Hebreos 12
1Por esto también nosotros, teniendo en derredor nuestro una tan grande nube de testigos, arrojemos toda carga y pecado que nos asedia, y corramos mediante la paciencia la carrera que se nos propone, Furthermore, since we also have so great a cloud of witnesses over us, let us set aside every burden and sin which may surround us, and advance, through patience, to the struggle offered to us.2poniendo los ojos en Jesús, el autor y consumador de la fe, el cual en vez del gozo puesto delante de Él, soportó la cruz, sin hacer caso de la ignominia, y se sentó a la diestra de Dios. Let us gaze upon Jesus, as the Author and the completion of our faith, who, having joy laid out before him, endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and who now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.3Considerad, pues, a Aquel que soportó la contradicción de los pecadores contra sí mismo, a fin de que no desmayéis ni caigáis de ánimo. So then, meditate upon him who endured such adversity from sinners against himself, so that you may not become weary, failing in your souls.4Aún no habéis resistido hasta la sangre, luchando contra el pecado, For you have not yet resisted unto blood, while striving against sin.5y os habéis olvidado de la consolación que a vosotros como a hijos se dirige: “Hijo mío, no tengas en poco la corrección del Señor, ni caigas de ánimo cuando eres reprendido por Él; And you have forgotten the consolation which speaks to you like sons, saying: “My son, do not be willing to neglect the discipline of the Lord. Neither should you become weary, while being rebuked by him.”6porque el Señor corrige a quien ama, y a todo el que recibe por hijo, le azota”. For whomever the Lord loves, he chastises. And every son whom he accepts, he scourges.7Soportad, pues, la corrección. Dios os trata como a hijos. ¿Hay hijo a quien su padre no corrija? Persevere in discipline. God presents you to himself as sons. But what son is there, whom his father does not correct?8Si quedáis fuera de la corrección, de la cual han participado todos, en realidad sois bastardos y no hijos. But if you are without that discipline in which all have become sharers, then you are of adultery, and you are not sons.9Más aún, nosotros hemos tenido nuestros padres según la carne que nos corregían, y los respetábamos. ¿No nos hemos de someter mucho más al Padre de los espíritus, para vivir? Then, too, we have certainly had the fathers of our flesh as instructors, and we reverenced them. Should we not obey the Father of spirits all the more, and so live?10Y a la verdad, aquellos castigaban para unos pocos días, según su arbitrio, mas Este lo hace en nuestro provecho, para que participemos de su santidad. And indeed, for a few days and according to their own wishes, they instructed us. But he does so to our benefit, so that we may receive his sanctification.11Ninguna corrección parece por el momento cosa de gozo, sino de tristeza; pero más tarde da a los ejercitados por ella el apacible fruto de justicia. Now every discipline, in the present time, does not seem a gladness, of course, but a grief. But afterwards, it will repay a most peaceful fruit of justice to those who become trained in it.12Por lo cual “enderezad las manos caídas y las rodillas flojas, Because of this, lift up your lazy hands and your lax knees,13y haced derechas las sendas para vuestros pies”, a fin de que no se descamine lo que es cojo, antes bien sea sanado. and straighten the path of your feet, so that no one, being lame, may wander astray, but instead may be healed.14Procurad tener paz con todos y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor. Pursue peace with everyone. Pursue sanctity, without which no one shall see God.15Atended a que ninguno quede privado de la gracia de Dios; que no brote ninguna raíz de amargura, no sea que cause perturbación y sean por ella inficionados los muchos; Be contemplative, lest anyone lack the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness spring up and impede you, and by it, many might be defiled,16que no haya ningún fornicario o profanador, como Esaú, el que por una comida vendió su primogenitura. lest any fornicator or worldly person be like Esau, who, for the sake of one meal, sold his birthright.17Pues ya sabéis que aun cuando después deseaba heredar la bendición, fue desechado y no pudo cambiar los sentimientos (de su padre), por más que lo solicitase con lágrimas. For you know that afterwards, when he desired to inherit the benediction, he was rejected. For he found no place for repentance, even though he had sought it with tears.18Porque no os habéis acercado a monte palpable, fuego encendido, nube, tinieblas, tempestad, But you have not drawn near to a tangible mountain, or a burning fire, or a whirlwind, or a mist, or a storm,19sonido de trompeta y voz de palabras, respecto de la cual los que la oyeron pidieron que no se les hablase más; or the sound of a trumpet, or a voice of words. Those who had experienced these things excused themselves, lest the Word be spoken to them.20porque no podían soportar lo mandado: “Aun una bestia que tocare el monte será apedreada”. For they could not bear what was said, and so, if even a beast would have touched the mountain, it would have been stoned.21Y era tan espantoso lo que se veía, que Moisés dijo: “Estoy aterrado y temblando”. And what was seen was so terrible that even Moses said: “I am terrified, and so, I tremble.”22Vosotros, empero, os habéis acercado al monte Sión, ciudad del Dios vivo, Jerusalén celestial, miríadas de ángeles, asamblea general, But you have drawn near to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of Angels,23e Iglesia de primogénitos, inscritos en el cielo, a Dios, Juez de todos, a espíritus de justos ya perfectos, and to the Church of the first-born, those who have been inscribed in the heavens, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect,24a Jesús, Mediador de nueva Alianza, y a sangre de aspersión, que habla mejor que la de Abel. and to Jesus, the Mediator of the New Testament, and to a sprinkling of blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.25Mirad que no recuséis al que habla: si aquellos que recusaron al que sobre la tierra promulgaba la revelación no pudieron escapar (al castigo), mucho menos nosotros, si rechazamos a Aquel que nos habla desde el cielo: Be careful not to reject the One who is speaking. For if those who rejected him who was speaking upon the earth were not able to escape, so much more we who might turn away from the One who is speaking to us from heaven.26cuya voz entonces sacudió la tierra y ahora nos hace esta promesa: “Una vez todavía sacudiré no solamente la tierra, sino también el cielo”. Then, his voice moved the earth. But now, he makes a promise, saying: “There is still one more time, and then I will move, not only the earth, but also heaven itself.”27Eso de “una vez todavía” indica que las cosas sacudidas van a ser cambiadas, como que son creaturas, a fin de que permanezcan las no conmovibles. And so, in saying, “There is still one more time,” he declares the transfer of the moveable things of creation, so that those things which are immoveable may remain.28Por eso, aceptando el reino inconmovible, tengamos gratitud por la cual tributemos a Dios culto agradable con reverencia y temor. Thus, in receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace. So, through grace, let us be of service, by pleasing God with fear and reverence.29Porque nuestro Dios es fuego devorador. For our God is a consuming fire.
