Génesis 11
1Tenía la tierra entera una misma lengua y las mismas palabras. Now the earth was of one language and of the same speech.2Mas cuando (los hombres) emigrando desde el Oriente hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinear, donde se establecieron, And when they were advancing from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt in it.3se dijeron unos a otros: “Vamos, fabriquemos ladrillos, y cozámoslos bien.” Y les sirvió el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el betún les sirvió de argamasa. And each one said to his neighbor, “Come, let us make bricks, and bake them with fire.” And they had bricks instead of stones, and pitch instead of mortar.4Y dijeron, pues: “Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre, cuya cumbre llegue hasta el cielo; hagámonos un monumento para que no nos dispersemos sobre la superficie de toda la tierra.” And they said: “Come, let us make a city and a tower, so that its height may reach to heaven. And let us make our name famous before we are divided into all the lands.”5Pero Yahvé descendió a ver la ciudad y la torre que estaban construyendo los hijos de los hombres. Then the Lord descended to see the city and the tower, which the sons of Adam were building.6Y dijo Yahvé: “He aquí que son un solo pueblo y tienen todos una misma lengua. ¡Y esto es solo el comienzo de sus obras! Ahora, nada les impedirá realizar sus propósitos. And he said: “Behold, the people are united, and all have one tongue. And since they have begun to do this, they will not desist from their plans, until they have completed their work.7Ea, pues, descendamos, y confundamos allí mismo su lengua, de modo que no entienda uno el habla del otro.” Therefore, come, let us descend, and in that place confound their tongue, so that they may not listen, each one to the voice of his neighbor.”8Así los dispersó Yahvé de allí por la superficie de toda la tierra; y cesaron de edificar la ciudad. And so the Lord divided them from that place into all the lands, and they ceased to build the city.9Por tanto se le dio el nombre de Babel; porque allí confundió Yahvé la lengua de toda la tierra; y de allí los dispersó Yahvé sobre la faz de todo el orbe. And for this reason, its name was called ‘Babel,’ because in that place the language of the whole earth became confused. These are the generations of Shem. And after he conceived Arphaxad, Shem lived for five hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.12Arfaxad tenía treinta y cinco cuando engendró a Sálah. Next, Arphaxad lived for thirty-five years, and then he conceived Shelah.13Y vivió Arfaxad, después de haber engendrado a Sálah, cuatrocientos tres años; y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Shelah, Arphaxad lived for three hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.14Sálah tenía treinta años cuando engendró a Éber. Likewise, Shelah lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Eber.15Y vivió Sálah, después de haber engendrado a Éber, cuatrocientos tres años; y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Eber, Shelah lived for four hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.16Éber tenía treinta y cuatro años cuando engendró a Fáleg. Then Eber lived for thirty-four years, and he conceived Peleg.17Y vivió Éber, después de engendrar a Fáleg, cuatrocientos treinta años; y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Peleg, Eber lived for four hundred and thirty years, and he conceived sons and daughters.18Fáleg tenía treinta años cuando engendró a Reú. Likewise, Peleg lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Reu.19Y vivió Fáleg, después de haber engendrado a Reú, doscientos nueve años; y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Reu, Peleg lived for two hundred and nine years, and he conceived sons and daughters.20Reú tenía treinta y dos años cuando engendró a Sarug. Then Reu lived for thirty-two years, and then he conceived Serug.21Y vivió Reú, después de haber engendrado a Sarug, doscientos siete años; y engendró hijos e hijas. Likewise, after he conceived Serug, Reu lived for two hundred and seven years, and he conceived sons and daughters.22Sarog tenía treinta años cuando engendró a Nacor. In truth, Serug lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Nahor.23Y vivió Sarug, después de haber engendrado a Nacor, doscientos años y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Nahor, Serug lived for two hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.24Nacor tenía veinte y nueve años cuando engendró a Táreh. And so Nahor lived for twenty-nine years, and then he conceived Terah.25Y vivió Nacor, después de haber engendrado a Táreh, ciento diez y nueve años; y engendró hijos e hijas. And after he conceived Terah, Nahor lived for one hundred and nineteen years, and he conceived sons and daughters.26Táreh tenía setenta años cuando engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Aram. And Terah lived for seventy years, and then he conceived Abram, and Nahor, and Haran.27Estos son los descendientes de Táreh. Táreh engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Aram; Aram engendró a Lot. And these are the generations of Terah. Terah conceived Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Next Haran conceived Lot.28Y murió Aram, antes de su padre Táreh, en el país de su nacimiento, en Ur de los caldeos. And Haran died before his father Terah, in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.29Abram y Nacor tomaron para sí mujeres. And so Terah took his son Abram, and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and he led them away from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they approached as far as Haran, and they dwelt there.32Y fueron los días de Táreh doscientos cinco años; y murió Táreh en Harán. And the days of Terah that passed were two hundred and five years, and then he died in Haran.
