1Amonéstales para que se sometan a los gobiernos y a las autoridades, que las obedezcan y estén listos para toda obra buena; Admonish them to be subordinate to the rulers and authorities, to obey their dictates, to be prepared for every good work,2que no digan mal de nadie, que no sean pendencieros sino apacibles, mostrando toda mansedumbre para con todos los hombres. to speak evil of no one, not to be litigious, but to be reserved, displaying all meekness toward all men.3Pues también nosotros éramos en un tiempo necios, desobedientes, descarriados, esclavos de toda suerte de concupiscencias y placeres, viviendo en malicia y envidia, aborrecibles y aborreciéndonos unos a otros. For, in times past, we ourselves were also unwise, unbelieving, erring, servants of various desires and pleasures, acting with malice and envy, being hateful and hating one another.4Mas cuando se manifestó la bondad de Dios nuestro Salvador y su amor a los hombres, But then the kindness and humanity of God our Savior appeared.5Él nos salvó, no a causa de obras de justicia que hubiésemos hecho nosotros, sino según su misericordia, por medio del lavacro de la regeneración, y la renovación del Espíritu Santo, And he saved us, not by works of justice that we had done, but, in accord with his mercy, by the washing of regeneration and by the renovation of the Holy Spirit,6que Él derramó sobre nosotros abundantemente por Jesucristo nuestro Salvador; whom he has poured out upon us in abundance, through Jesus Christ our Savior,7para que, justificados por su gracia, fuésemos constituidos, conforme a la esperanza, herederos de la vida eterna. so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.8Palabra fiel es esta, y quiero que en cuanto a estas cosas te pongas firme, a fin de que los que han creído a Dios cuiden de ser los primeros. Esto es bueno y provechoso para los hombres. This is a faithful saying. And I want you to confirm these things, so that those who believe in God may take care to excel in good works. These things are good and useful to men.9Evita cuestiones necias, y genealogías, y contiendas, y disputas sobre la Ley, porque son inútiles y vanas. But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, as well as arguments against the law. For these are useless and empty.10Al hombre sectario, después de una y otra amonestación, rehúyelo, Avoid a man who is a heretic, after the first and second correction,11sabiendo que el tal se ha pervertido y peca, condenándose por su propia sentencia. knowing that one who is like this has been subverted, and that he offends; for he has been condemned by his own judgment.12Cuando envíe a ti a Artemas o a Tíquico, date prisa en venir a Nicópolis porque he pensado pasar allí el invierno. When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, hurry to return to me at Nicopolis. For I have decided to winter there.13Despacha con toda solicitud a Zenas, el perito en la Ley, y a Apolos, de modo que nada les falte. Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollo ahead with care, and let nothing be lacking to them.14Y aprendan también los nuestros a ser los primeros en buenas obras, atendiendo los casos de necesidad, para no ser estériles. But let our men also learn to excel in good works pertaining to the necessities of life, so that they may not be unfruitful.15Te saludan todos los que están conmigo. Saluda a los que nos aman en la fe. La gracia sea con todos vosotros. All those who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. May the grace of God be with you all. Amen.
