Gálatas 4

¹Digo, pues, ahora: Mientras el heredero es niño, en nada difiere del esclavo, aunque es señor de todo, But I say that, during the time an heir is a child, he is no different from a servant, even though he is the owner of everything.²sino que está bajo tutores y administradores, hasta el tiempo señalado anticipadamente por su padre. For he is under tutors and caretakers, until the time which was predetermined by the father.³Así también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, estábamos bajo los elementos del mundo, sujetos a servidumbre. So also we, when we were children, were subservient to the influences of the world.⁴Mas cuando vino la plenitud del tiempo, envió Dios a su Hijo, formado de, mujer, puesto bajo la Ley, But when the fullness of time arrived, God sent his Son, formed from a woman, formed under the law,⁵para que redimiese a los que estaban bajo la Ley, a fin de que recibiésemos la adopción de hijos. so that he might redeem those who were under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption of sons.⁶Y porque sois hijos, envió Dios a vuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama: “¡Abba, Padre!” Therefore, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying out: “Abba, Father.”⁷De modo que ya no eres esclavo, sino hijo; y si hijo, también heredero por merced de Dios. And so now he is not a servant, but a son. But if he is a son, then he is also an heir, through God.⁸En aquel tiempo, cuando no conocíais a Dios, servisteis a los que por su naturaleza no son dioses. But then, certainly, while ignorant of God, you served those who, by nature, are not gods.⁹Mas ahora que habéis conocido a Dios, o mejor, habéis sido conocidos de Dios, ¿cómo los volvéis de nuevo a aquellos débiles y pobres elementos, a que deseáis otra vez servir como antes? But now, since you have known God, or rather, since you have been known by God: how can you turn away again, to weak and destitute influences, which you desire to serve anew?¹⁰Mantenéis la observancia de días, y meses, y tiempos, y años. You serve the days, and months, and times, and years.¹¹Tengo miedo de vosotros, no sea que en vano me haya afanado con vosotros. I am afraid for you, lest perhaps I may have labored in vain among you.¹²Os ruego, hermanos, que os hagáis como yo, pues yo también soy como vosotros. No me habéis hecho ninguna injusticia. Brothers, I beg you. Be as I am. For I, too, am like you. You have not injured me at all.¹³Ya sabéis que cuando os prediqué la primera vez el Evangelio lo hice en enfermedad de la carne; But you know that, in the weakness of the flesh, I have preached the Gospel to you for a long time, and that your trials are in my flesh.¹⁴y lo que en mi carne era para vosotros una prueba, no lo despreciasteis ni lo escupisteis, sino que me recibisteis como a un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús. You did not despise or reject me. But instead, you accepted me like an Angel of God, even like Christ Jesus.¹⁵¿Dónde está ahora vuestro entusiasmo? Porque os doy testimonio de que entonces, de haberos sido posible, os habríais sacado los ojos para dármelos. Therefore, where is your happiness? For I offer to you testimony that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes and would have given them to me.¹⁶¿De modo que me he hecho enemigo vuestro por deciros la verdad? So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?¹⁷Aquellos tienen celo por vosotros, pero no para bien; al contrario, quieren sacaros fuera para que los sigáis a ellos. They are not imitating you well. And they are willing to exclude you, so that you might imitate them.¹⁸Bien está que se tenga celo en lo bueno, pero en todo tiempo, y no solamente mientras estoy presente con vosotros, But be imitators of what is good, always in a good way, and not only when I am present with you.¹⁹hijitos míos, por quienes vuelvo a sufrir dolores de parto, hasta que Cristo sea formado en vosotros. My little sons, I am giving birth to you again, until Christ is formed in you.²⁰Quisiera en esta hora estar presente entre vosotros y cambiar de tono, porque estoy preocupado por vosotros. And I would willingly be present with you, even now. But I would alter my voice: for I am ashamed of you.²¹Decidme, los que deseáis estar bajo ley, ¿no escucháis la Ley? Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?²²Porque escrito está que Abrahán tuvo dos hijos, uno de la esclava y otro de la libre. For it is written that Abraham had two sons: one by a servant woman, and one by a free woman.²³Mas el de la esclava nació según la carne, mientras que el de la libre, por la promesa. And he who was of the servant was born according to the flesh. But he who was of the free woman was born by the promise.²⁴Esto es una alegoría, porque aquellas mujeres son dos testamentos: el uno del monte Sinaí, que engendra para servidumbre, el cual es Agar. These things are said through an allegory. For these represent the two testaments. Certainly the one, on Mount Sinai, gives birth unto servitude, which is Hagar.²⁵El Sinaí es un monte en Arabia y corresponde a la Jerusalén de ahora, porque ella con sus hijos está en esclavitud. For Sinai is a mountain in Arabia, which is related to the Jerusalem of the present time, and it serves with her sons.²⁶Mas la Jerusalén de arriba es libre, y esta es nuestra madre. But that Jerusalem which is above is free; the same is our mother.²⁷Porque escrito está: “Regocíjate, oh estéril, que no das a luz; prorrumpe en júbilo y clama, tú que no conoces los dolores de parto; porque más son los hijos de la abandonada que los de aquella que tiene marido”. For it was written: “Rejoice, O barren one, though you do not conceive. Burst forth and cry out, though you do not give birth. For many are the children of the desolate, even more than of her who has a husband.”²⁸Vosotros, hermanos, sois hijos de la promesa a semejanza de Isaac. Now we, brothers, like Isaac, are sons of the promise.²⁹Mas así como entonces el que nació según la carne perseguía al que nació según el Espíritu, así es también ahora. But just as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.³⁰Pero ¿qué dice la Escritura? “Echa fuera a la esclava y a su hijo, porque no heredará el hijo de la esclava con el hijo de la libre”. And what does Scripture say? “Cast out the woman servant and her son. For the son of a servant women shall not be an heir with the son of a free woman.”³¹Por consiguiente, hermanos, no somos hijos de la esclava, sino de la libre. And so, brothers, we are not the sons of the servant woman, but rather of the free woman. And this is the freedom with which Christ has set us free.
