1Todos los que están bajo el yugo de la servidumbre tengan a sus amos por dignos de todo honor, para que el nombre de Dios y la doctrina no sean blasfemados. Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.2Y los que tienen amos creyentes, no por ser hermanos les tributen menos respeto, antes sírvanles mejor, por lo mismo que son fieles y amados los que reciben su servicio. Esto enseña y a esto exhorta. But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things.3Si uno enseña otra cosa y no se allega a las palabras saludables de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y a la doctrina que es según la piedad, If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety,4este es un hombre hinchado que no sabe nada, antes bien tiene un enfermizo afecto por cuestiones y disputas de palabras, de donde nacen envidias, contiendas, maledicencias, sospechas malignas, then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions:5altercaciones de hombres corrompidos en su mente y privados de la verdad, que piensan que la piedad es una granjería. the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety.6En verdad, grande granjería es la piedad con el contento (de lo que se tiene). But piety with sufficiency is great gain.7Porque nada trajimos al mundo, ni tampoco podemos llevarnos cosa alguna de él. For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away.8Teniendo pues qué comer y con qué cubrirnos, estemos contentos con esto. But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these.9Porque los que quieren ser ricos caen en la tentación y en el lazo (del diablo) y en muchas codicias necias y perniciosas, que precipitan a los hombres en ruina y perdición. For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.10Pues raíz de todos los males es el amor al dinero; por desearlo, algunos se desviaron de la fe y se torturaron ellos mismos con muchos dolores. For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.11Mas tú, oh hombre de Dios, huye de estas cosas, y anda tras la justicia, la piedad, la fe, la caridad, la paciencia, la mansedumbre. But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.12Lucha la buena lucha de la fe; echa mano de la vida eterna, para la cual fuiste llamado, y de la cual hiciste aquella bella confesión delante de muchos testigos. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses.13Te ruego, en presencia de Dios que da vida a todas las cosas, y de Cristo Jesús —el cual hizo bajo Poncio Pilato la bella confesión— I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,14que guardes tu mandato sin mancha y sin reproche hasta la aparición de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.15que a su tiempo hará ostensible el bendito y único Dominador, Rey de los reyes y Señor de los señores; For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,16el único que posee inmortalidad y habita en una luz inaccesible que ningún hombre ha visto ni puede ver. A Él sea honor y poder eterno. Amén. who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.17A los que son ricos en este siglo exhórtalos a que no sean altivos, ni pongan su esperanza en lo inseguro de las riquezas, sino en Dios, el cual nos da abundantemente de todo para disfrutarlo; Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy,18que hagan el bien; que sean ricos en buenos obras, dadivosos, generosos, and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share,19atesorándose un buen fondo para lo porvenir, a fin de alcanzar la vida verdadera. to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life.20Oh, Timoteo, cuida el depósito, evitando las palabrerías profanas y las objeciones de la seudociencia. O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge.21Por profesarla algunos se han extraviado de la fe. La gracia sea con vosotros. Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen.
