Sabiduría 3

¹Mas las almas de los justos están en la mano de Dios; y no llegará a ellas el tormento de la muerte. But the souls of the just are in the hand of God and no torment of death will touch them.²A los ojos de los insensatos pareció que morían; y su tránsito se miró como una desgracia, In the eyes of the foolish, they seemed to die, and their departure was considered an affliction,³y como un aniquilamiento su partida de entre nosotros, mas ellos reposan en paz. and their going away from us, a banishment. Yet they are in peace.⁴Y si delante de los hombres han padecido tormentos, su esperanza está llena de la inmortalidad. And though, in the sight of men, they suffered torments, their hope is full of immortality.⁵Su tribulación ha sido ligera, y su galardón será grande, porque Dios hizo prueba de ellos, y los halló dignos de sí. Troubled in few things, in many things they will be well compensated, because God has tested them and found them worthy of himself.⁶Los probó como el oro en el crisol, y los aceptó como víctima de holocausto, y a su tiempo se les dará la recompensa. Like gold in the furnace, he has proved them, and as a holocaust victim, he has received them, and in the time of their visitation⁷Brillarán los justos, y discurrirán como centellas por un cañaveral. they will shine, and they will dash about like sparks among stubble.⁸Juzgarán a las naciones y dominarán a los pueblos. El Señor reinará sobre ellos eternamente. They will judge the nations and they will rule over the people, and their Lord will reign forever.⁹Los que confían en Él, entenderán la verdad; y los fieles a su amor descansarán en Él, pues que la gracia y la paz es para sus escogidos. Those who trust in him, will understand the truth, and those who are faithful in love will rest in him, because grace and peace is for his elect.¹⁰Mas los impíos serán castigados a medida de sus pensamientos: ellos que no hicieron caso de la justicia, y apostataron del Señor. But the impious will be chastised according to their thoughts, for they have neglected the just and have retreated from the Lord.¹¹Porque desdichado es quien desecha la sabiduría y la instrucción, y vana es su esperanza; sin fruto sus trabajos, e inútiles sus obras. For whoever abandons wisdom and instruction is unhappy, and their hope is empty, and their labors without fruit, and their works useless.¹²Las mujeres de los tales son unas locas, y perversísimos sus hijos. Their wives are foolish and their sons are wicked; the things that serve them are accursed.¹³Maldita la raza de ellos. Porque dichosa será la estéril; la sin mancilla, la que conservó inmaculado su lecho, ella recibirá la recompensa en la visitación de las almas santas. Therefore, fertile is the barren and undefiled, who has not known transgressions in bed; she will bear fruit by caring for holy souls.¹⁴Asimismo el eunuco, cuyas manos no han obrado la iniquidad, ni ha pensado cosas criminales contrarias a Dios; pues se le dará un don precioso por su fidelidad, y un destino muy distinguido en el templo de Dios. And fertile is the celibate, who has not wrought iniquity with his hands, nor thought wickedness against God; for to him will be given a special gift of faith and a very welcome place in the temple of the Lord.¹⁵Porque glorioso es el fruto de las buenas obras; y nunca se seca la raíz de la sabiduría. For the fruit of good labors is glorious and the root of wisdom shall never perish.¹⁶Mas los hijos de los adúlteros jamás alcanzarán madurez, y extirpada será la raza del tálamo impuro. But the sons of adulterers will not reach completion, and the offspring of a sinful bed will be banished.¹⁷Y dado que tuvieren larga vida, para nada se contará con ellos, y su última vejez será sin honra. And if they live long, they will be counted as nothing, and their last years of old-age will be without honor.¹⁸Si murieron pronto, no tendrán esperanza, ni quien los consuele en el día de la cuenta. And if they die quickly, they will have no hope, nor words of comfort on the day of reckoning.¹⁹Porque la raza de los malvados tiene un fin nefasto. For the iniquities of the people have a dreadful result.
