1Tú, pues, hijo mío, vigorízate en la gracia que se halla en Cristo Jesús. And as for you, my son, be strengthened by the grace which is in Christ Jesus,2Y lo que me oíste en presencia de muchos testigos, eso mismo trasmítelo a hombres fieles, los cuales serán aptos para enseñarlo a otros. and by the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses. These things encourage faithful men, who shall then be suitable to teach others also.3Sufre conmigo los trabajos como buen soldado de Cristo Jesús. Labor like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.4Ninguno que milita como soldado se deja enredar en los negocios de la vida; así podrá complacer al que le alistó. No man, acting as a soldier for God, entangles himself in worldly matters, so that he may be pleasing to him for whom he has proven himself.5Asimismo, el que combate como atleta, no es coronado si no combate en regla. Then, too, whoever strives in a competition is not crowned, unless he has competed lawfully.6El labrador que se fatiga debe ser el primero en participar de los frutos. The farmer who labors ought to be the first to share in the produce.7Entiende lo que digo, ya que el Señor te dará inteligencia en todo. Understand what I am saying. For the Lord will give you understanding in all things.8Acuérdate de Jesucristo, de la estirpe de David, resucitado de entre los muertos, según mi Evangelio. Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the offspring of David, has risen again from the dead, according to my Gospel.9En Él sufro hasta cadenas como malhechor; mas la Palabra de Dios no está en cadenas. I labor in this Gospel, even while chained like an evildoer. But the Word of God is not bound.10Por eso todo lo soporto a causa de los escogidos, para que ellos también alcancen la salvación en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna. I endure all things for this reason: for the sake of the elect, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.11Fiel es esta palabra: “Si hemos muerto con Él, también con Él viviremos; It is a faithful saying: that if we have died with him, we will also live with him.12si sufrimos, con Él también reinaremos; si le negamos, Él nos negará también; If we suffer, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.13si somos infieles, Él permanece fiel, pues no puede negarse a sí mismo”. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful: he is not able to deny himself.14Recuérdales, dando testimonio delante del Señor, que no hagan disputas de palabras; de nada sirven sino para perdición de los oyentes. Insist on these things, testifying before the Lord. Do not be contentious about words, for this is useful for nothing but the subversion of listeners.15Empéñate en presentarte ante Dios como hombre probado, como obrero que no se avergüenza y que con rectitud dispensa la palabra de la verdad. Be solicitous in the task of presenting yourself before God as a proven and unashamed worker who has handled the Word of Truth correctly.16Evita las vanas palabrerías profanas; solo servirán para mayor impiedad, But avoid profane or empty talk. For these things advance one greatly in impiety.17y su palabra cundirá cual gangrena. De los tales son Himeneo y Fileto, And their word spreads like a cancer: among these are Hymenaeus and Philetus,18que aberrando de la verdad dicen que la resurrección ya ha sucedido y subvierten así la fe de algunos. who have fallen away from the truth by saying that the resurrection is already complete. And so they have subverted the faith of certain persons.19Pero el fundamento de Dios se mantiene sólido y tiene este sello: “Conoce el Señor a los que son suyos” y “Apártese de la iniquidad todo aquel que pronuncia el nombre del Señor”. But the firm foundation of God remains standing, having this seal: the Lord knows those who are his own, and all who know the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.20Es que en una casa grande no hay solamente vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro; y algunos son para uso honroso, otros para uso vil. But, in a large house, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also those of wood and of clay; and certainly some are held in honor, but others in dishonor.21Si pues uno se purificare de estas cosas será un vaso para uso honroso, santificado, útil al dueño y preparado para toda obra buena. If anyone, then, will have cleansed himself from these things, he shall be a vessel held in honor, sanctified and useful to the Lord, prepared for every good work.22Huye de las inclinaciones juveniles; sigue la justicia, la fe, la caridad, la paz con aquellos que de corazón puro invocan al Señor. So then, flee from the desires of your youth, yet truly, pursue justice, faith, hope, charity, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.23Rechaza las discusiones necias e indisciplinadas, sabiendo que engendran altercados. But avoid foolish and undisciplined questions, for you know that these produce strife.24El siervo del Señor no debe ser litigioso sino manso para con todos, pronto para enseñar, sufrido, For the servant of the Lord must not be contentious, but instead he must be meek toward everyone, teachable, patient,25que instruya con mansedumbre a los que se oponen, por si acaso Dios les concede arrepentimiento para que conozcan la verdad, correcting with self-restraint those who resist the truth. For at any time God may give them repentance, so as to recognize the truth,26y sepan escapar del lazo del diablo, quien los tenía cautivos para someterlos a su voluntad. and then they may recover from the snares of the devil, by whom they are held captive at his will.
