y de disciplina dejó escritos en este libro Jesús, hijo de Sirac, de Jerusalén; el cual restauró la sabiduría derramándola de su corazón. Este tal será siempre sabio. Blessed is he who lives by these good things. Whoever places these things in his heart will be ever wise.31Porque obrando así, será bueno para todo; pues la luz de Dios guiará sus pasos. For if he does these things, he will prevail in all things. For the light of God is upon his footsteps.
