1 Pedro 2

1Deponed, pues, toda malicia y todo engaño, las hipocresías, las envidias y toda suerte de detracciones, Therefore, set aside all malice and all deceitfulness, as well as falseness and envy and every detraction.2y, como niños recién nacidos, sed ávidos de la leche espiritual no adulterada, para crecer por ella en la salvación, Like newborn infants, desire the milk of reasonableness without guile, so that by this you may increase unto salvation,3si es que habéis experimentado que el Señor es bueno. if it is true that you have tasted that the Lord is sweet.4Arrimándoos a Él, como a piedra viva, reprobada ciertamente por los hombres, mas para Dios escogida y preciosa, And approaching him as if he were a living stone, rejected by men, certainly, but elect and honored by God,5también vosotros, cual piedras vivas, edificaos (sobre Él) como casa espiritual para un sacerdocio santo, a fin de ofrecer sacrificios espirituales, agradables a Dios por Jesucristo. be also yourselves like living stones, built upon him, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, so as to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.6Por lo cual se halla esto en la Escritura: “He aquí que pongo en Sión una piedra angular escogida y preciosa; y el que en ella cree nunca será confundido”. Because of this, Scripture asserts: “Behold, I am setting in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious. And whoever will have believed in him will not be confounded.”7Preciosa para vosotros los que creéis; mas para los que no creen, “la piedra que rechazaron los constructores esa misma ha venido a ser cabeza de ángulo” Therefore, to you who believe, he is honor. But to those who do not believe, the stone which the builders have rejected, the same has been made into the head of the corner,8y “roca de tropiezo y piedra de escándalo”; para aquellos que tropiezan por no creer a la Palabra, a lo cual en realidad están destinados. and a stone of offense, and a rock of scandal, to those who are offended by the Word; neither do they believe, though they also have been built upon him.9Pero vosotros sois un “linaje escogido, un sacerdocio real, una nación santa, un pueblo conquistado, para que anunciéis las grandezas de Aquel que de las tinieblas os ha llamado a su admirable luz”; But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, so that you may announce the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.10a los en un tiempo (llamados ) “no pueblo”, ahora (se les llama) pueblo de Dios; a los (llamados) “no más misericordia”, ahora “objeto de la misericordia”. Though in past times you were not a people, yet now you are the people of God. Though you had not obtained mercy, yet now you have obtained mercy.11Amados míos, os ruego que os abstengáis, cual forasteros y peregrinos, de las concupiscencias carnales que hacen guerra contra el alma. Most beloved, I beg you, as new arrivals and sojourners, to abstain from carnal desires, which battle against the soul.12Tened en medio de los gentiles una conducta irreprochable, a fin de que, mientras os calumnian como malhechores, al ver (ahora) vuestras buenas obras, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visita. Keep your behavior among the Gentiles to what is good, so that, when they slander you as if you were evildoers, they may, by the good works that are seen in you, glorify God on the day of visitation.13A causa del Señor sed sumisos a toda humana institución, sea al rey como soberano, Therefore, be subject to every human creature because of God, whether it is to the king as preeminent,14o a los gobernadores, como enviados suyos para castigar a los malhechores y honrar a los que obran bien. or to leaders as having been sent from him for vindication over evildoers, it is truly for the praise of what is good.15Pues la voluntad de Dios es que obrando bien hagáis enmudecer a los hombres insensatos que os desconocen, For such is the will of God, that by doing good you may bring about the silence of imprudent and ignorant men,16(comportándoos) cual libres, no ciertamente como quien toma la libertad por velo de la malicia, sino como siervos de Dios. in an open manner, and not as if cloaking malice with liberty, but like servants of God.17Respetad a todos, amad a los hermanos, temed a Dios, honrad al rey. Honor everyone. Love brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.18Siervos, sed sumisos a vuestros amos con todo temor, no solamente a los buenos e indulgentes, sino también a los difíciles. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and meek, but also to the unruly.19Porque en esto está la gracia: en que uno, sufriendo injustamente, soporte penas por consideración a Dios. For this is grace: when, because of God, a man willingly endures sorrows, suffering injustice.20Pues ¿qué gloria es, si por vuestros pecados sois abofeteados y lo soportáis? Pero si padecéis por obrar bien y lo sufrís, esto es gracia delante de Dios. For what glory is there, if you sin and then suffer a beating? But if you do well and suffer patiently, this is grace with God.21Para esto fuisteis llamados. Porque también Cristo padeció por vosotros dejándoos ejemplo para que sigáis sus pasos. For you have been called to this because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in his footsteps.22“Él, que no hizo pecado, y en cuya boca no se halló engaño”; He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.23cuando lo ultrajaban no respondía con injurias y cuando padecía no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba al justo Juez. And when evil was spoken against him, he did not speak evil. When he suffered, he did not threaten. Then he handed himself over to him who judged him unjustly.24Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, a fin de que nosotros, muertos a los pecados, vivamos para la justicia. “Por sus llagas fuisteis sanados” He himself bore our sins in his body upon the tree, so that we, having died to sin, would live for justice. By his wounds, you have been healed.25; porque erais como ovejas descarriadas; mas ahora os habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas. For you were like wandering sheep. But now you have been turned back toward the Pastor and the Bishop of your souls.
